(warning, she answers my spoiler - but not really a spoiler) question :)

The author is the MIL of a friend of mine :-)

 Very neat when you get an author to respond even if you know them through someone. ;)

Congrats!

It is a great feeling when an author posts on your blog. I still jump around everytime it happens to me!! I even put a list of them in the sidebar now because I am so excited when I can add another name!

Lemonitsa - January 31, 2008 04:06 AM (GMT)
I think that's way cool :)

How cool is that, you ask? I answer: very. :D

I just gotta start doing my blog again...maybe Ruth Rendell will stop by to say hi...

I remember when Jeanne Stein commented on mine after I blogged about meeting her. It made my day. :D I still haven't read those books yet, though. I need to rectify that this year!

I'm just thrilled that authors are out there, actively keeping an eye on their publicity, and recognizing the importance of us common folk.

I am responding because I just got one too!!

And this is one from last year -

I am curious though, how come they seem to know immediately that some blogger out there mentioned their book. In some way it's kind of creepy, as if someone is watching my back and hearing my gossips...

Although I must say, it's really gratifying to have the author leaving a comment!

In my case, her daughter in law saw it and told her about it.

BUT most, who have a decent marketing adviser, have their name/book name/etc set up as a Google Alert. I do the same with my business and my name (there's some nice lady up in Canada that does something with horses with my name too!) as well as a few key words I always want to see new content about. It sends me a notification anytime I get a hit. It's actually been quite useful!

Google baby! They probably even have it automated with google alerts. But just key in the author's name or book and voila, your blog entry will be there, usually right on the first page!

(Yup, I've had a few myself, but haven't felt like going back through and finding them all, lazy busy chickie that I am... )

Azuki, some of the authors are crazy about their reviews. I have Statcounter on my blog, and I've noticed consistent visits from one IP address up to 30 times per day when someone was expecting a review! If I match the city with the author's information, I can usually deduce it's the author stalking me, especially when the visits stop a few days after I post the review.

I'm pretty sure lots of them use Google Alerts, too. I think that's what Scott at BC uses...that's how he responds so quickly when anyone mentions Bookcrossing on a blog or something. I know I have them set up for me.

More and more authors are vanity searching themselves. I think it's funny :giggle:

WestofMars - February 17, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
Funny?

No way. It's a chance to connect with your strong supporters -- and to know who's talking crap about you. I'm amazed more authors don't have the alerts turned on.
