Lexilewords, start us off! Who would you like to reveal?
elsi - February 16, 2008 07:29 AM (GMT)
Depending on how fast play moves things along, you may have to bump me down. I'm flying from London to Chicago to Dallas today. Plane leaves London at noon, which is 6am Central time. I don't hit the ground in Dallas before 7:30 pm and then it's at least an hour before I get home -- longer if I have to get some dinner. I hope to be online for a short while in Chicago, but it will depend on whether I have enough time between flights. I'm sending out my reveal right now.
giz-angel - February 16, 2008 09:12 AM (GMT)
I will be in later - by 6pm my time I think
Xeyra - February 16, 2008 12:44 PM (GMT)
I'm last!
ETA: Sent my reveal to shaunie, giz-angel, GateGypsy and Lexilewords.
My book choice isn't on many people's bookshelves. In fact, most of the copies of my book choice that do exist on BC were given away by one particular person! LOL. Does that make you curious?
wss4 - February 16, 2008 01:15 PM (GMT)
Love the artwork Shanesay, as usual. Even though I am sitting out this swap I had to come check it out.
Have fun girls. As soon as I get caught up on my owed TBR's (or relatively close) I will be back!
PepperVL - February 16, 2008 01:53 PM (GMT)
Okay, my reveal has been sent out.
I won't be around much today... I work at Target and then I'm going out with the family. I'll check in one more time before I leave for Target and then between work and going out.

I was wondering why you weren't on the list, but I totally understand! After the news I got this week, that's why I cut myself way down on VBB boxes as well, only keeping my top two genres and I've skipped in paranormal the last couple times anyway. I'm hoping that will also help me to get a little more caught up in reading, if I'm not tempted to take more books by having a turn. I can't stop swapping though, and I'd pretty much already cut down in those to only my absolute favorite genres as well, I hope that will be fine through this scary period, and hubby is very understanding, and didn't see a need for me to quit any of it unless I wanted to, so it should be okay.
Sorry to babble on ya'll, but it's been the week from hell and then some... going back and forth between okay (if you can call numb okay) and falling apart. but even the people who were offered staying jobs are very upset too, because we had become a pretty tight team and they've come in and obliterated that, so no one feels any kind of stability any more. :(
Yay corporate america... :angry2:

I'm here! I completely forgot today was start day! Anyhow! I'd like to see what you have Swap-Hostess Lady Shawne!

It's the weekend and there's a SFF swap :yahoo:
PepperVL - February 16, 2008 03:43 PM (GMT)
Am off to work at Target. :(
I'll be home briefly around 7:30, and I'll peek in then, and then I'll be out for the night.
I don't think my turn will come up, though.
Xeyra - February 16, 2008 03:59 PM (GMT)
Darn. Just when lexie appears, shaunie disappears.
GateGypsy - February 16, 2008 06:04 PM (GMT)
Just checking in! I'm looking forward to seeing what gets offered up here!
Yesterday I went to the post office to send of all the books that have been won in swaps and some RABCKs, and the girl at the counter always asks me about what books I'm sending out and which ones I liked best  So this time she says, "You don't read a lot of fantasy, do you?" to which I relplied: "Not yet, though I'd like to -- I just don't know where to start." So she gave me a list of names (she actually wrote them all down for me!) She highly recommended Charles De Lint (which rings a bell, though I don't think I've read him, but I may have oogled his books a time or two), and Anne Bishop. There was one other book she mentioned, which she absolutely loved (and said is available at the local Library, except not right now 'cause she has it  ) called Magicians of Quality by Patricia Wrede and... someone Stevermev ? So I figured I'd ask those in this swap who may consider themselves experts :D What do you think of the aforementioned authors? Are they ok for this swap, or are they so heavily read they'd be swap killers? Have you read the Magicians of Quality book? Does anyone know the second author's name?
ETA: is there a reveals thread? I can't find it.
shaunesay - February 16, 2008 06:06 PM (GMT)
I'm back from seeing the vampires! Got my 1 gallon donated blood charm today! I didn't even know I'd done that much!
I'll be right back with my reveal!
shaunesay - February 16, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
The Autumn Castle - Kim Wilkins (TBR)Christine Starlight lives in an artist's collective in Berlin with her lover, Jude, and their companions. She is haunted by two memories from childhood: the gruesome death of her parents and the abduction of her best friend, May. May, it turns out, was not abducted, but was lost by her mother in a bargain with a faery; in the enchanted world May now calls home--and which now calls her Mayfridh--she is the queen. Circumstances bring the two worlds together, and when Mayfridh crosses over and reunites with Christine, she also falls in love with Jude. Jude, though, carries with him a whopper of a secret, which Wilkins manages to conceal nicely. Meanwhile, Mandy Z., a madman who has hated faeries since childhood and who happens to own the building in which Christine and Jude live, is hard at work on a "Bone Wife," made from the bones of the faeries he has murdered.

ETA: is there a reveals thread? I can't find it. |
Charles De Lint is pretty well known, I haven't read any of his yet, though I've got many (hubby likes him I think) Anne Bishop is a favorite of mine, the dark jewels series especially, I'm partway through her witch trilogy, I have one more to go, and I like it though not as well as the others. I haven't read any Patricia Wrede yet, so can't offer an opinion on that, but I know a lot of people like her. :) I think Charles De Lint would be a fine swap choice, Anne Bishop might be, her dark jewels series was popular around here for a bit, so I'm not sure about that, but we also have a lot of different people playing than back then, so it might be just fine. I would not necessarily call any of those three authors a swap killer at this point. :)
There is a reveals thread, I just posted to it! ;) It's also linked on the game board under the color index, above the moves.

Poor Shauney - it's a horrible feeling being made redundant (as we call it) S - it makes one feel all vulnerable and unloved. But good things can come out of it.... and I hope they do for you sweetie

Thanks Giz, you guys are one of the things that will help me get through it! Onwards and upwards, right? ;) I'll be okay, I ran some money figures the other night and while I can't afford not to work, we should be okay for a bit. Hopefully I can just find something else once this one is for certain over! The emotional part is the worst though, having to keep going back, knowing all of this, you know?

Oh yeah totally - I've been in the staying team and the going team. Both suck. It's like reverting to school and being the last one to be picked AND like not having the right number of layers of skin :( but it will calm down Shauney - us humans are good at adapting :)

yep, I'm glad to be able to do it! I wanted to so badly right after 9/11 when they were making a big push on it, because I wanted to do SOMETHING, however small, and I wasn't able to at that point because my Blood Pressure was too high. I've since been put on meds for that and now I can donate, so I have been ever since! I just felt so crushed back then when I couldn't, like such a failure! Poor hubby can't because of his military work, and where he was stationed, etc.
I just thought it was really funny (and this is silly so bear with me) that my blood type was B+, because I'm pretty much known for being a super worrier about everything, it was like a weird little message from my own body to think positive! LMAO!

shaunesay - February 16, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
Silver May Tarnish - Andre Norton and Lyn McConchiefrom booklist:
Lorcan, former heir to Erendale, must make a new life for himself after the wars with Alizon. While traveling, he falls into the hands of bandits, from whom he is rescued by Meive, a beekeeper and lady of power, who has lost her own kin. They work together to rebuild Meive's dale, aiming to create a haven for those who have lost land or kin and are willing to work for the common good. In this well-crafted fantasy set in the late Norton's Witch World, she and McConchie, her collaborator on two previous Witch World novels, have produced a seamless page-turner. Although the basic setting is familiar after more than 40 years' worth of Witch World stories, the book's quite convincing picture of a land without rulers or laws in the wake of disaster is more than a little timely.

Hey there! I'm back from going to my cellphone company's technical assistance because my cellphone's battery hasn't been able to apparently survive more than 48 hours for the past few days. Of course they couldn't do anything, it had to go to the brand's technical assistance (Nokia) and thus I had to leave my new (2 months) cellphone with them for 2-3 weeks. I did get a replacement cellphone but it doesn't compare. Sigh. And I thought Nokia products were supposed to be the good ones and yet their batteries die after two months??
On a more related note, thanks for revealing for me, shaunie. I can't see the cover image in the reveal, though, only the words 'user posted image'. Am I the only one?

Hello all -- I'm sitting in the Admiral's Club in Chicago -- awaiting the departure of my **delayed** flight home to Dallas. Normally I wouldn't mind much, but I've been up since 7am GMT (1am Chicago-Dallas time) and just got off of an extremely crowded airplane! I'm enjoying the spaciousness around me, but I'd like to get this trip over and get HOME!
I'll be online for the next hour or so -- will leave one move in my signature which should be used if you can. If it doesn't work, I'll be back online around 10pm CST.

If it doesn't work, I'll be back online around 10pm CST. |
no worries Elsi, safe flight!
ETA: I'm heading out for dinner with my Momma, see ya'll later!
