I think January is even worse :D

I have all that Christmas money to be spent on books and would end up with doubles

However that is why December is also a problem....my family are in the UK so they usually send everything early...

Lemonitsa - February 9, 2008 01:27 AM (GMT)
Confirming and pm'ing you in a minute!

:bounce:

peachy93722 - February 9, 2008 05:32 AM (GMT)
IF you want Stellary I can cover your month for you.

stellarv - February 9, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
I got your addresses, thanks, girls. There are still some missing, but we have plenty of time 'till April.

Peachy, thanks for offering. I'll surely need when March comes... ;)

I'd normally be sad to be the last on the exchange, but in fact I am really happy. Without taking any incorrect action, I got my birthday month!!! I'm really excited! :bananadance:

You girls have been really supportive. I guess we will have lots of fun!

GateGypsy - February 10, 2008 05:32 AM (GMT)
I've PMed you with my address, so this is my confirmation that I've read the thread. I'm just fine with October, but I'll be extra-special kind and offer to trade months with Amberkatze, if she'd like. Nobody buys books for me for Christmas. My Dad is all about kitchen appliances, my fiancé thinks it's too stressful to choose books for me (I apparently take them very seriously), and my mother and older sisters travel in their own book circles and never bother to look at my wishlist, so I end up with what they think I'd like (which is usually pretty accurate!) So, if you want to trade, Amber, I'm ok with it! Let Stellarv and me know.

bemaia - February 10, 2008 06:25 AM (GMT)
That is perfect! i'm in! :D

nikel27 - February 11, 2008 07:35 AM (GMT)
Checking in and confirming!

I did sent you my address right now.

I love my month very much, I was afraid I will get May, when I am on vacation.

take care Nicolé aka nikel27 :bananadance:

Could we compile a list in one place of everyone's wishlists and preferences?

I'll volunteer to put it together and send it out if everyone sends me (my examples included to give an idea of what I'm thinking of):

1. Link/location for your wishlist
QUOTE
msjoanna's Cliff's wishlist is probably easiest; you can also find me at Goodreads where I have a wishlist that should be pretty much the same as the Cliff's list

2. Description of book likes/dislikes
QUOTE
I read mostly non-genre literature/fiction and nonfiction.  Snobby award winning books (e.g., Booker Prize, Pulitzer Prize, Orange Prize, etc.) are likely to go over well.  I have a particular soft-spot for sarcastic coming-of-age stories (e.g., Black Swan Green, She's Come Undone, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close).  I also dabble in science fiction and fantasy, young adult books, and occasional mysteries if the story is really well-written (e.g., I've started reading the Inspector Rebus series by Ian Rankin).  I don't like romance of any variety (except for occasional erotica), and rarely read chicklit, SS, thrillers, or paranormals. I also like unabridged audiobooks (cassettes or CDs) to listen to in the car and will listen to just about anything if it has a decent narrator.

3. Link to list of books read if maintained other than on your BC shelf
QUOTE
My BC shelf is a good indication of what I've read in the past year as nearly everything passed through there, but a better sense can be had from Goodreads, which has about the last five years of books read, plus some memorable others.

------------------------------------------

If this is too annoying, we don't have to do it, but we did something similar in my other monthly exchange and it's been nice to help me pick books that aren't on someone's wishlist but that I think the person will enjoy. Of course, sometimes even with help, I end up just purchasing wishlist books special because our tastes don't overlap enough for me to have something suitable on my shelf.

I'll post again once I figure out exactly what I want to include in it :)

Are you sending us the addresses soon? I have the first package packed up and ready to go...just need somewhere to send it to.

stellarv - February 14, 2008 06:03 PM (GMT)
I'm sending you girls the address right away. Please, do not forget to send the email confirming what book you are sending for duplicates check!!! I have already received msjoanna's for April and May.

ETA: I've already updated Amber and GateGypsy's month change on the first page of this thread.

HAVE FUN, GIRLS!

msjoanna - February 14, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
First, if you haven't sent the information listed above (wishlist location, book prefs, list of books read) to me, please do. I'd like to put together the whole list soon.

Second, I saw in the PM with rootmartin's address that a wishlist book is expected for the monthly person...

It's okay with me if the rule for this exchange is that you have to send a wishlist book, but in a lot of the monthly groups, it's more like, a wishlist book is nice, but something else you think the person would enjoy is also acceptable. Like I said, I'm fine either way, but just wanted to raise this since this is the first year of this group.

Also, to the extent wishlist books are required, and even if they aren't, please let this be a reminder to everyone to make sure to update your wishlist and to try to keep it from getting too small (not that I've ever had that problem...I swear mine just keeps multiplying).

Hi all!

I defer to stella re: rules for wishlist books for this exchange.

But, I will also send along a post like msjoanna outlined about likes/dislikes. I'll post it here too.

Things have been super hectic lately so sorry I haven't done it earlier.

And, I'll update my wishlist.....lots and lots of books to add after the best of 2007 swap!

I can't wait to send books to you all this year! So much fun! :bananadance:

It's the first year of this exchange and my first exchange too!!! :D

So, it's nice if everyone (specially the most experienced ones) can guide me into issues like those ones you're pointing out.

I think it's not mandatory that the book we're sending is a wishlist one. I've checked Cliff's site and rootmartin's wishlist is rather short and most books will be really hard for me to get here.

So I guess it's ok as you said. A wishlist book is nice, but something we think the person would like is perfectly acceptable!

As for sending wishlist locations, book prefs and stuff, I had not thought about until this extent. I guess I can gather this information and send you all, but I'm not quite sure on how to gather all of this. Maybe opening a new topic?

Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks girls!

Just PM the lists to me. I've started collecting them already -- I think I have 4 so far. Once I have all of them, I'll send them out either by PM or email to everyone.

That way, no one has to sort through other stuff to find them...

And, stellarv, you're doing great! I only raise these issues to make sure that we're doing what we want and not falling into doing things one way or another without considering it.

I can now post my package off tomorrow.

Also a huge thank you to Gategypsy for swapping months with me! Now I will be able to have my wishlist up to date for my family ready for Christmas.

rootmartin - February 15, 2008 01:20 AM (GMT)
Hi there!

I'll send this along to msjoanna, too, but I wanted to post this here since I've got the first month. :bananadance: Can you tell I'm excited?

My wishlist is here: Rootmartin's wishlist

A list of books read in 2007 is here: Rootmartin's bookshelf

I have to update it for 2008.

I enjoy travelogues and quirky memoirs written about time abroad. I also like books set in far-flung locales (at least far flung from where I am. :giggle:) See the Passport to the World VBB for ideas of what I mean. I love that vbb! Foodie books are a lot of fun.... like Garlic and Sapphires and Heat. And, I also like general fiction along the lines of Jodi Picoult. And, recently, I've gotten into graphic novels/memoirs such as Persepolis, Fun Home and Postcards. But, I'm not really into "traditional comics" or manga.

Lemonitsa - February 15, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
I PM'd Joanna with my info :D

GateGypsy - February 15, 2008 03:46 AM (GMT)
:pm: to msjoanna regarding where to find my wishlists and what kind of books I am interested in (ps... please include that I enjoy audiobooks, preferably unabridged, in CD or tape format! I can also use audible-download format audio books -- I'm an iTunes girl  )

:pm: to Stellarv with my selection for rootmartin!
:whip: I love being on the ball :giggle:

Now, if I could only just finish my homework with this kind of conviction...

nikel27 - February 15, 2008 06:24 AM (GMT)
Just want to let you know that I got the information from

*JOE's April Gal - rootmartin

Now I have to start looking at the wishlist.

Nicolé aka nikel27

GateGypsy - February 20, 2008 05:10 AM (GMT)
aaaaack! April isn't coming fast enogh

I've already chosen my books for May and June! Here's hoping I can keep on top of my reading so I can stay ahead like this! **crosses fingers**

**goes upstairs to read**

giz-angel - February 20, 2008 09:20 AM (GMT)
Sorry msjoanna - I haven't sent you info  however, I can say that I have a wishlist at cliff's but really like to get a book someone has enjoyed reading - my favourite genres are non-genre, mystery (not cozy) sick shit, thrillers, true crime, some chick lit, a smattering of science fiction.... I'm not a huge fan of non fiction or biography, and I am not that keen on historical romance.

My addy - it's on fantasy's google spreadsheet and RABCK.com, and stellarv has it.

GateGypsy - February 26, 2008 01:02 AM (GMT)
I got the PM with everyone's wishlists and preferences. Thanks for all your hard work in putting that together, msjoanna!

msjoanna - February 28, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
I received some info from bemaia:

QUOTE
Hi Joanna,

Sorry, but I've been a little busy down here. :)

My wish list is on my signature and I'm updating it to make sure that everybody will easily find the books I want. [It's at Cliff's -- link here]

I don't like romance, except for the historical ones like The Physician by Noah Gordon and the Shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, for example, but I love a good spy novel or a fantasy. I don't like science fiction at all. I have never read one that I liked.

I would love to read a book that you really love. I usually make a top 5 book list and I give one of those to someone else, you may like to do the same for me. I'll read it even if it's not the style that I like, I'm the type of person who reads everything.

Thanks for helping us with the "Just anOther Exchange" (JOE)

Cheers

Bernie.

Do people want a new PM with the update included? If so, I'm happy to send one out -- just let me know.
