Title: Adventures in Wild Releasing
Description: tips, JE's, success stories here....

ladyjanet - January 23, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
Trying to live up to my New Years Resolution, I wild released 30 books this morning.

Let's see if any JE's come in. I know there's a couple BXers here on campus.

Post your adventures in Wild Releasing here, especially when those JE's start flooding in. ;)

dancing-dog - January 23, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
Haven't had any great success lately but in the past have had good success releasing at:

gas stations
children's books in the park
coffee places (like Starbuck's)

nimrodiel - January 23, 2007 06:33 PM (GMT)
I'm up to 67 books journaled out of 406 books released.

I keep a book in my bag for releasing, and try to release one a week if I can (sometimes I forget). I leave books lots of places, sometimes where you don't think a book would be in a safe spot for releasing.

Some of my reoccuring catches have come from:

* books left in the window of a free paper box outside the "EL" station a few blocks away.
*Books left propped up in hallway the bathrooms are located in at a local eatery.
*books left propped up on the baby changing stations at the local movie theater
* Books left on the leave a book take a book shelf at a coffeehouse near the library branch close to me.
*Books left scattered around the Lincoln Park Zoo (a bunch of which were taken and put in staff break rooms until they got caught).

I have terrible luck with catches. I've got two wild release catches! I've only released 40 books. I'm determined to release more books this year. I appreciate any tips on where to release.

I just got my second one, though. I released it 3 and a half years ago! And she joined! Yay!

The Night Listener

Actually, I went hunting for it after I got the release alert, but this is the first wild one I've come across in 4 years, so was really chuffed!

The Flamboya Tree

Looks like a good book as well!

Got a entry on a book I released a couple weeks ago at the vet's office.

The Conquest

JessicaEby - March 14, 2007 02:21 AM (GMT)
One of my weekend-away releases got caught before I made it to the internet terminal to make release notes! As a result, I waited until I got home and edited the journal entry.

I hope this person likes it, but it's Shakespeare and the finder doesn't seem to speak that much English....

As You Like It--- caught in Montreal!

I have a wild release question-- do people count OBCZ/meet-ups as wild releases?

I do. Even if the other BCers don't take them, I leave them at the OBCZ for other people to pick up. Our local OBCZ and meet up place is a deli. If our books seem not to be movie, we try to refresh the shelf by taking older stuff and wild releasing it again.

Oh no... I lied! Well, not really, the statement just isn't true anymore-- another one from my Montreal trip got journalled! :D I like Montreal... people seem to pick up books there, lol

The Little Mermaid-- caught in Montreal!

Yes, mostly.

Books I leave at an OBCZ, yes, that's a wild release for me (and disappointingly few, by which I mean NONE so far, have been journalled). :angry2:

Books I take to a meet-up (er, Gathering, er, ABC) I register as wild releases if, like Casey said, I plan to leave it there if nobody takes it. I think it makes a nice incentive for people who live here to get the release notes in their email reminding them about the meeting.

Sometimes, though, I think, "If nobody takes this one, I'll bring it back home and put it in the VBB" (or something similar). In that case I don't call it a wild-release, and I don't make release notes for it.

I got 2 new catches this morning, but my finder(s) doesn't seem to like the books :(

One of the 32 books I set free in the world for world space week last October finally called home!

http://bookcrossing.com/journal/3950471

It's funny because I saw like 3 books get picked up (as they were set down on the chairs of various trains I was traveling on to get around the city that week) but no one has journaled any of them until now.

But this once again proves that sometimes it takes awhile for the book to check in. I have a feeling this might have ended up in the cafe's bookshelf for a short amount of time after I dropped it off in the entrance vestibule.
