I'm starting a US-only ray for this book since I have an extra copy. Please pm me or post here to join.

If you ever decide to go international, I'd be interested....

Yeah, why geo restriction if it's a ray? I saw that few times and couldn't understand. Oh not that I'm against or something, I'm just curious

gringuitica - November 6, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
Yes, if it goes international, I'm in. I'm dying to read this book!

ZZZ, I know you and I had a specific conversation about this topic before. I think it must have been on the old site because I can not find the topic here. (The summary of the conversation was... I explained why I only do US-rays and you explained how used books are hard to find in your country and I offered to do an m-bag for you.) Anyway, since I can't find the old thread where I explained it, I will do so again... ;)

1. I like to continually add people to the ray. Having it be US-only means that I don't have to bother with organizing the shipping order into any specific way, especially when people join months after others. I don't have to give it any thought as to who can ship where, I can just put the new people on the end of the list.

2. I have seen too many rays/rings horribly organized geographically because of people's shipping preferences. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. If I am in a ray, I like the shipping to be as efficient as possible so that the participants aren't waiting unnecessarily. I could not (with a clear conscious) subject the participants in my rays to a poor shipping order. This wouldn't really be a problem if I refuse to add people to the ray after it has started but then I want more people join...

3. Shipping internationally is expensive. I sent a 13 ounce trade paperback book yesterday to the UK and it was $10.40. Sending it within the US costs $2.13. When I join an international ray/ring I feel guilty saying that I can only ship within the US. I won't join an international ray if no one else in the US has signed up. I don't think it is fair of me to expect people to ship a book to me from another country and then me not being willing to ship it internationally. I also don't think it is fair of me to expect someone else in the US to ship it internationally when I won't. Especially because that means that I will usually be inserted in the shipping/reading order before the generous person that is willing to ship internationally. Bottom-line, I don't want to make the participants of my rays feel guilty or hesitant about joining.

I have no problems with the book traveling internationally. If the last person of the ray wants to continue the ray internationally, that's fine. I'm just not going to be the one to organize it. Sorry. :(

Hmm, well I'm going "home" to the US for Thanksgiving, so if I were first in the ray, I could pick it up at my parents', read it, and then ship it to the next person in the ray! It might be from the States (if I read it quickly), or it could be from Costa Rica... I have no problem either way. Just a thought. (And a "please!".) :)

zzz - November 6, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
yes, yes, I remember now. Sorry, sorry

chambejd - November 6, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
No worries, zzz. Nothing to apologize about. I definitely don't mind you asking for my reasons and I don't mind explaining. I'm really not trying to exclude anyone and in this case I could put the international people in the beginning of the ray, starting with gringuitica, if you three are all willing to ship internationally, which I believe at least two of you are since there aren't really that many BC'ers in Costa Rica and Serbia!

gringuitica - November 7, 2007 02:14 AM (GMT)
Works for me!

blackteiwaz - November 8, 2007 11:47 PM (GMT)
It works for me too if you bring it here... :giggle:

I gave up long time ago. Their usual reply is "We have you!" so they are taking books from me more than from a library <_<

Now this becomes more interesting but I checked and saw it's translated in Serbian so I'll rather read in my mother tongue since I can.
(Chicas lo siento, quizas otra vez :( )

chambejd - November 9, 2007 02:04 AM (GMT)
I'll mail it off soon to gringuitica so that it gets there before Thanksgiving. Grin can mail/hand it off to blackteiwaz who can send it to breeze before it comes to the US.

gringuitica - November 9, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
Thanks chambejd, I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to reading this!

blackteiwaz - November 9, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
Perfect, thank you both! :D
(Now I have to refrain from entering any more rings and rays, I'm past my "7 at a time" limit. )
