Title: HistFict VBB Round 10 - Please Read 1st Post
morsecode - January 18, 2008 11:19 PM (GMT)
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ New Policy ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The site moderators want each VBB to have rules about participation, specifically as it relates to books-owed.
Our new policy will be that members who have books owed that are over 4 rounds old will not be able to participate in the box until those books are sent out.
Right now, the individuals who fall into that category are:
- butterfly-noir
- cats-eye
- cougmax
Names will be removed from the list as books are sent out.
Note - Because I am only announcing this now, this policy will not go into effect until the next round (round 11).
Please let me know if you have any questions.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Round 10 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ TURN TIME LIMIT RULES1. Turn time is 2 full days, 48 hours from the time the update listing the player's turn is posted.
2. If two days is a problem for you (i.e. you can't get online during the weekends, or will be on a trip, etc.) please let me know so that I can put a note by your name and allow you extra time.
3. If the full 48 hours has passed with no word from the player, the next player will go, and the missing player will be moved down 1 space. We will do this 3 times, but without the 2 day time limit each time. A Player skipped in this way will only have the time it takes for the next three people to take their turns to check in before being dropped to the bottom of the list (this is all if we have not heard from the player). It will look like this: 2 days, skip, skip, skip, bottom. If a player is skipped in this way and/or placed at the bottom, that spot will become their new permanent spot until the list is reshuffled.
4. The Box Organizer will be the time keeper and determine a skip or bottom placement.
5. This bookbox will make its rounds EVERY OTHER MONTH and books may be left in for THREE rounds.
6. Members who have books owed that are over 4 rounds old will not be able to participate in the box until those books are sent out.
ON YOUR TURN:1. Select the number of books that you want to take out of the box and list them for us in your post.
2. Replace those with the same number of books and please provide links to the journal entries for your books if possible. (or more if you like, sometimes people do).
3. If you decide to skip, you have the option to ask to be placed at the bottom of the list for another try. If you do this, that will become your new permanent spot until the list is reshuffled. (reshuffling will happen after every 3rd round)
4. New players will be accepted during play - they will be added to the bottom of the list.

Shaunesay takes out: *The Ruby Ring by Diane Haeger (TBR) (elsi) |
Argghhh!!! So now I owe you another TBR. The only TBRs that I have offered are the ones in this box. First, I decided to join the Historical Fiction swap and because I had not been reading this genre, I bought several books to choose between to offer for the swap. And, since I had *really* enjoyed the book I swapped, I decided that the VBB would be a good way to feed a new habit. I plucked a couple of books from the box & put in everything I had on hand, including those new books.
OK -- this book is #3. I'm going to finish Smuggler's Moon that I took from the box last time. Then I have a library book that has a due date  And then The Ruby Ring so you won't have to wait very long.
(Fortunately, I know you're going to be busy reading the two SF novels I just mailed to you.)

CdnBlueRose - January 20, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
I know I read a post somewhere from tranq1 saying she was going sailing for a few months and wouldn't be participating in anything, so I moved her name to the bottom - I'll go check and see if I can find that...... :)
Here it is:
Posted: Jan 9 2008, 08:07 PM
We are finally leaving on our sailboat trip to the Caribbean. We delayed it a few weeks because I have had some minor medical problems. We will be gone for about 4 months. We are going first to the Bahamas and then to most of the other Islands until we get to Trinidad. It takes so long because sailboat don't go very fast and we will be stopping often along the way. We will leave the boat in Trinidad for hurricane season and fly home. We will fly down to Trinidad next year to take the boat home. Trinidad normally doesn't get hurricanes. It is just off the coast of Venezuela and too far south for hurricanes. We will have limited access to internet in our stops along the way, so I won't be here much. I will check my messages and I will send out anything I owe in 6 to 8 weeks when we are in Puerto Rico(A US possession with fast and low cost US mail).
If you are sending me anything it will get held in the security room at my condo. I will be happy to see it and journal it when I get back.

Will make my move in just a few minutes. I do have a question, though. I notice several people have replaced books with two stars. Since the rules for this swap say that you have to replace those with 3 stars, does this mean that the replacement was for some other reason? Or did the player simply not notice that they didn't have to replace this round?
fantasy221 - January 23, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
If i remember correctly we started off with the 2 star replacement but found that sometimes people wouldn't have enough to replace since HF can take longer to read than, say, teen fic. So we added the 3rd star. But i think people can still replace at 2 stars if they want to.... I know i've replaced at 2 stars once because i wanted to make sure a book that was avl got into the box before I forgot and used it for something else.
But I could be wrong and maybe it was just an oversight on their part?! Who knows! lol

The two books I just took out with 2 stars I took out because I have a friend who really wants to read them and I wanted to send them to her.
Honestly you can replace your books whenever your turn comes up (be it at one star or three), but you have to replace it once it gets to three.
I hope this helps!

Yep -- that makes sense. Cats had done the same thing earlier, and I wondered then -- particularly because she said "removes" instead of "takes out" which you had said. So, when it was my turn to talk, I figured I'd ask.
