Title: 2007 Reading Results

noumena12 - January 1, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
I thought I'd share the summary results for 2007!! I always find statistics very interesting. I'm also using new book library software and it has a whole bunch of new reporting features. Since I finished the migration from BookLibrary to BookCAT I thought I'd share some of those as well.

Pages Read 2007: 107232
Cost of Books Read: $798.19

Wow. You must really like numbers, Ann.

I'm not on your list. It seems we usually do at least one trade at some point. How odd!

Amberkatze - January 1, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
Wow!!!!

I wish I could list all my stats like that!

I know I read 340 books.

I have no idea how many I bought or how much it cost. I can say it was alot though ;)

I dread to think how much I spent on postage but I think it was less than 2006.

My Bookcrossing Stats are here - http://www.bookcrossers.at/shelf/amberkatze/

Me neither! I know we switched out some books at the convention!

cheesygiraffe - January 1, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
Wow Ann! You spent a lot on postage and books. You read a lot though too. ;) I wanted to tell you thank you for all the rabcks you sent me last year.

I read 155 books in 2007. That's the only stat I know. :giggle:

chambejd - January 1, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
I read 52 books and listened to 12 unabridged audiobooks. My goal was to read 50 books. I think I'll keep my goal the same for next year.

Those would have only been the trades for this year. But it is odd that I didn't send you anything this year.

Me neither! I know we switched out some books at the convention!

I think I received some from you and if you picked mine up in a swap at the convention, they wouldn't be recorded to you. Or if you picked up something I wild released it wouldn't be shown as going to you either.

But maybe I lost some info in the migration...

noumena12 - January 1, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
The only reason that I can do most of these stats is because the software I use does it for me. Of course, the postage data comes out of stamps.com. Otherwise, I wouldn't keep the info if I had to do it manually.

I wouldn't mind some FREE software that does that for me.

AceofHearts - January 1, 2008 10:17 PM (GMT)
I read 88 books and I am going to do some stats on my blog when I have a chance to do the work

shaunesay - January 1, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
Let's see here... *consults excel spreadsheet*

I *read* 85, which are broken down as follows:

13 Audio
7 Fantasy
11 Manga
14 Mystery
24 Romance
12 Teen
4 Historical Fiction
85 Total

My total pages were 20,235 which includes 206 pages from 2 books I didn't finish (but I read those pages, so that's fair right? )

I made my 43things goal to read and pass along 50 books that I'd received from other BC'ers.

Noumena, Karendawn and Morsecode were the top three BC'ers whose books I passed to other BC'ers within that 50. There were 4 from each of them that were passed along

Let's see if I can find anything else interesting here... hmmm...

the oldest book I read this year was from 1978

my average pages read per day was 55.4

Only 8 of those 85 I read were by male authors, and 5 of those were audiobooks... completely not on purpose, just the way it worked out!

I think that's enough facts from me... the rest would just start to get really boring... but I did make charts, just to solidify that I am in fact an accountant geek! ;) I won't show them to you though, it's enough to know that I did, and that my husband was very amused by it...

The software wasn't free but I thought it was reasonably priced at $39.99

camis - January 2, 2008 10:06 AM (GMT)
I read 114 books but thats about all I know

Wish I kept better stats but lacking in time and energy!

So I thought I'd take a look at who all I've sent books to since I've been tracking such information....here it is!

I wanted to read 100 books in 2007 but more importantly I wanted to read books received from other BCers. While 78 of my 147 reads (counting audios) were from BCers, I also received 74 from BCers. So I only shrunk my TBR from other BCers by 4

Here are my stats:

Start of 2007:
180 Books on TBR (76 from BCers, 104 registered by me)
30 Audios on TBL (5 from BCers, 25 registered by me)
TOTAL: 210 TBR (81 from BCers, 129 registered by me)

Received in 2007:
119 Books (59 from BCers, 55 registered by me, 5 borrowed)
16 Audios (15 from BCers, 1 registered by me)
TOTAL: 135 Books (74 from BCers, 56 registered by me, 5 borrowed)

Read in 2007:
109 Books (60 from BCers, 44 registered by me, 5 borrowed)
38 Audios (18 from BCers, 20 registered by me)
TOTAL: 147 Books (78 from BCers, 64 registered by me, 5 borrowed)

End of 2007:
190 Books on TBR (75 from BCers, 115 registered by me)
8 Audios on TBL (2 from BCers, 6 registered by me)

I don't record books I pass along w/out finishing so that may throw off the received numbers a little. I also only record the book when I finish it so the number of books/pages represents books finished in each month.

This year, I'm definitely going to try & focus on shrinking my TBR pile. I guess that means it is time for a TBR cleanup. I think this year, I'll keep a list of books I pass along without reading/finishing just to get a better idea of how I do with cleaning up my TBR

Wow, impressive stats everyone! I don't keep up with the pages or where I got the books from just the book count.

I read a record (for me) 109 books in 2007.

Very impressive indeed. :)
Wat does loan per borrower mean Noumena?
Next to my name it says 0.21
is that 2 books?

Wow! Thanks Ann, for sharing more of what BookCAT can do. Reporting and statistics isn't one of the things I looked at when I was evaluating it against Book Collector so it was nice to see your data in action.

I don't have any numbers prepared from Book Collector, but I'm going to see what all kinds of Stats I can have it produce for me tonight. I need to get a review written for my last book of 2007, and get my 2 43things goals updated and all that good stuff.

Oh but I managed to read 73 books last year, less than previous years but oh well. For me, it ain't about the race, just the fun I have getting there.

Last year I read 73 books. I wanted to read 100 this year, and I came close: 91!
I'm happy. :)

68 of those books went to BookObsessed/BookCrossing members.

I have no idea how many pages I read, nor how much I spent, I buy way too much....

I use BookCAT's "loan" feature to track who I sent books to. So Loan per Borrower shows how many books I've sent to a specific person.

In your case, I've sent you 3 books which is 0.21% of the total number of books I've sent out. Of course, this is only in the last couple of years when I've been using software to track such things.

Yeah...DH's head always explodes when he goes to see how much I've been spending. Oh well, he has his one vices! And they aren't cheap either!

The stats weren't a feature that I used in evaluating the software either...it's just a nice side benefit. I still do some of the stats I want with excel.

I know I spend lots on books. I don't worry about it. I did scare terra57 when I was visiting her the first time. I cleaned out the used book store! The second visit was much more... subdued  I only bought 4 books at B&N. That is a miracle for me. :giggle:

Well this year was a somewhat slower reading year for me - though I do have a beautiful little guy to occupy my time instead!

I haven't yet tallied the page number, average pages per book, genre count or such yet, but for raw book numbers I read 80 books in 2007. There were several books that I started in 2007 but didn't finish until his week so my 2008 count is already at 5 books read!

Here is a comparison from the last 4 years (when I started tracking my reading):

2004: 58 books
2005: 115
2006: 107
2007: 80

I don't have a specific goal for 2008, though getting back to over 100 would be nice to whittle down my huge tbr pile. I did take a hard look at my BC shelf and determined that I have 4 books from other BCers given to me in 2004! I REALLY need to read and move those on!! I'll be working my way through the 2005 pile too. If only I wasn't so tempted at the library to pick up books!!

xallroyx - January 5, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
I ended up reading 75 books in 2007 year, which is one more than the previous year! I'm not going to set any large goals, but I'm going to go through books I've had awhile and from other BCers and try to whittle those down a bit. I'll always buy books, but I'll try to buy them for my classroom rather than have them sit on my shelves at home.

I read 186 books in 2007. I don't include re-reads in my count. I actually keep the list of the books that I read. I have 2006 and 2007 saved in a Word document and I just started the list for 2008. lol Am I the only one?
