I notice that a link has appeared in one of my postings. I had typed the phrase "transferring data", and now that's a link to a book on amazon called Forest Landscape Ecology: Transferring Knowledge to Practice.

What makes me grumpy is that it's not a link that *I* put there, but to me it looks like I did! I mean, I assume it will look to other people like I did it. :angry:

I guess I don't mind if somehow links are added underneath my posting, to make it clear somehow that they're from an advertiser, but I don't like this business of messing with my own posting. It's possible this has been dealt with somewhere else - if so I'm sorry and just point me to the right place.

And if this is a necessary thing for financial reasons, well, I guess I'll put up with it, but I'd like to have stated strongly that I don't like it! :nono:

Yes, I tried out Amazon's context linking last night for reasons discussed here and here.

An unfortunate side effect is that because the script had to be added to the template for the pages, it's kicking in for all pages instead of just the Ongoing Release Dates as I wanted it to. And it's not even linking up any in the top post of the Ongoing Releases thread for reasons I don't yet understand... perhaps too many other links on that page.

In any case, it was only put in place yesterday and I was hoping to see some difference on the Ongoing Release Dates post by now, but I'm not, so I'll probably end up removing it.

In that first post I linked to, I actually mentioned that I needed to bring up here the fact that the Amazon links from the Releases thread as well as the Redirect on the Main Page has helped the site somewhat monetarily. That was something I meant to bring up here separately in the next few days anyway....
