Title: How long....?
Description: need opinions

I have a book that I mailed out from a swap. It came back to me as undeliverable. I've been unable to locate the BOer after several months and others seem to be having the same problem.

How long should I wait before offering this book up again? Would this be considered extremely rude? The book was stolen several times in the swap. I just don't want to keep hanging on to a book that someone else could be enjoying.

Hmmm... I have a similar problem, I have a book and no address and no contact. I have had the book since May, I figure I would let a whole year go by before I do something else with the book, but mine wasn't so coveted.

I would wait wait until January before offering it up again because the person might be on a holiday trip or very busy and hasn't had time to catch up with BO (Some people have different priorities  )

anything I can help with cowgirl? I've not had that problem so far.... so I dunno what I would do. I sort of think I would feel like I should RABCK the book but there is no good reason for that at all :erm: it's just a gut feeling for me.

Well, for starters, I'd recommend letting us know who it is you're referring to as someone here might have some additional information for you....

Also, then the Mods/admins can make note of it officially as well, make sure said person is on our naughty list :nono: so no one else encounters the same issues.

Beyond that, I'd say probably about 6 to 9 months would be my personal timeframe.

Well, you mailed it to them where they said, right? And it came back? So you paid for postage and did your deed and others are having problems too. I'd PM them at both places and wait 3 weeks. (2 weeks if it's a vacation and 1 week to respond) then I'd do whatever I wanted. You already tried to send it once.

I'm mean though, I guess. I wouldn't do it if it was a regular, but for a disappearance. Oh well.

Ditto.

There are several members who have disappeared from the site both owing books and having books owed to them.

Personally I would say you have gone above and beyond your responsibility to try to get this book to the person. I would offer it up if it has been a reasonable time since this member has been to the board.

Personally, I think a year is waaaaay too long to give someone that has disappeared, but that's just me. A few months, tops, especially if you've mailed it and it's been returned.

Me too

I agree with everyone. Though if you really feel compelled to keep trying, let one of the mods see what extra info they may have on a person. As Cherie said, this person needs to be put on the naughty list if they've chosen not to participate at BO anymore.

I agree. You've done more than your share. I would think a few months is more than enough time.
