So I watched the trailer for Mike Meyer's new movie...
Watch it here!

And I'm sooooooo annoyed that he's coming to "America" to help the "Toronto Maple Leafs"!!!!!!!

Argh! And they even use a cheesy-Quebec-stereotype! And still call it America!

:o You used my name in vain. :giggle:
That doesn't make sense to me that he'd come here to help Toronto.

Well, if Mike Meyers is in America, that is clearly a help to Toronto... he's not there... lucky you. :giggle:

Maybe they're using another stereotype:

My family in Greece refers to all of North America as America, and when they talk about their cousins in Canada they say "My cousins in America". I've heard the same thing in Italy, as well. It seems to be common in non-English speaking countries to do that, so maybe?

Yeppers. In my Spanish Class, the prof was saying if a Latin-speakin person(ie Spanish and Portoguese) lives somewhere in Central or South America, they consider themselves Americans as well as whatever country they live in. That is also why the name "America" (as in the girl from Ugly Betty) is a super popular name in Central and South America.
