Title: Paperback book swap

This is one of those chain letter type book swaps! If anyone wants to play let me know! It's always fun for me to see what kind of books I recieve.

I am sure to always mail out a book that I enjoyed reading!

Here is a copy of the letter I received!

PAPERBACK BOOK SWAP

Welcome to our Paperback book swap. It's just for fun. Please send a used paperback to the first name on the list. Then redo the list by doing the following:

1. Remove the name at #1
2. Move the name in #2 position to position #1
3. Write your name and address in position #2

There should only be 2 names on the list at one time. Send a copy of the new letter to 6 of your friends who enjoy reading.

You should receive 36 books in return. It will be fun to see where they come from and to what type of book you are introduced.

If the books you receive are registered with bookcrossing (www.bookcrossing.com) please go online and journal them. (You'll know if there is a BCID number written in the book). If you're not a member of bookcrossing and you enjoy reading, you might want to think about joining.

Again, this is all for fun. Don't feel obliged to take part. If you don't, though, it would be nice if you could either pass it on to someone who is interested, or let me know and give me the chance to send this to someone else.

Thanks and enjoy!

Um... I hate to say this, but... these don't work, and could be illegal. I'm not certain since it involves books, not money, but ones with money are illegal.

It's a pyramid scheme and it's impossible for it to work. There just aren't enough people in the world.

Here's how many people it would get sent to at each level... and why it can't work.

Level 1 - 6 people
Level 2 - 36 people
Level 3 - 216 people
Level 4 - 1,296 people
Level 5 - 7,776 people
Level 6 - 46,656 people
Level 7 - 279,936 people
Level 8 - 1,679,616 people
Level 9 - 10,077,696 people
Level 10 - 60,466,176 people
Level 11 - 362,797,056 - greater than the population of the United States - currently 302,871,332)
Level 12 - 2,176,782,336 - greater than the population of the People's Republic of China - currenlty 1,320,638,353
Level 13 - 13,060,694,016 - greater than the population of the world - currently 6,671,226,000

As you can see, you rapidly run out of people, and no one who doesn't get in very early on has even a chance of getting their 6 books.

Of course, some people may just enjoy sending books out, but... I'd be careful. Since it's not actually money being sent, and a paperback book is a very low-value item, it's PROBABLY not something that anyone would prosecute for, however, the USPS is very not-cool with people using them to commit fraud (which is exactly what a pyramid scheme is...)
