Title: Science Fiction & Fantasy Bookbox Round 9
Description: Confirm, Chat, & Play!
PepperVL - September 12, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
Welcome to Round 9 of the Fantasy and Science Fiction VBB!NO BANANAS IN THIS BOX!!!!!!!!!! :PStarting this round, if you have not mailed out all books owed from more than 4 rounds ago – rounds 1-4 – please do not remove any new books from the box. Books owed for 4 rounds or fewer, waiting with M-bag organizers, or books for which other arrangements have been made between sender & receiver will not count against this.Turn Time Limit Rules: (Stolen from the Paranormal VBB)
- Turn time is 2 full days, so 48 hours from the time the update listing the player's turn is posted.
- If two days is a problem for you (i.e. you can't get online during the weekends, or will be on a trip, etc.) please let me know so that I can put a note by your name and allow you extra time.
- If the full 48 hours has passed with no word from the player, the next player will go, and the missing player will be moved down 1 space. We will do this 3 times, but without the 2 day time limit each time. A player skipped in this way will only have the time it takes for the next three people to take their turns to check in before being dropped to the bottom of the list (this is all if we have not heard from the player). It will look like this: 2 days, skip, skip, skip, bottom. If a player is skipped in this way and/or placed at the bottom, that spot will become their new permanent spot until the list is reshuffled.
- The Box Organizer will be the time keeper and determine a skip or bottom placement.
- New players will be accepted during play and added to the bottom of the list.
On Your Turn:- Select the number of books that you want to take out of the box and list them in your post.
- Replace those with the same number of books (or more if you like) and link to the journal entries for your book(s).
- If any of your books have "**" in front of them, you MUST replace them when your turn comes up.
- If you decide to skip, you have the option to ask to be placed at the bottom of the list for another try. If you do this, that will become your new permanent spot until the list is reshuffled. (Reshuffling will happen after every 2 rounds.)
- If you are willing and able to do the update, please do so. Before posting, verify that you've (1) listed your move in the Moves section, (2) added to the list of books the ones you're putting in, (3) removed from the list of books the ones you're taking out or replacing, and (4) listed the books you're taking out in the Books Out of Play section at the bottom, indicating they are going to you. (This is all fairly easy to do with cut and paste so long as you remember all the steps.) If you're new, don't worry about doing updates just yet!
Books in the box with ** in front should be replaced this round, on your turn, thanks!Krin! Step through that misty veil! What fantastic world do you want to explore? Moves:The Player List:(Last shuffled round 8, will shuffle again round 10)

nimrodiel - September 12, 2007 02:54 PM (GMT)
I'm asking to be skipped this round as I'm feelinga bit overwhelmed with mailings needing to be caught up on.
However, I didn't realize the Year of the Quiet Sun was still in the box (I thought I had put a different book in for some reason) and it has gone out to a bookmoocher.
Could one of you kind update mavens replace it with Sister Light, Sister Dark and White Jenna by Jane Yolen (I'de like these two to go out together)

Well, that's 8 out of 25 people who have confirmed they'd like it monthly.
I'd like to get at least 13 before I switch it over...
Anyone else have a preference on the issue?
Maybe I should put up a poll...

Monthly.
Having to remember to hang on books that are in boxes for months on end is hard, I'd prefer a quicker turnover. People can always pass.
Can whoever does the next update change my Deathlands book to say Book 2 instead of Book 1. I obviously wasn't paying attention. :)

Oh heavens, i'm going to have to say can you move me down a little, i'm away for a little while so i can't really check my available books. I'm sorry to be so flakey but i've been busy packing for going away and haven't really taken much notice of anything else :(
I know i have one book that needs changing and i'll do it as soon as i get back (beginning of october).

*sigh* If we do it monthly, eventually I'm going to have to drop out. I won't be able to keep up with it.

Since I'n not taking part this round, could some one please replace The Year of the Quiet Sun (last entry on the in one round list), with Sister Light, Sister Dark/White Jenna by Jane Yolen?
I set the first book free through bookmooch not realizing I had added it here last round.

Welcome to Round 9 of the Fantasy and Science Fiction VBB![/font]
NO BANANAS IN THIS BOX!!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting really frustrated with this box since nobody wants any of the books I've offered. I think it's been at least five or six offerings with no takers. I'm running out of options here.
Is there something I'm missing, or is it that this is really a fantasy box and I mostly read/offer sci-fi?

It's Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but I know a lot of people are very much in favor of one or the other, and I think a lot of us prefer fantasy. I'm fairly sure there are other people who prefer Sci-Fi than just you, though...

Well, if it goes monthly, you wouldn't have to participate every month... you could always skip.
However, we've had a lot of skips in the past few rounds, so I don't know if going monthly is the best, though I'd be happy to do so.
I was thinking maybe every 6 weeks would be a compromise, but that would be HARD for me to keep track of when we're supposed to start.
So I don't know.

I'm personally more of a fantasy reader, but I do read the occasional SF (as long as it's not hard SF and is very character-driven).
I think we brought up the lack of SF a while back and I noticed more people started putting it in (myself included), but it wasn't being taken out as often (I remember having to replace several books).
The issue I'm having is that there are great books in the box -- I know because I've read them already (and have many still in my PC, like the Robin Hobb book and the Avalon books that were just put in). Of course, this also happens to me with the Paranormal box - I guess I read too much. *grin*
That goes away from the SF vs. fantasy part, so I'll get back to it. I think that the trend does seem to lean more toward fantasy, but I personally wouldn't want to see this become a fantasy only box.
