Title: What are the chances???
Description: Some may find this confusing ;)

So I was just sorting out my bookshelf for the 'So good you have to steal it' swap when I came across a little puzzle.
I found a book on my bookshelf marked as TBR that I was really sure I released. I looked everywhere and couldn't find the book. So I decide I must have forgotten make the release notes.
Although I still don't get it! The person I passed this book on to is so reliable. I am really sure she would have made a journal entry. So I release the book with a note saying that I know the book isn't with me anymore but I know I must have released it -
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/4699064So why am I posting this? Well looking on the next page of my bookshelf I noticed another copy of the same book! Huh??? Now I am confused. Did I register it twice? No it is registered by someone else and is set tbr by my friend! -
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/469964So now I am really confused...how did that happen? Well looking at the BCID numbers I realised. And if you look yourselves at the numbers in the links you will also see what happened.
So what are the chances of me typing in a BCID number to release a book, typing the number in wrong but still getting the book I want to release?
I have typed in wrong BCID numbers on many occasions and have always got error messages. This time not only did I type it wrong and get no error message but I got a copy of the same book I wanted to release!
Spooky!!!!

I think it's because of the prenumbered label thingy. You have mistyped the BCID and it's coincidently been a prenumbered label, where the bcer hasn't put in the bookdetails..you could have then put in the ISBN and there you go two books with similar bcid's which are actually one book
I know what I mean - does anyone else?

I think Sunny's right.
I think you must have mistyped the BCID for the second copy of the book, but then found that the original person hadn't put in any information, so you put the details of the "wrong" book (i.e., the one that had the other, similar, number).
So it goes...

OH NO!!!! Laughing really hard...even though I know I shouldn't.. I was just thinking about how they might have been pre-numbered ID's. Then Amber putting in the wrong # with a typo. So when the person who has that sticker goes to fill in the information................imagine the look on their face.

it might be a bug in bc--it says i have about 3 or 4 copies of ruthless.com and i only have one. i've tried to delete the other 3 about four times. finally gave up on that.
i've had other problems on other days w/b'xing as well.

musie, just FYI, there are 2 ways to delete books on BC, and I've found lots of times that if one way doesn't work the other method will.
Delete method #1: Click on a book, and click the "delete book" link under the description.
Delete method #2: Click on a book, and click the "edit book details" link under the description. On the Edit Book Details screen, press the "Delete" button.

Or, if it's books registered by you, you can just re-use the BCID by editing the book details to make it a different book and write the old number into the new book.
