Title: Do you ever check-up on bookcrossed books...
Description: while browsing/maintaining your shelf?

JessicaEby - September 17, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
And if so, does it drive you absolutely crazy when other bookcrossers don't journal books that were sent to them? There are two books in particular on my shelf that I get irritated by every time I pass by them... one was sent to another bookcrosser (who I know received the book) but never journalled.... the other was sent out and journalled.... but it says in the journal it was put into a bookbox (which has since finished its rounds) about 2 years ago... and the book has not been heard from since. ARGH, the frustration!

This bothers me too. (I know I need to let it go) I don't understand folks who are regular, active bxers not journaling books. WTF??? :swear:

dancing-dog - September 17, 2007 03:38 PM (GMT)
Yes, I sometimes check but try not to get too bothered by this kind of thing.

I know there are some bookcrossers who don't journal until after they have read the book, not when they receive or take it.

Well, I sent Sand a PM on Friday asking her to journal a few books I know she has...

Usually, I follow up once under the pretext of "Did you actually get this?" If I don't get a response, or they still don't journal, I make sure the book is marked as traveling and that info on when & how it was sent appears in the last journal entry. I also put arrival info if I have it due to DC or the like.

Nah doesn't bother me. It use to but I learned to let it go. I hope they get the book after I've sent it and if they don't I hope the PM me to tell. Not much else I can do.

I think I have too many books going to worry about it.

blackteiwaz - September 17, 2007 04:58 PM (GMT)
I hate when someone takes the time to write an e-mail about having received the book, and saying that they will journal soon, but they never do. I mean, if they took the time to write the e-mail, why can't they make a journal entry instead?

I used to get really annoyed. I sent a few pms to people out of the several I sent, 2 were really happy that I sent it and JE'd right away, 2 were really rude to me, and didn't journal, and the others never responded and never journalled.

There are so many other things in life to get worked up over... LOL...

But yes... especially if it's a book I really really enjoyed, I'll remember it and check up on it. It does bug me - fleetingly - when I see it hasn't been journaled, but usually it worries me more than anything I worry it got lost in the mail or something.

Tribefan - September 17, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
It use to really bother me, but not anymore!

SimplyCee - September 17, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
It bothers me when books aren't journaled just because I have no idea if it got there or not. Once it's journaled and I know the person has it, it doesn't matter what happens to it after that.

I try to explain that to some of the people I pmed too and nothing happened when I wrote that.

:ditto:

If they just let me know they've received it then I don't worry about it any more. Not like I can do anything about it even if it is annoying. :angry2: Not very likely to send books to that person again either.

No, it doesn't bother me but I enjoy getting the PMs when people do read the books and write what they think.

apolonia - October 9, 2007 06:06 AM (GMT)
I guess I'm in the minority here cause I couldn't care less. I try really hard to remember to journal a book right away when I get one from someone else cause I know that upsets a lot of people. I'm sure I've missed a few though.

ladiibbug - October 12, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
Once a year or so I go thru my TRAVELING shelf and send a polite PM to B/C'rs who haven't JE'd the book as rec'd.

About 1/2 the people say "Oh, geez, I totally forgot" and immed. JE the book, and about 1/2 I never hear from, so then I let it go.

I feel that it is common courtesy to journal a book that someone has sent to you. I don't care if all you type is 'arrived'. It is just polite to let someone know that you got it. I realize that life gets in the way, but when it becomes a habit for folks not to journal it is annoying. I always try to journal my books as soon as I can after they arrive. I feel bad if I don't.

After that, it does not matter. I just want to know that the book arrived. lol

As for checking up, no, I don't. Simply because I do not have the time and I figure if someone has not bothered to journal then they probably won't even if I contact them.
