Title: Any interest in African Swap?

zzz - November 6, 2007 11:28 AM (GMT)
I was wondering if there would be interest in African Swap?
That’s something I’m thinking about for a long time; since we have Asian swap and Africa has such an enormous literary diversity in themes, genres, history, mythology etc as well. Also after seeing how Passport to the World VBB is going great I decided to ask you.
I was thinking that end of Nov-beginning of Dec would be nice (see ETA) and the rules for Asian swap would be applied here as well.
Anyone? (I think about 10 players minimum)

ETA:
Ok I see that Nov/Dec is quite occupied so I don't think there'll be space for this one as well. Therefore I'm asking hypothetically if there would be an interest for this swap?

teachie - November 6, 2007 11:45 AM (GMT)
I would be interested in an African literature swap.

geishabird - November 6, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
I so don't need to play in anymore swaps these days, but I absolutely love African lit so I am compelled to play in this one... :P

morsecode - November 6, 2007 02:59 PM (GMT)
Possibly :)

zzz - November 6, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
I'm glad to see there is some shy interest :)
Folks you can suggest the date if you wish.

teachie - November 6, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
How about starting beginning of December? I think November is pretty full of swaps.

candy-is-dandy - November 6, 2007 04:43 PM (GMT)
I'd be interested in this zzz.

msjoanna - November 6, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
I'm interested, though I'll have to look around to see if I currently have anything appropriate.

azuki - November 7, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
Is it a fiction or both, including memoir, travelogue and such?
I am potentially interested, and I am quite positive I have something I may use. And while you are at it, how about a double happiness on Feb 2? (I am NOT twisting your arms... okay?)

zzz - November 7, 2007 01:06 PM (GMT)
Azuki most definitively fiction and memoirs are fine; I don't know about travelogs though. It's OK with me it's just I don't think we ever had those in Asian Swap and I was thinking to apply the same rules here.
So there are nearly 10 players. nice :)

About Asian Swap date is OK with me (I have strong arms not easy for twisting!). I have more than few great books for that one!

azuki - November 8, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
And while we are at it, when is the best of 2007? You know, i have waited a year for this... the dust on my book is getting rather thick...

ETA: just saw the date Jan 7 in another thread. yay! :bananadance:

No, it's Jan 10th!
Jan 7th (where did you see it?) is impossible date for me since it's the date of the Orthodox Christmas and I will not be here in Belgrade but with my family where I don't have (or have VERY limited) internet access. I'll leave Belgrade just after New Year 2nd and will be absent until after the Christmas.

yourotherleft - November 9, 2007 01:27 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, I was thinking that I would be interested in an African swap but thinking there was no way I could play because I didn't think I had any books to offer, but in the process of building my library on LibraryThing, I think I may have found some! Just goes to show how I out of touch I am with my too large book collection. But anyhow, I'd be interested!

Looking forward to the best of 2007 swap, too! :D

zzz - November 9, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
lovely :)
We need two more...

AceofHearts - November 9, 2007 10:59 PM (GMT)
I might be interested

zzz - November 10, 2007 12:08 AM (GMT)
:woot2:

rootmartin - November 10, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
I'll play if I can use a TBR. (Though I've been naughty and I still owe you the one from the Asian swap....... it's very high on Mt. TBR though)

An African lit/memoir swap is hard for me to resist since I love African literature and was an African studies minor in college.

zzz - November 10, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)
OK 10 people we have :whee:
TBRs are allowed of course and no worries about book from Asian swap. few weeks ago I've read mine and it's still on my desk along with two other books I'm sending to msjoanna

Which date suits you best?

rootmartin - November 10, 2007 12:29 PM (GMT)
How about early December?

Jan 7th (where did you see it?)

zosime - November 16, 2007 12:00 AM (GMT)
I found a book at the used book shop today that would work for this swap, and I used that as an excuse to buy it.

:goodjob:

I really don't know what it should be scheduled? Beginning of December is so full ... maybe somewhere in the middle like 12th? Don't have a clue ...
Can you give me suggestions and I'll create sign up thread.

zosime - November 17, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
Somewhere in the middle of the month sounds great to me. I'll be out of town 12/14-17, but I'm staying with friends who will let me check in once in a while.

I'm not much help though, since I don't usually play multiple swaps at once. I don't know what else is going on at that time.

Perdue - November 17, 2007 04:25 PM (GMT)
I'm definitely interested!

zzz - November 17, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Lovely!
Ok then it'll be 12th Dec!
I'll create new sign up thread but until then you can sign up here or confirm your participation :)
(Oh I have mouthwatering book for this swap!!!)

azuki - November 18, 2007 04:25 AM (GMT)
Hmmm.... I thought this will be for Jan. I will be traveling around Dec 12, so i don't know if I will have internet access at that time or not. And I will likely not know till close by that time. So I will be a maybe for now. Though I certainly have some books I can use.

zzz - November 18, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
oh I see... Well I don't think it would be smart near the end of the year with Christmas-New Year vacations etc.
In Jan we have Best Of swap which will be no less than a week long; you said Asian Swap should be 02.02 (right after the best of). I don't know.

Perdue - November 19, 2007 12:21 PM (GMT)
Oh this gives me an excellent reason to move a couple of TBR's up on my to-read list... Can't wait for the swap, I'm almost 100% sure I'll be around keyboards!

msjoanna - November 19, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
I have a perfect book picked out...and it isn't too long, so I should be able to get it read soon after the swap if not in advance.

zzz - November 20, 2007 11:05 AM (GMT)
OK I think it's little early to create sign up thread if it'll be in the mid of Dec. Therefore I'll leave it for next week (I'll be absent for about 7 days).
In the meanwhile you can sign up/confirm/suggest definitive date/play Zulu dance/whatever here :P

azuki - November 20, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
Yeah, leave me as a maybe.
If I am in Hong Kong at the time, it would be a yes. If I will be with my husband's family in Macau, then it's a no, because it's so hard to find internet access there!!
