Title: I need some advice
Description: bookcrossing

SciFisstrs - March 6, 2008 12:56 AM (GMT)
I know this topic was covered before at some time. But I don't remember when. Anyways I did a trade with someone on bookcrossing. She sent a book to me from my wishlist and I did send her the book she wanted. But she didn't receive it yet. It's been about a month now. She did pm me about it and I told her when I sent it and also told her it was a hardback.

She does live in an apt building too. So it could of been picked up by someone else. Maybe it didn't fit in her mailbox  I sent it the same time as I sent Cherie's book and Cherie got hers.

My question is now what do I do? I don't want to piss off this woman because she does seem nice.

Thanks for the help :)

First, I would wait another couple of weeks because you never know.

Then I would probably offer her something else off my shelf

:ditto:

Sometimes media mail does take more than a month so I'd probably wait at least 4-5 weeks, and then do exactly as Ace suggested.

PS - Even though it was sent the same day as the one you sent me, that book probably hopped a different truck at some point and went in a different direction, and may be getting the "low priority" that media mail is supposed to get.

Media mail can tend to take a bit longer so I agree with Ace & Cherie. Give it a few more weeks and then offer to send something else. It's not your fault, but it's a nice gesture and shows you genuinely care.

What book is it? Maybe one of us can send it to her.

I got a book the other day sent by a BookMooch member over a month ago. I had started to worry, but it finally made it.

I always use Delivery confirmation these days, because I have had a couple books go missing. It only costs 18 cents extra postage when I print it through PBS (plus the 27cents that PBS gets, but I consider that my support of the site) so for me it is worth it. I just feel like packages with DC on them get a little better care taken since they do have to be scanned.

But if it does not arrive, I would probably offer her something else, or like LJ said, let us know what it was and maybe one of us will have another copy.

It is an odd book. I picked it up at our library book sale. I never thought anyone would ask for it. I was thinking of wild releasing. The book is called: Smoking Mirror: An Encounter with Paul Gauguin (Art Encounters) by Douglas Rees

You are right Cherie it might of went out differently. But I didn't think that way. Since it was going to NY I just thought it wouldn't be that far.

Thanks for the help everyone

Hope it will arrive soon cause it sucks not knowing and especially that it is a hardback.
Did the prices also go up for sending in the USA?

It once took almost a month for a book that Cory sent me to get to me.

Thing is, we live about five or six miles apart, even with being in different cities.

Media mail can be unpredictable in delivery time At the same time as that, I had a book get to California overnight...

Not by much Marlene

I understand nimrodiel It's strange how that works out though
The woman pmed me again and told me that sometimes she gets books that are shoved in her mailbox and envelope rips etc. So I'm going to write her back and tell her to give it another couple of weeks being that is media mail. And if she hasn't gotten it by than I'll offer up something that she might want also.

Just wanted to let you all know that I found the book. The book got sent back to me. It had stickers on it that said unclaimed. I have the right address on it too. I guess with the lady saying that if it doesn't fit in her mailbox that the postman leaves a slip, she probably overlooked the slip. Matt told me just to leave the book in envelope and put it in another with address on it. So she sees that I did send it to her.

Boy what a job for just a book

That's a pain, but at least you know where it is now.

Poor Sci  Aren't you glad it isn't international mail?

Gothamgal - March 13, 2008 07:45 PM (GMT)
Glad to know it didn't disappear, but that is weird. Sometimes I wonder if we could just put a tracker on a media mail package and see where exactly it goes, LOL.

Oh yeah much better than international. I don't think I would be in too much hurry to get it out. Now if it was someone here, my extended family, that would be different :)

You know all, that I don't usually get on computer till later in the afternoon. Well, I put the book in another envelope last night, put the address on it and had it ready to mail today. The first thing this morning I get up, dressed and out the door with the book in hand and mailed it with delivery confirmation.

Don't you know after my running around I did today I get on the computer and find that the lady sent me a urgent message. She said since I'm having trouble with getting book to her home to send it to her work and gave me address for there.

Argh! :bash: :bash: :bash:
