Title: Did you change the editing?
Marlene - March 7, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
Sorry if I am annoying but I am so annoyed you see.
I am someone who types and posts although I mostly try to do a spellcheck but sometimes after I post I see I have made typos so I go and change that.
When I do, I never enable the editing button.
I do use the editing button, show i have edited if for instance i wrote something and then had some more to say.
Now even if you don't enable the edit post you still get the Marlene has edit this post (which means 1/4th of my posts have that now)
Can we please go back to how it used to be?
aargh I noticed an [/ guess this will be another marlene has edited post.

Huh the whole edit button is gone?
the thingy where you can show you
did edit.

That's weird cos I don't think I get that and I edit all the time, because I make loads of typos!!!
I'm going to test this now.
Okay just edited
eta Yep, it must do it on all now!

I don't know, Marlene - too techy a question for me - that'll probably have to wait until Cherie gets here for an answer! ;)

Ummm.... yeah, after a recent conversation where it was suggested that someone edited something they said after the fact, I thought it best to turn this on so these kind of things could easily be disproved. I didn't realize so many people would be upset about it because in most forums, the option to turn it on or off isn't really an option for people to begin with.
I guess I'll go disable it for now anyway. I'd meant to bring it up to the rest of the mods this morning because I thought it'd actually be better for certain circumstances, but nevermind....

I'm not bothered by it at all - clearly, as I didn't notice it was on!!

Perhaps I just don't notice them all

I noticed it too..but I thought I was just .
I just have to remember to uncheck it now. I don't like the "edited by" line in all my posts for some reason.
And I don't really think the "edit by" thing is going to do anything anyway...'cause you have the ability to just delete the entire post anyway.

test.
Well it is handy when you use the ETA.
and Kel you do not have to uncheck it.
It is automatically unchecked babe

EllyMae58 - March 7, 2008 11:15 PM (GMT)
No, you silly Dutch woman! :whip:
I meant when Cherie changed it the first time to automatically default to show the "edit by" line, I had to always UNcheck it. Now that she's changed it back (where it's automatically unchecked), I don't have to do that anymore.
Xeyra - March 8, 2008 09:04 AM (GMT)
Thanks for this Cherie. I do understand what may have prompted you to turn this thing on as the default, but, really, it's annoying as heck and doesn't really help. For one, like Marlene pointed out, typos are a common thing, as is adding something to a post so you don't have three or four consecutive posts where you're yapping away, so the whole 'edited by' thingie would be spread like the plague across the board.
But it also just serves to give things an air of... controllability... you know... of 'Ahah! you were lying, you cheat, we see that you edited your post, bwahaha! Strike one!'... only less funny.
We're people of habits. We've gotten used to the forum being one way and some things feel a bit like going to your house after work to find the furniture completely changed around or the plates in your kitchen in the cabinet where you kept your glasses. And that can be a bit annoying, don't you think? :)

OMG. This is so hilarious.

I can't help myself but I am sitting here like an idiot with a big grin on my face.
Good explanation Xeyra. :)
