Title: Thank Goddess for PUF Swap!
Description: Choose date and SIGN UP here

CheriePie - November 8, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
Since this is the month for giving thanks—both for the birth of your illustrious Swap Hostess and the USA's stealing of land from the Native Americans—I've integrated these sentiments into the title of this month's Paranormal & Urban Fantasy Swap.

I was also trying to decide on a start date since, due to Thanksgiving falling on the 22nd, I wasn't sure who would be around the week preceding and following. Personally, I could go either way. We do the Thanksgiving thing at my Dad's, who lives next town over. So though we'll be baking the pie and stuff the night before, and be at his house all day that Thursday, it wouldn't be too much of a hardship for me if we started the swap on the 17th and it ran into Thanksgiving. But then, I wasn't sure if others might be going away for the entire week or what and prefer it to start up the weekend following...

So I'll be incorporating a POLL into this signup post as well (just as soon as I figure out how to do it after the fact). If your participation is contingent on which date we start, just let me know in this thread and I'll make the relevant note next to your name. Poll closed, and date decided at Nov. 24th. ~CB

This will be a regular 12 hour swap. Genre is Paranormal & Urban Fantasy*.
Start date is November 24, 2007.

luckaye - November 8, 2007 01:21 AM (GMT)
Either date works for me - no Thanksgiving in AU! :D

terra57 - November 8, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
Either date for me and hopefully Lemmy will be here to celebrate Thanksgiving with me. :bananadance: We might have to fight over the puter but that's okay. Right Lemmy!

Lemonitsa - November 8, 2007 02:34 AM (GMT)
*Lemmy is probably going to be A LOT closer to Cherie Thanksgiving Week, as in... Lemmy will not be home...*

All I need is a confirm date from the parental units so I can take off from work.

But I am hoping to get this week ---> 17th to 23rd so keep your fingers crossed!!!!

cheesygiraffe - November 8, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
Either is fine for me. I'll be a maybe either way. The 17th hubby and I have a dinner to attend and the 24th is almost our Anniversary. We'll be married 13 years on the 26th. :D

PepperVL - November 8, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
From Thanksgiving Day through sometime on the 24th, I won't be available to swap.

The day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday which is  in the morning and... well there isn't a smiley that expresses my feelings about working at Target that evening (particularly since I'm NOT AVAILABLE ON FRIDAYS AND NEVER HAVE BEEN EVER AT ALL SINCE I STARTED.)

The 24th would probably be better for me, since my Mom is having her Thanksgiving on the 18th and then there's the possibility of things going into Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday if we start on the 17th, but if we schedule it for the 24th and start early, I likely won't play either.

Oh cool! I've been wanting to try to get together with Terry sometime anyway, esp before I change coasts. So perhaps I can hook up with you gals one day while the Lemmy is here! user posted image

I have a puf book & either date is fine.

macewoman - November 8, 2007 04:14 AM (GMT)
I'm in either way, but the 17th definitely works better for me. Family in town from Thanksgiving Day through Sunday. But I'm sure I can slip away and log on to keep up with the action. :D Now I just have to pick the book I'm going to use. :erm:

:woot2: Me too!!!

redhot-brat - November 8, 2007 04:33 AM (GMT)
Count me in. Whichever date you decide is fine here. We will only be gone Thanksgiving day & only for a couple hours while we visit with my M.I.L.

I have a whole bunch of new Paranormal books I can choose from. I found a ton of them $.25 - $1.00 a piece at the UBS in the Mankato Library.

I sooooo love their in-house bookstore. It's open pretty much everyday. They sell off all their discarded books and lots of donated books too. They are always in great condition (alot are brand new even) and rarely cost more then $2.00 - $3.00 max, unless they are signed or collectible ones.

I'm soooo gonna go broke there. I don't feel to guilty about it though. I can rationalize it. I'd have just bought the same books somewhere else anyway, and atleast buying them there ,the funds go to a good cause.

They use them to support the library programs/resource funds, community classes, and storytime type activities for kids. See - it's a "good thing" I am going to be buying lots of books there.

It's even cooler because they have a free paperback exchange shelf. I plan to "exchange" alot of books off it that I haven't read for AVL/tagged Bx-ing books. Then I'll tag all the new ones I got there before I take them back again. :) I love spreading the word.

rebeccaljames - November 8, 2007 05:56 AM (GMT)
Sign me up. Either day is fine with me.

teachie - November 8, 2007 06:33 AM (GMT)
Happy Thanksgiving to you all

I would prefer the 24th and being put at the end cos I am off to Prague for a few days.

Hello everyone! I know i haven't been around for ages but i've just had a few months where i just couldn't be bothered with anything. Anyway, i'm back, i'm trying to catch up with boxes & rings and i'd love to join this ring!

I'm also trying to catch up with my sending out of books, i've been really slow but they are going on Saturday *promise* And those lucky people who've been waiting for ages will get a special surprise in their parcels!

Anyway, please can i join this swap i actually have loads of books ready! :D

wss4 - November 8, 2007 11:40 AM (GMT)
Add me as well. The 24th is my best bet as Thanksgiving is being done at my house this year and if we do the 17th and it lasts into Thanksgiving I will have a very hard time getting online.

Does the book have to be about the goddess or can it be any PUF?

:ditto2:

I figured you'd want to play, and yup I would've contacted you if it was time and you hadn't seen this. But I wanted everyone's input on time due to the holiday. Even though y'all don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Europe, I wasn't sure if the English might and if you might be there at your parents or something so that only one or the other date would work.

So you're in now, with no date restrictions....

It's looking like the 24th will be better for a lot of people but I wanted to leave this poll open for another day or two just to make sure everyone has chimed in. After Saturday or so, I'll close the poll with the definite date, but leave the thread open still accepting signups. :)

LOL - I must confess I knew it was there, before we moved. If hubby had been thinking , he'd have remembered it as well.

Just as we were gone most of this summer in Duluth while he worked out of town..... We stayed a summer in Mankato (2005) while he did a job there. I must of bought a good $100 there that summer. It was that summer I fell in love with the area and we first started talking about buying around here.

It was a great summer. A good book source, awesome nature parks, plenty of family oriented things to do, and still plenty of small town area to live in, yet still only 30-40 mins to a large city area when it's needed.

They also have this great city-wide photo contest they do each year (for the last 37 years), with the winner's photo(s) ending up in their city calendar. I sent in a few submissions for it the summer we stayed here and actually won. I was shocked to find out not only had I got one of the 12 month spots, but had taken 1st place, and hence the cover shot ,as well as the month of August too.

That was so cool. As a result I got to be on TV to advertise the contest the next year AND my picture was professionaly framed (name plaque and all), and is now on permanent display in their Intergovernmental Center downtown. That was my first big "deal" with my photography. So it's still a very good memory for me. Sorry if it seems I'm bragging, I just had to share my story. I can't wat to try my hand at the contest again this year. (If you want to see the winners from 2007 or 2008 ....Mankato City Calendar)

I think that the 24th will definitely be better for me (and terra, even though she doesn't know it yet....) 'cause I'm a planin' to get her good and drunk, maybe a :whip: or 2, and well, we won't be able to get on the 'puter much.
