has anyone else read this book? I just picked it up and was very pleasantly surprised (as happily surprised as when I first read 'Poison Study' in fact...). The sequel is in the works (Magic Burns for April 2008 hopefully).

It is on my wishlist, but have not read it yet. Good to hear that you are enjoying it. I will also have ot add the sequel to my wishlist.

I have a copy of it but I haven't read it yet either. My friend recc'd it to me but I still wasn't sure because our tastes aren't that similar. But I loved Poison Study so maybe I'll have to pick this up!!

don't mistake me Fantasy--they're not the same (aside from both being fantasy genre at least), but it surprised me because after reading the back I was only a little bit interested (I picked it up but I wasn't sure when I'd want to read it), but then I had nothing else on me to read so I read it and devoured it XD

I'm sorry I forgot to tell you! Here's my journal entry on the subject matter! :D

Now for the actual signing stuff...

Gary was nice enough to drive me the hour and forty minutes to Lancaster for the signing. Gary is Kyle's dad. Sometimes Kyle's family makes up for Kyle's bad moments.

So we get there at about 12:50pm, roughly a hour before the signing. We went to Long Horn Steakhouse and it was a nice (fast) lunch. Then we went back to the bookstore (across the street) at about 1:30pm. Still a half hour before. I buy Magic Study and wait in the manga section so I don;t seem like a total stalker.

At about 2pm I go over to where the signing will happen, see her talking to some folks and then clam up. Luckily Gary was there otherwise I woul dhave turned tail and run. She sees me and says 'I know you. Last year right?' and I'm like 'YES!' and we talk a bit. I then tell her for completism sake I rebought Poison Study and Magic Study would she mind signing those? She says sure! And signs them again.

About halfway through her signing the books she says 'That's right your email is Lexie Cenni right?' and here's me beaming like an idiot and going 'Yep! That's me!'

So after she's done I gush about how I can't wait for book 3 and she's like 'me neither!' and then some other people come along to get their books signed and then we just have a talking fest (the 5 of us--Maria, me, the guy and his wife and the young girl). We urge her to read from Magic Study and then hound the Borders people to set up an area she can.

So we sit down and we have an impromptu Q and A. All my questions fly out the window of course, but she answers several I didn't know th eanswer to!

Q: Who's the protag of the 4th books?
A: Someone you met in Book 2 very briefly. Tula's sister Opal.

Q: What will be the titles?
A: Well I wanted to get away from the 'Study' titles since this is an all new protag and she has a new storyline to follow. The first book will be 'Storm Glass' and the second 'Sea Glass'. Not sure about three yet--I wanted 'Stained Glass' but that apparently has bad conotations ::shrugs::

Q: When will the fourth book be out?
A: Its written pretty much, next year. I'm also working on a young adult science fiction series for 2009.

Those are just the questions I didn't know. The guy also asked if Valek would appear in Magic Study (I was the only one of the fans who had read it already I guess).

Then she read a couple chapters from th ebeginning of Magic Study--The chapters when Leif and Yelena are walking through the forest right before the ambush. She did it SO WELL. I was enthralled XD

Afterwards we all talked some more and I mentioned how long I had driven. She then told me that I was her favorite person XD I was on cloud nine. I got a couple pictures with her (at which time she remembered where I had met her before) and told me that she'd be at next year's Book Expo. So I guess Anime Expo is out so I can go to the Book Expo in Los Angeles guys :D

Also she said that ARC's of Fire Study should be going out within the next two months to reviewers, so guess what? I'm gonna hunt ebay for those two months.

She liked my keychain I made for her! She said it was the sweetest thing anyone ever gave her :D

Other then that me and Gary left early so he could make an appointment. I heard her explaining to those still there that I had come so far :D It made me SO HAPPY.

That's awesome Lex! I'm way too shy to even want to try to meet anyone I admire, too afraid I'll just completely embarass myself! :blush: I'm not the most graceful in social situations, being an introvert, I tend to do the nervous talking, or not be able to think of ANYTHING to say!

Magic Bites....now this keeps popping up on my amazon recommendations...but I am sure I have it here or it is coming to me from somewhere... :shrug:

Thanks for posting the news about Synder! I had read an arc of Magic Study waaaay before it actually came out so when you said you were one of the only one's who had read it, I was like huh? lol. I'll have to see if I can get an arc of Fire Study! Also, since you have a rapport with her, I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you asked her for an arc directly if you promised to review it on your blog or something. The worst she can say is no, right?!

fantasy--I was rather surprised as well when Maria asked how many of us had read Magic Study. I mean there was only 5 'fans' there with myself included, and 2 'drivers', but I guess the other ones were just new fans or something.

i was REALLY surprised when that guy asked if Valek was in the second book. I was like 'whaa??' and didn't want to ruin it for him.

It took every ounce of courage I had to approach her in the first place! last year, when my boyfriend took me just after Magic Study's release, I literally stood in front of the store for a half hour before my boyfriend came back and pushed me at the table. it barely even registered on me that I was meeting her and that I needed to hand over my books to be signed (I had them in a death grip in my arms).

I'm hoping the 3rd time is the charm and I remember my questions!

Fantasy's right, if Maria knows your name & email address (!), she's gotta know you're a HUGE fan, don't be shy ... email her and ask for an ARC!

You might tell her that you post about her books and signings regularly on the book boards you frequent, and would post about future ARC's as well! You are a one woman publicity team for Maria!

In fact, you might ask Maria for a copy of ALL her future ARC's, so that you can help spread the word about her books!
