Title: I spilled ICED TEA on Smith!!!!
Description: Smith = my laptop
SimplyCee - February 27, 2008 01:47 PM (GMT)
 Last night, I spilled iced tea on my poor dear Smith and I am now terrified about what will become of him. I placed a frantic phone call to a friend of mine and she did some research and we believe there's a problem with the screen inverter and that it may need to be replaced. I miss him so much already. And I cannot afford a new one right now :(
I just needed to get that out. I'll add more detail about what happened later in case someone can help me here?

I'm sorry too, Cee. I hope you can get Smith fixed soon.
I can't help but wondering after reading this though if I was supposed to name my laptop. Would it play nicer if I did? Or is it too late after 4 years? How does one determine if it's male or female?
:giggle:

I always name my computers. And they've had Disney names. My desktop that I adored that I got when I was... 16? That was Beauty, a girl. My laptop from the pawn shop that I got for college and never really clicked with was Flounder, a boy. Then I got this laptop and he's really Captain John Smith. But I call him Smith for short. LOL I know, it's weird.

I've never named my computers, but the yearbook staff in high school had a BobbaFett and ??? I guess I don't remember the other one. I was the photographer. We didn't use computers. Good old darkroom for us!
So sorry to hear about your computer :(

My computer doesn't have a name yet, but my iPod is Mr. Darcy.
Get well soon, Smith! :flower:

If your tea had suar in it, it's probably toast. If not, try opening it up, turning it over upside down and letting it dry.
I got Dew in a keyboard once.... no saving it!

Whee! Someone else who names their computers! :bananahop: In my case, it's kinda necessary because I have a computer network, but even if we didn't, here at home, we're still used to referring to our computers by their name, just like any other person in the house.
My current laptop is named AURA, my old laptop was MYSTIQUE. My server is MERLIN, my desktop is KUNDALINI, and Mike's laptop is BIGFOOT. :tada:
BTW, I was going to recommend the same thing Janet did about turning it upside down and leaving it overnight to drain. But as she said, the sugar could cause problems. Sowwie! :erm:

I spilled cream soda all over my keyboard of my laptop once. I was worried that it would get below the keyboard so I immediately took apart the computer and blotted up the liquid with a paper towel. Lucky for me there was no damage!

Actually Lauren's answer reminded me, that yeah, if you can get your keyboard up, then definitely do that. I know many people are afraid to take their laptop apart, though we've done it with both this and my older laptop. So if you know how to do it, that'd definitely help, though it might involve removing some wires and such too.

Luckily, the computer works fine. I mean, the keyboard and such. I turned it upside down and took the battery out. The problem does seem to just be with the screen. It's really, really dim and I can barely see it.
However, the only results I found for a screen inverter were on eBay. And while I'm a YAY eBay type of person with some things, I don't know if I want to trust Smith's future to it. Any suggestions on where to go?
ETA: Smith is a HP Pavilion ze2000.

I bought a refurbished keyboard for my laptop off eBay when I dropped a textbook on the old one and I was happy with what I got.
As long as you are sure you are getting a part that fits your model, I don't think you can make the computer any worse off than it is now.

All my computers are named FRED - F'ing Ridiculous Electronic Device.......
Hope you can get Smith fixed up soon, Cee!!

Cee, you totally have my sympathies...last night I finally installed my new hard drive after 2 weeks of being computer-less at home. I was very, very worried but everything seems to be working ok now...good luck with your screen.
I haven't named mine either...although I often refer to it as "my baby." Perhaps after my recent experience I should name it Minnie? (as in Minnie Driver... :P )

Being on a network I can relate to the name of computers. So the one I use for my regular work has my name. But I am also processing payments so weh have an actual center set up. So I'm B008 I like to think of it as BOO.

I would think of it as boob :giggle:

 hmm yes that could be thought that way....only I didn't want to mention that to the computer guy when he was naming my computer, so I could access the center where I sit.
