geishabird - January 31, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
Well, it's about freakin' time...

 :j/k:

I can't wait to see the books that knocked everyone's socks off in '07! This is going to be a great swap.

Marlene - January 31, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
Geez I am still in stress about my reveal.
Just in desperation mooched a book from someone in the US who says she will mail anywhere.

Asking her if she wont mind waiting with sending the book till I know where it has to go to.

Crossing fingers.
If she does I do have a mighty fine book.

You do know that when hosting a swap randomizing is by far the hardest thing you should do. I'm so sorry :(

Flicki - January 31, 2008 11:21 PM (GMT)
Just left my reveal with the co-players! :-) Now I'm heading for the mattress. G'night! I suppose it won't be my turn before I return. :D

The Girls by Lori Lansens

Meet Rose and Ruby: sisters, best friends, confidantes, and conjoined twins.

Since their birth, Rose and Ruby Darlen have been known simply as "the girls." They make friends, fall in love, have jobs, love their parents, and follow their dreams. But the Darlens are special. Now nearing their 30th birthday, they are history's oldest craniopagus twins, joined at the head by a spot the size of a bread plate.

When Rose, the bookish sister, sets out to write her autobiography, it inevitably becomes the story of her short but extraordinary life with Ruby, the beautiful one. From their awkward first steps--Ruby's arm curled around Rose's neck, her foreshortened legs wrapped around Rose's hips--to the friendships they gradually build for themselves in the small town of Leaford, this is the profoundly affecting chronicle of an incomparable life journey.

As Rose and Ruby's story builds to an unforgettable conclusion, Lansens aims at the heart of human experience--the hardship of loss and struggles for independence, and the fundamental joy of simply living a life. This is a breathtaking novel, one that no reader will soon forget, a heartrending story of love between sisters.

I chose this book as one of my top reads for 2007 because it's a beautifully done story which does so many things so well: it makes you forget that there's anything unusual about these two remarkable women; it explores the concept of loving someone in so many different ways; it is wonderfully written, deeply touching and often quite funny; and it does all these things without once becoming maudlin, sappy or contrived. I read 110 books in 2007, and out of all of them, this was probably my favourite and the one that touched me the most.

I originally read this book as part of a (still moving) bookring; look here to see what others have thought of it so far...

CheriePie - February 1, 2008 01:34 AM (GMT)
FYI, I'll be inaccessible for much of the day on Sunday the 3rd due to the Super Bowl. But I'll try to leave a move or two in my siggy.

I have sent my reveal out and will be looking in sometime in the night, during Noah's feeding.

Cheers  :cold: (this is what we have to look forward to tomorrow)

redhot-brat - February 1, 2008 03:18 AM (GMT)
:peek: Just checking to see if this has moved much. Doesn't look like quite yet. I'll check back again Later.

Doesn't matter how many times you hit the "randomize" button, someone will always be last! :giggle:

I'm turning in for the night, but several people have my reveal, so they're welcome to give it if it's asked for. I have to work at 530AM pacific time tomorrow (130 pm board time), so I'll check in briefly beforehand, I hope, but it'll be nearly 8 hrs later (130pm pacific time/930pm board time) before I'll get another chance to look in.

Gunnight, folks! Happy Swapping!

FYI "board time" is completely different for everyone and depends on what you have your time zone set to in your profile. That said, if you didn't set it in your profile, it'll default to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), so I have a feeling maybe that's what you're seeing.

*doing math on fingers* yup, that'd be 8 hours from Pacific time so I suspect that's why you're seeing a "board time" different from your local time. Silly grrl! :whip:

Sleep tight!

chronicbooker3 - February 1, 2008 06:21 AM (GMT)
Just a question

What if it happens that your reveal is the same as someone elses??? Is it ok because there are so many playing?

teachie - February 1, 2008 07:09 AM (GMT)
I had 2 best of 2007 reads and The Girls was one of them. I just hope my second isn't revealed. :nono:

lmn60 - February 1, 2008 07:13 AM (GMT)
The randomiser was kind! Hopefully my responsibilities tomorrow won't hold up play as I'm in middle ground. :phew:
