Title: Help me to pick out a book please

Marlene - August 9, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
I do have a lot of books registered by others on my shelf.

With the exception of
Cry to heaven
The Angel of Darkness, San Francisco,
Crazy for Love and the Innocent, all of the other books were registered by others.

Can you advice me please which book I should pick next?

I just finished Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult and I am looking for a book that immediately grabs me.

I have added a variety of genres and you can pick out 2. (If I did it right that is  )

Thanks in advance :)

Voted for The Dark Queen. Though I've not read it, I've enjoyed Susan Carrolls stuff in the past.

I picked Angry Housewives Eating Bon-Bons - it's the only one I've read on that list. It's fun and you grow to love the characters.

Thanks guys. More opinions please?

Why did you? chose Cry to heaven. Is it very good?

and the same with Cane River. both have 1 vote. :)

But I wanted to pick 4!

Okay, I chose Cry to Heaven and Sarum, because I've read those two. I really liked Cry to Heaven, but then I read it during my crazy for Anne Rice phase. Sarum was LONG, but interesting, following a couple lines of people down through history in a certain area of the world.

The other two I would have picked, were The Dark Queen and The Innocent, because darn it, I have them, and I'd really like to get around to reading them someday! LOL!

I picked the first 2. I really liked them both. :D

I really liked Angry Housewives too.

I picked two: one I've read (Girl, Interrupted) and one I've read books by that author but not the one you have on your list (Nicholas Sparks).

I picked Angry Housewives. I loved it so much it made me read ALL of Lorna Landvik's other books! They are all fantastic though I loved Patty Jane's House of Curl best of all. :D

I voted for Cane River simply beacause that's the next one I plan to read myself.

Ditto!

Well, I'm in the minority to say this, but I hated Angry Housewives! It was too sappy for my tastes, and it turned me off wanting to read any other Lorna Landvik, though I do have a few other books by her and might still read them... I don't like to rule out an author based on one book...

Anyway, I voted for Cane River and Sarum - both of which I loved!! Sarum is long, but very interesting. Both books really drew me in and I didn't want to put them down! You have a lot of great sounding books on that list!!

It's SO good to see you back here, girl!!! I've missed ya!!

Wow.Thank you so much! This does help a lot.

I am reading The Innocent right now. I feel it is more Historical Romance then what my normal read is Historical Fiction, but It is oke so far.

It seems The Lorna Landvik book will be next. I will give it a try.

I must admit i did read the first 3 chapters of Sarum but then I quit. It was because I had just gotten to know the characters in the book and suddenly the next chapter involved a few generations later.

But My mom read it and she told me it was great, so I have to give this another try as well.

Cane River did get some votes so that will be also on my August september list.
I just want to read some older books that were given to me by other BCers.

By the way, did anyone read Jewel? I bought it years ago but never read it.

O and Cry for Heaven. I read the first few pages and really liked the way it was written. I've never read anything by Anne Rice although I do have some of her first Vampire books.

O and I have never read anything by Nicolas Sparks before.
Thanks for the input.

I voted for Cry to Heaven because that is the only one on that list I've read, but I loved it! :D

I picked Angry Housewives and Cry to Heaven too.
I didn't realize Angry Housewives is so popular! At first I was turned off about reading about a bunch of housewives but as my BCer friend highly recommended it I read on a bit and really love it.
The "branch of olive" part simply cracked me up!! Still do whenever I think of that scene.

And Cry to Heaven is pretty good among Rice's books too.

OMG. It seems we have a clear winner here.
I am going to do this more often if that is oke with you all (Don't I sound like a Southerner  ) y'all.

I am reading the trilogy written by Posie Graeme-Evans. I am now reading book 2 and nearly finished, but afterwards I am going to pick your choice.

Thanks for the input.

O by the way, I noticed when i was visiting a bookstore that There is another book written by the author of Cane River. This time it is the story of her father's past.

Hi Marlene, Yes I read the Red River book for Armchair Interviews and I really liked it. I have not read Cane river, so I'm not sure how it compares to the first one, but i definitely recommend Red River.
