Title: ~ BOOK CHARITY ~ Pay It Forward
Description: do you have any of these books?
CheriePie - January 5, 2008 04:37 AM (GMT)
Do you have any of these books you're willing to send?I recall Sand starting something similar to this in the old forum, but with books Owed as opposed to Lost. This is a bit different... Instead, I'd like to keep an updated list of books that were never received by their intended recipient for one reason or another. Valid reasons include, but are not limited to:
- lost in the mail or package damaged in transit such that the book is no longer readable
- the person who was supposed to send the book(s) has disappeared or otherwise become incommunicado
So if another Obsessor has an available copy of one of these books, they could send it along to the originally intended recipient in a kind of "Pay It Forward". Hopefully, those offering up AVLs from their shelf will check this list first. *hint hint*
With the help of the other mods *asks nicely* we'll keep this list up-to-date as others add to this thread. We'll attempt to keep up with and remove old entries as best we can, HOWEVER
before sending, you should PM the intended recipient to verify they still want the book and confirm their address, as they may have since acquired it elsewhere or no longer want to read it.
A few guidelines: - Please don't add books owed from SandDanz. We've set up a separate thread for her books in the hopes that she'll eventually return and fulfill those obligations.
- If both parties involved in the transaction are still active at BObs and sending stuff out, please verify that the book was indeed never received before adding it here. In many cases it may just have forgotten to be journaled at the receiving end. (I expect this is part of standard VBB maintenance anyway.) The only books that should be listed here, in which both parties are still active members, are those books that are truly lost in the mail.
- Before sending, contact the intended recipient directly to verify they still want the book and confirm their address. They may have since acquired it elsewhere or no longer want it since we put this list together.
- You should only offer up books that you have available to send now or in the immediate future. We don't want this list to become a way of transferring Owed TBRs from one pile (or person) to another. :P
- This service is intended only for other Obsessors. By that I mean please don't post in here about books gone missing over on BookCrossing for people who aren't even involved over here. I don't mind linking to any other lists like this from the top post but I don't want to be adding all those to our list.

Malagan has also returned to the site and intends to mail out owed books - I'll also delete those as they are rec'd. And WELCOME BACK, MALAGAN! Sorry to hear you've had a tough time but glad things are looking up - we hope you hang out with us again!**All outstanding books listed here are now listed in the Owed Book Database. If the wish has been fulfilled, it is marked as such with a comment in the Notes field saying who fulfilled the wish. We did it this way so that the complete list by original intended sender will be accessible through the History tab if needed. Thanks to all our Angels for fulfilling wishes!

Hello :)
I have Single White Vampire, and can send it to cestmoi, but it will be in February, if that's OK.
I need to read it first :D
hugs,
Lemmy
CheriePie - January 5, 2008 07:31 AM (GMT)
Okay since it's been like 9 months since I last checked with cestmoi on those books (when I saw her in Charleston), I emailed her to verify that she didn't since get them elsewhere.
So thank you Lemmy! And I'll update here if cestmoi doesn't post here directly.

Wow Cherie. :o You are the best. It seems you have been very actieve lately here trying to sort stuff out.

I can send Narcissus in Chains to Kislany. I am only on #8 in the series but I don't mind sending mine to her and getting another copy elsewhere when the time comes.
cheesygiraffe - January 5, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
I don't have any of those 3.
Anybody else need help?

Well why don't you check with Kis and see if she's ready for it now or what. Perhaps she wasn't ready for it yet and that's why she told Nan she'd write it off. So at the rate you read, you might have gotten to it before Kis needs it anyway. I just hate to see her go without since she had put something in the VBB for that and does still want it....
Thanks Amber!!

I know that Rosie said she knew of some outstanding books owed from Cougmax who's now gone.
Perhaps she's going to confirm if they're still wanted/needed by their original participants and then those should definitely go on the list too.

I added them all to the list, but some of these I'm not sure on as I couldn't look up their status on BookCrossing. (Maybe it's down at the moment.)
Like the one from purple-pixie for instance. She's still active. That's marked mailed but there's not a date so is it that you don't know. In which case purple-pixie should be following up rather than asking someone else to bail her out. If it was legitimately lost in the mail, that's another thing and it does belong here.
Also, Three has admitted that she has a lot of stuff she hasn't yet journaled. Have you confirmed with her that she definitely didn't receive that book from purple-pixie. (Actually this is the same transaction I'm questioning anyway.)
For anything to do with daughterofcokie, you can contact her mom, ChemoRN, via BookCrossing and let her know on any books DoC owes and she will send it out.
So basically I'd like to see a teensy bit more research from your side before automatically putting everything that's not yet received on this list. Okay?

Sure, I understand that you'd like more research done, so don't worry about putting the ones on there that you don't want to. I'm certainly *not* doing any work on finding out which ones from the Everybook VBB should go on the list. I maintain the Everybook VBB books out of play list so I thought compiling this information would be helpful; however, I am not everyone's personal assistant. If people don't have the time and effort to journal their owns books either with receipt info or with accurate info if/when the book was sent, I'm certainly not spending my time and effort to put into resolving what is going on with their books. If someone wants their book on the list, they can take on the responsibility of submitting the request themselves, I suppose.
ChemoRN and I had a conversation weeks ago about the released books and I suggested she pm mbp regarding The Onion Field.
AlterEgoZoe - January 6, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)
I was thinking about something similar with this with the Horror VBB. Most that I have on my list are to or from SandDanz (which from what I remember is on the job hunt still). I was considering asking Sand if she didn't mind, I could offer my copy of a book she owes someone in the VBB.

Thanks Joy! For filling me in on the DoC one. :)
And what I'll do right now is just point Three to this thread and ask if she knows whether or not she received that book and if she still wants it. That's all...
Unfortunately, I kinda do feel like I have to play the "personal assistant" role many times with the Paranormal VBB. Like if you've noticed the recent threads about Nan and Shawnna, for example. So yeah, I play the cattle prod quite a bit around here! I think some people are beginning to LIKE it!! :whip: :giggle:

Hiya! The mods and us have been discussing offline what to do about Sand's books. I think Cheesy wanted to spearhead something to help her out but I definitely think it should be done *outside* of this, because in most cases, Sand does have the books, just not the funds to get them mailed out, and sometimes not the time to find everything. Though I know she came a long way in getting her library organized. So yeah, we should definitely handle her stuff separately....
I do still owe a book to Sand from Round 1 of the Horror VBB myself, but in all honesty, unless you tell me I can't play otherwise, though I really haven't taken anything out since then anyway, I've kinda had the book that I owe her at the bottom of my priority list. I hate to be sending her more stuff just yet....

I'm keeping quiet Cherie :giggle:
I will try and sort out some from the mystery VBB but like chamb I'm getting a bit flaked out with it. I've been doing PMs to people to try and find out where books are, and not everyone has replied :(

|
|
|
No problem and thanks for putting together the list.
I certainly do understand about have to prod people with the VBBs and I'm certainly all for doing that within the VBB, as that comes with the role of hostess/manager/organizer. I wouldn't have agreed to the posistion if I wasn't ready to pm/annoy/pester people! For me though, I'm not keen on doing any more work for the benefit of other people when they aren't willing to do the work for themselves. And, I'm not talking about any person or people specifically, I mean anyone and everyone!

So yeah, we'll handle her stuff separately....
I don't care as long as they eventually get mailed and they get to whoever took it out of the VBB.
I just feel bad about a lot of the books that Sand owes. :erm: I'm kinda hestitant to mail Sand anything, as the last time I mailed something to her (and she was also active here, and I PM'd her the BCID so she wouldn't have to lug a book around just to JE it), she didn't journal it at all.
BTW I *do* see an awful lot of book rings, rays and boxes that Suefitz is either offering or signing up for. I would PM her and ask her to consider mailing the stuff she owes from here before offering rays/rings/boxes of her own and/or signing up for stuff. But I'm too much of a coward.

She hasn't really done any within the past three months that I know about, but if you see her doing it again let me know... I have no problem asking her to get her priorities in order (owed books vs rabcks, not real life priorites).

Great work Cherie. You can take my two books off, I don't necessarily need them.

Um, yeah. Sorry about all this. My life has been nothing but chaos for the last couple of months. I am working again, after 4.5 years of staying home with the babies, 3 part-time jobs, sometimes all of them in a 24-hour period. I know lots of people work and still uphold their responsibilities here so I have no excuses. I'm still here, somewhere, and will honestly try to do better.
Edited to say, Yes the book is here, you can take it off the list. **bows and scrapes backing out the door**

Cool idea. Thanks for the effort it takes to keep this active and up to date. I currently don't have any of the missing books, but will happily "donate" any should it come up at a later date that I do have one that shows up on the list.
CheriePie - January 7, 2008 10:49 AM (GMT)
FYI, I messaged happybunnygirl about her past due books and the fact that she hasn't been on the site since the end of October. Will let y'all know if I hear back. I did notice she was still active on MySpace regularly...
wss4 - January 7, 2008 11:38 AM (GMT)
Just an FYI, I know that Jebbie is behind with a lot of books, but have noticed that she is still very active on Bookcrossing. So someone may want to contact her and see what is up.
ETA-- Here is one book from the Sci-fi/Fantasy VBB that I think qualifies--
The Stone Light by Kai Meyer (Antheras --> Kyrissaean) Wild Released????

I have emailed her about the outstanding books on the mystery VBB but I haven't had a reply....

Great idea Cherie- Next time I go to a library sale I'll take the list. I like having something to look for- see, then I'm not going for myself, oh no, I'm looking for someone else and if a book or two just happens to fall into the bag  when I can't help that now can I?

I know that Rosie said she knew of some outstanding books owed from Cougmax who's now gone.
Perhaps she's going to confirm if they're still wanted/needed by their original participants and then those should definitely go on the list too.
|
I know lizziwhizz (who updates the Audio Books Out Of Play) thread, at one time had a list of books owed by cougmax from that Bookbox. Perhaps she can provide that list. I was trying to find it to see if I had anything that was owed but it looks like she removed it from the Out of Play thread.

I have The Englisher by Beverly Lewis and I would be glad to send it on to ramson :D

Yeah, that'd definitely be a good idea to get over here. I've been trying to make sure all the VBB mods know that this was set up, but haven't really found the time to contact them each individually so I figure by word of mouth, they hopefully should all stumble in here over the course of the next week or so. Thanks!

So long as that's no trouble? If you've got an overflowing Owed TBR or anything, we can wait to see if someone else has it available.
For now, I'll go ahead and mark it from you, but if you get too backed up, we can throw it back into the list and see if anyone else comes up with it... just LMK, k?

I may second that PM to Suefitz if she is still signing up for stuff. While running a few rounds of the Audio Book Box I let her off the hook with several books in the box that hadn't yet been selected so she could focus on getting her owed books sent out. This was in October:
| QUOTE |
| QUOTE | Suefitz- Hi, good to hear from you to know everything is ok. Why don't I go ahead and make an executive decision: we'll eliminate the books you have in the box, since you're no longer playing, so that you can concentrate on the books that are already committed to someone. I know that irenic has been trying to reach you regarding an audiobook she owes you, and I think there were a couplethree books owed by you from previous rounds. Maybe it will be less overwhelming if you don't have to worry about replacing books, etc, for a box you're no longer playing in. If you feel like this is a good plan, please reply soon to let me know. Thanks for getting in touch, -Liz |
that would be great if I could be excused. I will try to get back on track shortly and possibly join the box again. I certainly have enjoyed it.
Sue

and to my knowledge no change has occurred in the books she owes via the Audio Book Box. Shall I post the books she owes for this list, Cherie?
