Title: BookCrossing UK Convention 2008?
Description: April 18-20, 2008
Marlene - October 30, 2007 12:50 PM (GMT)
Hi there. I missed this year's meet up but now that Lotta told me she might also be going, I am interested.
Is there more news where it will be held in 2008?
ETA - Added by Cherie so it could be in top post:

It's not an Unconvention next year - it is The Convention!
As far as I know it is being held in London but I haven't seen any more details yet.
Marlene - October 30, 2007 01:30 PM (GMT)
Thanks Julie. Glad the book arrived by the way
What is an Unconvention anyways? I never understood.
Just thought O the Brits have to do weird.
camis - October 30, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
 Well, maybe we are weird...but the Unconvention started as the UK alternative to The Annual BC Convention which was traditionally held in the US in April (the anniversary of BC starting)
However next year The Annual BC Convention is in London and I believe there is an Unconvention somewhere in the US??

I think San Fransisco is trying to hold a North AMerican unconvention in 2008 :)

Does anyone know the date yet?
I think it's the weekend after the marathon, so either - I stay for a week and 2 weekends  ; I travel down twice in a week or I give it a miss

How far is it driving from your place? 2 hours?
You live not so far from Wales.
But can you afford to stay 9 days? (hotel)

Probably 4 hours by car but no way I'm driving in London
I'd catch the train, and it tends to be quite pricey - and no I can't really afford 9 days, so need to get my thinking cap on
teachie - November 3, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
I will be there, dunno if dh will be joining me this year or not. Will there be a LIVESWAP area this time???????? or will we just take over the place again LOL. :giggle:

This makes me want to go even more now. :whip:
Amberkatze - November 4, 2007 12:58 PM (GMT)
I would love to know the date as soon as it is fixed. I need to know well in advance otherwise I won't be able to get time off work...and it would be great to be able to come along and meet you all! Does anyone at least know what month?
I can always go visit my family too...but travelling from Wales to London...as Sunlightbub says it is a little pricey.
Will there be any 'suggested' hotels in London to use? I don't want to have to shop around and then find that the hotel I picked is miles away ;)
giz-angel - November 4, 2007 01:59 PM (GMT)
I've not heard a thing - I mean I can try and find hotels if there aren't suggested ones, but I need to know where it is.... you know what London is like it can take almost as long to across it as to get from Wales!

I know...it is hard and not knowing what exactly is planned is frustrating.
I was home in Cardiff in July and went to a Bookcrossing meet-up and some people were talking about the details but I never heard anything else
Sunlightbub - November 4, 2007 03:44 PM (GMT)
I've posted on BC to see if I can get the dates :)
Marlene - November 4, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
Good work.
Funny. The traveling for me (from another Country is cheap) it is the hotels that are the problem.

It isn't that expensive for me to fly to London either...sure the hotel will have to be cheap! However I have the problem that I would be travelling home to the UK and not visiting my family. They don't really like that

That date looks ok for me...just need some ideas/recommendations for a hotel!
Sunlightbub - November 5, 2007 06:42 PM (GMT)
Poo! I was really hoping it would be on a different date  Off to see about train prices.
Hmm, coach prices quite reasonable c. £25 return
giz-angel - November 5, 2007 07:55 PM (GMT)
I will try and see the closest travelodge but that's a REALLY expensive part of London they chose :(
ETA the nearest travelodge is Marylebone and it's currently £50 a night per room. But it's 1.6 miles away from the college. Which is SLAP next to the Royal Albert Hall to give you a landmark!
I can deffo look for cheaper options but doubt we will find much else cheaper.
teachie - November 5, 2007 07:57 PM (GMT)
Is there a tube station near? I will travel in and out on the Saturday and Sunday.

Yeah South Ken is the closest and it's close. That's South Kensington. Think it's district and circle off the top.
I can get the tube in too, and maybe if there is a group of us going we could sort out a hotel a bit away a wee bit cheaper?
camis - November 5, 2007 10:26 PM (GMT)
If there is a tube near the venue I'd be happy to stay a bit further out and travel in.
Amberkatze - November 6, 2007 10:27 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind travelling in if the hotel price is right. I still have to think things over and see if I can get time off work, flights etc but I would really love to come if I can afford it.
giz-angel - November 6, 2007 11:44 AM (GMT)
OK what do people think is a reasonable price for a hotel? Just gives me an idea what to look for. I know anyone can do the searching but I can actually go see it if necessary to check it's not a hell hole :giggle:
