Title: Passport to the World - Round 3
Description: Come travel with us!

rootmartin - December 1, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
Welcome to Round 3 of the Passport to the World VBB!

The Rules:

(1) I will post a list of books and the order of the box participants on the first of every other month.

(2) Each person may take as many books out of the box as they want; however, you must put in the same number of books. This means that you may be responsible for shipping the number of books that you have put in. You control how many books you are willing to ship by only taking out/putting in that number of books.

(3) Play may continue perpetually. You can choose to skip your turn by not taking any books out of the box and passing the turn on to the next person.

(4) Books that qualify for this bookbox are fiction, biographies, memoirs and travelogues set in Africa, Asia, Latin America or the Middle East or based on the experiences of immigrants from those locations. In essence, this vbb is meant to open doors to new cultural experiences. :D

(5) TBRs are allowed but the books should be mailed out within two months of being chosen (i.e. if a book is chosen September 15th, the book should be mailed out by November 15th).

(6) Any books not taken after 3 rounds will be replaced by the person who put the book in. (Asterisks are used to indicate how many rounds a book has been in the bookbox.)

(7) You have 48 hours from the time the person before you posts their move in the thread to make your move. If you haven't made your move in that amount of time, you will be skipped once. If you don't show up within 48 hours when your turn comes up again, you will be moved to the end of the list. If you don't show up at all for a round, you will be removed from the list for the next round. However, if you want to rejoin at any time, you will be free to do so.

(7) New participants are welcome and can join at any time! If we are in the middle of a round, they will be added to the end of the list. If we are between rounds, they will be randomized into the list like everyone else.

(8) The list of participants will be randomized every three rounds.

(9) Once you have chosen your books, please PM your address to the person whose books you have chosen.

(10) Once you've taken your turn, please PM the next person to let them know it's their turn. If you can't PM them for some reason, please say so when you post your move, so someone else can!

Books Out Of Play This Round

rootmartin - December 1, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
Hi folks! We're up and running again! :dance2:

I'm going to randomize the order after this round so round 4's order will be new.

Also, books from round 2 should be mailed off to the recipient within two months of when it was chosen (so likely by the end of this round of the vbb.) If you've already mailed and/or received books, please post on the books out of play thread if you haven't already.

Thanks!

tenneh - December 1, 2007 11:39 PM (GMT)
Hi

Could I join in? I love books like this. If I'm at the end of the list maybe I can get a couple read before my turn so they won't have to be TBR!!

Thanks!

:erm: I'm so behind with my reading. (I've sent one; two to go) I'll do my best to read/ship them ASAP but I can't promise. Also I've been warned to avoid sending in Dec because of Holidays post craziness (I'm not using this as an excuse).

I added you at the end of the list.

No worries.... I am just starting tonight the book that I owe you from the Asian swap so I know how the TBR pile can get.

For this vbb, I'm just aiming for everyone to make a good effort so that we don't end up in a situation where there are books owed from 10 rounds ago.

I know that I'm always tempted to remove tons of books :giggle: but have to restrain myself as I know that I can't necessarily read all of them at the speed that would be necessary considering other books in my TBR. That said, I'll likely be doing lots of speed reading anyways as I'll have a number of books to replace this round.

luckaye - December 2, 2007 04:35 AM (GMT)
I am just about finished 'The Red Queen' so I will probably sent within the next couple of days to catch Azuki whilst she is in Hong Kong - cheaper to send to there than USA! LOL

rebeccaljames - December 2, 2007 08:55 AM (GMT)
I would like to drop out of this box for the time being. I may join again when life slows down a little bit.

bartonz - December 3, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
did Ri get a PM? It might be a good idea to add a message to the bottom of the round 2 thread (or books out of play) that rounnd 3 has started

msjoanna - December 3, 2007 12:09 PM (GMT)
I'm just noticing that there are lots of great books in this box that have to be replaced this time around. I, at least, would love to see many of these same unclaimed books resurface in later rounds even if they're cycled out now. In other words, just because your book didn't get picked right away, I don't think you should decide never to offer it again...

There have just been so many good books in this box that I can't pull all of the interesting ones every time...

You are so right! It was always a hard choice, I would have taken a lot more books if I didn't have to keep check of how many I can read and how much I can afford to ship out.

:ditto:

There are probably about 10-12 books currently in the box that I would love to read but simply can't choose at this time; alas, one must restrain oneself! :P Everyone has contributed a wonderful variety of books.

luckaye - December 3, 2007 09:31 PM (GMT)
Maybe we ought to raise it to 3 round before books need to be replaced?

Yep, I PMed her when I made the list. Since it's been two days, I'll move on to the next person in line and drop Ri down to the bottom. I hope she's doing fine.

I'll put a note on the Books out of play thread, too.

Since there is some interest in this, let's go ahead and try it with 3 rounds. If it turns out that too many books are languishing in the vbb for too long, I reserve the right to switch it back to two rounds. I will edit the rules to reflect the 3 round approach now.

And, each participant can replace their own books on their turn at any time. I will likely replace a couple of my books this round that I don't think will be chosen.

Thanks all for engaging in this discussion.

Sorry I was MIA, everyone! I wasn't around this weekend - work and travel. Then earlier this week I was trying to get all of my holiday errands done before the snow storm hit last night! We are snowed in now so I can catch up and bake up a storm for our holiday Open House! Sorry for making everyone wait!

 , you're ok zzz, it's just that busy time of year.

Today I told the lady at the sandwich shop that she hadn't given me my lemonade while I was holding it in my hand!! Now that's a little embarassing *slinks away*

teachie - December 7, 2007 07:05 AM (GMT)
Morning all, I will be back after school. There are a few books I fancy so it doesn't matter which azuki takes, I will still be happy with my choice.
