If you are indeed in Ontario, Canada, as it says in your Profile, then you are at GMT-5. Therefore, 9pm GMT would be:

4pm in ON/NY/FL
3pm in TX/MO
2pm in CO
1pm in CA

catsalive - January 15, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
I might be able to. I think that's 8am Monday.

rebeccaljames - January 15, 2008 08:47 PM (GMT)

Greenwich Mean Time. So yes UK time and +1 for Europe. And -5 for bits of Canada. That's my knowledge gone!

The reason I went for then was cos I figured it'd end by Midnight for Europeans - late but not crippling - and 11 for UK - I can get up for work at the crack of dawn on that - and it wouldn't be too early for the US/ Canada, and possible for NZ/Aus if they wanna swap first thing :)

I have to get up and go and look after about 44 x 1 1/2 - 6 year old kids for 8 hours and then have a 3 hour team meeting. So it is crippling :giggle:

It all depends on what kind of weekend I have. If we have to go away I will be too busy catching up on my washing etc. If we stay home all weekend it should be doable.

elsi - January 15, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
Well, if you're capping at 12, let me get my bid in quickly. I'll play.

CheriePie - January 15, 2008 10:26 PM (GMT)
Oh drat. Here I am converting the time and everything, seeing that it's 4pm for me in US Eastern Time which would work out just peachy. Only to discover that it's for Sunday. :o Nope, no good... see my avatar for why! :P

Anyone else needing to convert? See here.

Breeze - January 15, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
me!

luckaye - January 15, 2008 10:42 PM (GMT)

Thanks for that zosime!!

I know that I'm in GMT as I live only about 50 miles from Greenwich and probably only 15 miles east of the Greenwich meridian.

Therefore I can play!!! Yippee!! Though it l;ooks as if I'll be on the reserve list. Ho Hum!!

spiderchic - January 16, 2008 10:43 AM (GMT)
I'd like to play - I can see though I'll be on the reserve list so shall pop in and see what happens.

:D

giz-angel - January 16, 2008 11:17 AM (GMT)
Added you - and I live IN Greenwich so therefor about 1 mile from the birth of time :)

candy-is-dandy - January 16, 2008 02:37 PM (GMT)
:duh: I've just realised I can't play as I'll be at the panto. We are going to see Cinderella at The Old Vic.

I'd trade places with you. How long will the Pantos be playing? I'm arriving in London on 3 February, but figured I'd miss them.

I think they usually finish by the end of Jan. We are going on the last night of this production. I wonder if we can gatecrash the after-show party??

There's loads of other good theatre too but not usually the sort where you are encouraged to shout at the actors.

Are you visiting any bookcrossing places or people in London, Elsi??

I don't have any plans for London -- I'm just landing there early in the morning <grin>.

I'm going to be attending some meetings in Hursley (near Winchester). Will be there for two weeks, so will have the weekend between for visiting or sight-seeing. Suggestions?

Also, I will be shopping at W H Smith in Winchester to stock up on UK-only editions that are difficult (or expensive) to get in the US.

giz-angel - January 16, 2008 06:53 PM (GMT)
Winchester is so nice :) what do you like to see Elsi? What kind of sightseeing?

I have seen most of the "tourist" stuff in and around Winchester. If it weren't February, I might go out to the zoo on Saturday, but it is likely to be much colder than I would be comfortable. I like museums and may take the train into London to visit the Victoria & Albert. Last trip, I spent a whole day at the Natural History and Science museums. On an earlier trip, I finally got around to visiting the Tower of London.

What I wind up doing will depend on who I am with. I'm a great participant, but when I'm on my own, I'm as likely to curl up in the hotel room with a stack of books and not come out until I have to go back to the office on Monday for more meetings. I'm hoping to get just a little bit more out of my trip this time, and not just shopping!

Hence my asking for suggestions. I'm not up for anything that requires long or difficult walking. I don't really own any good cold-weather clothes, so I lean toward indoor activities. But my interests are many and varied. I've visited Imperial War Museums, Cathedrals, Formal Gardens, the Museum of Mechanical Music, Castles, etc. I suspect that neither Stonehenge nor Corfe Castle have changed enough to demand a return visit. I don't have time to go to Ireland. Essentially, I have the weekend of 9-10 February free. A choral concert would be a wonderful thing to attend; I'll have to check to see what the various Choral societies in Winchester, Portsmouth, and Southampton might have going on.

Nooooo :whip: but I reckon you will probably get on cos someone will not make it on the day - RL tends to get in the way with ALS :)

Or Salisbury for choral societies - beautiful cathedral there too.

Well Greenwich is quite nice to visit not just cos I live there, Maritime museum and Queens House and the Royal Naval college plus a nice market, then the Docklands Light Railway through Canary Wharf is a great way to see that district and brings you back into central London with little hassle :) I included a link to the Docklands Museum which is very interesting.

I like the National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square too.

Here are a few linkies

Sunlightbub - January 20, 2008 03:16 PM (GMT)
I'm in two minds about playing too, as I'm knackered already and it's 3.15pm!!!. Should we reschedule as it seems like a lot of people can't play and it was Giz's swap?

Amberkatze - January 20, 2008 03:19 PM (GMT)
Would be nice to do it another time. I am glad I dropped out...got a call from my work collegue...she is still ill so I have to get up at 5am and cover her shift!
