Title: Oscar nominations are out!
HoserLauren - January 23, 2007 11:00 PM (GMT)
For those of you who are movie fans, I thought you'd like to see the nominations if you haven't already:
http://www.oscar.com/nominees/?pn=listSome notes from moi.
Has anyone else seen The Departed? Why nominate Mark Wahlburg but not any of the other guys? DeCaprio and Damon had much better roles and played them much better (even Nicholson!) so why was Wahlburg added? It was like they couldn't find anyone else to nominate in the supporting category so they just stuck his name in there.
I wached The Queen on the weekend and I was very surprised by how good it was!! Helen Mirren was outstanding in it and should be given the Oscar. Between The Departed and The Queen (the only 2 best picture movies I've seen) I would pick The Queen just because overall it was more impressive as a film in all aspects (costume, sound, etc).
Anyone have any thoughts on what will win best picture?

I think Mark Wahlburg is a much better actor than he ever was a singer. I haven't seen the movie though. ;) Maybe they didn't nominate Leonardo DiCaprio because he's nominated for Lead Actor in Blood Diamond.
I've not seen any of the movies nominated for Best Movie. :(

And he wasn't a very good singer!!
I don't really like Wahlburg OR DiCaprio.

I think its funny Dreamgirls is up 3 times for Best Song....
I haven't been keeping up on movies lately at all....

I'm happy that Kate Winslet has been nominated, but with Helen Mirren nominated for The Queen, it's highly unlikely Kate will win, but I can still hope!
I haven't seen any of the best picture nominees. Heck, I don't really watch that many movies anymore.
But I do very much want to see Pan's Labyrinth (which got nominated for quite a few categories), but it's not playing anywhere around here.
EllyMae58 - January 24, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
I love Mark Wahlberg! In fact, I'm watching Invincible right now.
Oh, Jennifer Hudson got a nom. Wow. American Idol makes good. So glad it wasn't Beyonce. That girl is sooo overrated.
Meryl Streep doesn't need another one, that's for sure. And if Penelope Cruz wins, I'll eat my shoe. Can't stand that woman.
Go Jackie Earle Haley! You guys remember him from The Bad News Bears??????
No Johnny Depp? Okay, I guess I have to boycott this year's show. LOL

I've heard that movie is supposed to be fantastic.
I think I might download it.
Don't tell anyone ;)

I saw Volver during the holidays and although I knew that Penelope Cruz was an awesome actress, I think she should win just because of that performance! The female cast of Volver won the best actress at Canes, so I guess that's an indicator. I know Helen Mirren is supposed to be fabulous in The Queen, but her performance is supposedly cold ish whereas Penelope Cruz plays with her heart.
I haven't kept up with movies lately, but I still have my preferences :D I know Canada's there with Water, so maybe something will come to us :)

I loved that movie too. And everyone was wonderful in it...
But Abigail Breslin for best supporting actress?

But why nominate DiCaprio for Blood Diamond but not The Departed? Like it or not, the Oscar is a commercial award and hype is important. I wonder if this will reduce Di Caprio's chance of winning. Maybe it's a conspiracy so that Forrest Whitaker will win! Not that anyone does not think he will win already...

True, I actually liked her better in "Signs."

The movies I like very rarely get nominated for an Oscar. I think the last ones that were was the Lord of the Rings movies. I haven't seen any of the ones nominated this year except Pirates.
Antheras - January 24, 2007 05:50 PM (GMT)
I was so happy Water got nominated for best foreign film, although I believe it should have got a best picture nomination. It was incredibly, especially when you know that the young actress in the lead was unable to speak the language and had to learn the script phonetically.

You and Meg
Wahlburg your right, he does make a good actor than singer. Of course my dh liked him in Four Brothers. And Meg and I saw him in another movie but it was an artsy movie. He was good in that one too.
Now his brother ah not too sure about him
cheesygiraffe - January 24, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
Donnie Wahlberg.

He was one of the New Kids of the Block. That boy has no talent at all.
I liked Mark Wahlberg in
Boogie Nights.
HoserLauren - January 25, 2007 04:07 AM (GMT)
Isn't there another Wahlburg brother that hosts Antiques Roadshow in the USA?
