Title: Links...
Description: Is there something new I have to do?

geishabird - January 23, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
I've made clickable links a zillion times but earlier today when I tried to set one up in a forum post it didn't seem to work...I used the same formatting I always use: pointy bracket a href="url goes in here"pointy bracket name of link here pointy bracket /a pointy bracket

pointy bracket of course being < or > as needed...

I'm sure that's all I did for the links in my signature and they're fine...

 Feeling very foolish, thanks for any help...

have you made clickable links like that within this forum other than within the sigs? I can't remember if I have it turned on for HTML coding within the forum, but I can check. If you did it in one section of the forum, but not another, please let me know which section it didn't work it so that I can try to adjust the settings.

Thanks!

ETA: I keep forgetting to tell you that I love your avatar Geisha.

I was trying to make one in the International Reverse Wishlist relay, Old-School Relay forum, to the book I was offering but I just got the string of code instead of the proper link.

I don't believe I've tried to make another link in any section of this forum before...

Hope this is helpful.

ETA: Thanks; me too!

I'll see what I can find out. :)

In the meantime, you can always use this code here:

CODE

cool... that code is the code typically used in forums... you were trying HTML which a lot of forums don't allow, but I think I may be able to turn an option on.

There is an tag called doHTML (which I've used before) that'll allow you to post HTML in this forum. It was currently only turned on for Admins and Mods, but I've just enabled it for Members as well.

Unfortunately, it's not something that's documented in the BBCode Help screen so you have to specifically know about it to be able to use it. But in most cases, you can just use regular BBCode in place of HTML so I don't see many people having to use it anyway, except maybe if they're taking a whole chunk of some other web page code and wanting to paste it here (which is similar to the situation I had when I used it).

The syntax is simply
CODE

[doHTML]<a href="http://bunnies.sexygeekchick.com">Cherie's bunnies</a>[/doHTML]

As you can see, the above link was done using standard HTML. But most users should instead just use the forums standard URL tags in this case as Sand posted above. I gave the above example simply to demonstrate how you'd enclose your HTML within the doHTML tags. :)

So standards HTML links should work now?

That would be awesome...as I can never remember to use the special forum tags as opposed to HTML tags when I want to do code or formatting here.

So long as you enclose it in the [ doHTML ] tags, it'll work fine, otherwise nope it won't.
