yeah I was thinking the same (but I thought this must have something with B-Day exchange group, or not?)

Happy B-Day Amber aus der schönen blauen Donau (only little downstream)

Please don't turn my birthday post to my birthday partner
into a bookcrossing-like debate over where things should
be posted.

Amberkatze - July 31, 2007 01:21 PM (GMT)
Thank you guys!!! I can't believe I have found two bday topics just for me!!!

I was going to just ignore your comment, but it kept coming back to me because of the snarky BookCrossing comment.

I just wanted to say that I see absolutely no debate here. I only talked about moving it, which I have every right to do, because it has nothing at all to do with an Exchange of books or other goodies. But decided to just leave it be since a separate thread was started over in Chit Chat where it rightfully belongs.

Rannie, I know you're not a newbie, but as Mods and Admins, we like to point out these things so that the newbies don't follow suit. Happy Birthday notes have always been posted in Chit Chat and that's where we'd like them to continue to be posted. If I didn't comment on it, I was afraid that others may soon follow suit. So I'm sorry I had to make that statement with your post, but it had to be done by one of us. Might as well be me being the bad guy.

Drop just a bit down the same forum and you'll see another
birthday message poster you didn't feel the need to correct, so yes,
I was upset that you chose to comment on mine. I simply posted
where I had seen a previous birthday message a couple of days before.

Lest I be accused again of being snarky, I'll just say what I feel.
This isn't fun anymore. I'm moving on.

I don't want to get into an arguement here but feel I have to say something.

Rannie was one of my Birthday Exchange partners. So why shouldn't she post here in the Exchange part of the forum?

Rannie was one of my Birthday Exchange partners.  So why shouldn't she post here in the Exchange part of the forum?

That's why I didn't move the thread over to Chit Chat in the first place. BUT we'd prefer to see the usual Happy Birthday threads (you'll notice most people get one on their special day) take place in Chit Chat since Birthday wishes aren't really related to a gift/book exchange. By Rannie starting the thread here it looked to everyone else, including myself and zzz who replied, like a Birthday thread for everyone to leave birthday greetings.

With your reasoning though, if it's okay for Birthday Exchange partners to post Happy Birthday threads here, then it would stand to reason that Holiday wishes could go here as well when it's time for the Holiday exchanges. Can you see where this is leading? Where do we draw the line?

As the description for this forum says, this forum is for "Monthly Exchanges, Birthday Exchange, Sweepstakes, and any other random book and/or gift exchanges." In order to keep things easier to find for everyone, only the threads related to the exchanges go in here.

Unfortunately, Rannie took offense because I pointed this out, but I also felt that with all the newcomers we've had in the last several months, it's important to do so. She even admitted she posted because she saw someone else do it before. If we want to lead by example we have to guide others at the same time. There were not any insults, squabbling, or debates. Simply the first question of my post was, "Did you mean for this to go in Chit Chat??" So I don't understand why this has become such a big deal when all I did was simply make a simple statement to let people know this kind of stuff should ordinarily go in Chit Chat.

I totally understand Cherie. I just wanted to make sure how I saw it and maybe even how Rannie saw it.

I moderate forums myself and know how things work. However I can see why Rannie could have got upset, especially with how people react over on BC.com and maybe being used to how people are 'over there'.

Maybe in these kind of instances a pm would have been advisable. The thread could have been locked or deleted and explained behind the scenes instead of in the open. No one likes to be singled out.

Don't want to start a 'thing' here but I can totally understand how Rannie could have misunderstood your comment.

CheriePie - August 1, 2007 09:41 PM (GMT)
 Thanks! I did PM her privately anyway because I didn't mean for her to feel singled out in the least. I hope she accepts my apology, but I do stand behind what I did. I'm only sorry it caused her distress.

And I hear ya on the BC forums. We so don't want to be compared to them which is why I tried not to be nasty and mean and say (puts on best bitchy voice), "This kind of thing needs to go in the Chit Chat forum. You should know better!"

Now that is how I imagine you'd be reprimanded over there! LOL
