I saw David Sedaris last night and he was GREAT! He read a couple of his pieces from the New Yorker, and read us parts of his diary, and a hilarious story about a professor of his, a typical old white guy, who would pronounce latin American countries and terms with a lisping spanish inflection. A bunch of us from work went and we have been cracking each other up all day just by saying "Nicaragua" the way he did last night.

He also recommended a writer I've never read, Richard Yates, especially Easter Parade. He said it was the perfect gift for the person on your list who is just too happy. He said it's excellent writing but so incredibly sad. Has anyone here read Yates? Any suggestions for the best one to start?

And his voice is exactly the same as on the radio, and he has a wonderful smile.
He also has a new book coming out soon, and he's supposed to be writing a fiction novel, but he said he got 100 pages in and the story is basically over.

I would have gotten my books signed but they've all been released..... :giggle:
