Title: How often do you update your wishlist?
Description: Just curious
apolonia - July 24, 2007 04:57 PM (GMT)
I just went through my wishlist and found 11 books I have. Some I just got this week but some I have had for awhile. How often do you update? Or is everyone much more organized than me and deletes a wish as soon as they recieve the book?
wss4 - July 24, 2007 05:09 PM (GMT)
I usually delete a books within a day or two of getting them. Of course I am adding new books almost daily to it, so I am not really making much progress as far as size. But it is usually pretty up to date.
EllyMae58 - July 24, 2007 05:12 PM (GMT)
I update pretty regularly. If I'm expecting a book, like from PBS or whatever, I will add a "pending from" note. I also will delete a book from the list as soon as I have it.
I haven't added any wishes to my list there in a while. I tend to add everything to my Amazon list.
shaunesay - July 24, 2007 05:13 PM (GMT)
not often enough... in fact I'm thinking of blasting it away and starting over! LOL!
blackteiwaz - July 24, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
I do update it often. I erase books as soon as I get them, add (pending) or (p) next to the ones I'm expecting and add new ones if I find reviews I like on Amazon, BookMooch or from swaps here.
dancing-dog - July 24, 2007 05:36 PM (GMT)
Very regularly - if it's not current, it's useless.
Tribefan - July 24, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
I try to delete the day I receive a book... :D
cheesygiraffe - July 24, 2007 05:38 PM (GMT)
I try to remember to update it every time I get a book in the mail. Although I usually forget to do that. I just updated mine yesterday though.

:ditto2:
I tend to add books after swaps when I've seen some more good books!
karendawn - July 24, 2007 07:31 PM (GMT)
When a wishlist book is coming to me, I write the "pending" note next to the title (though I do sometimes forget this). Then as soon as I have the book in hand, I go through a 5-step process:
1. Journal the book
2. Remove it from my Cliff's wishlist
3. Remove it from my PBS wishlist (and usually move another one over from my reminder list since I'm always pushing 200)
4. Remove it from my amazon wishlist
5. Add it to my list of TBR books on my website
I want to make sure I'm always as up to date as possible.
AlterEgoZoe - July 24, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
I usually update it very regularly, sometimes multiple times a week, but usually if I get a book that's on my list so I delete it when I receive it.
((In fact, I'm updating it right now! ))
noumena12 - July 24, 2007 08:08 PM (GMT)
Not often enough probably

Wow thats a lot of steps! I think the most steps online that I do is when I finish a book. I journal it, update my bookcrossing page and update my goal on 43things.
Sunlightbub - July 24, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
I usually update Cliff's when I receive a book, but some do sometimes slip through the net!
zzz - July 24, 2007 08:47 PM (GMT)
I'm quite regular there at cliffs. Whenever I receive book I'm deleting it from the list and often browsing through it and erasing titles I'm no longer interested in. And I'm regularly adding new ones
morsecode - July 24, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
I try to update my list at Cliff's as soon as I receive a book or find out that I will be receiving one (I'll mark the book as pending),
but like everyone else, sometimes I forget
EllyMae58 - July 24, 2007 09:11 PM (GMT)
Recently, I received a surprise "wish list" book. I actually already had the book, so I figured I had forgotten to delete it from my Cliff's wish list. I went to do just that, and the book wasn't there. Go figure.
nvangel2073 - July 24, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
I try and update when I get new books are yard sales.

Same thing happened to me today. I received The Testament of Gideon Mack which WAS on my wishlist but that's the book I received as a May Day Secret Exchange and therefore I'm 100% sure that I erased book from the WL the same day, May 1st.
plus I don't have a clue who is the sender
Xeyra - July 24, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
I used to update it far more often than I do now. I haven't added many new books to it yet but I do clean it out with some regularity. Of course, sometimes I miss some books and that's when I get completely surprise RABCks of books I already have (*sheepish look*).
AceofHearts - July 24, 2007 10:22 PM (GMT)
I try to update as soon as I receive the book or I know it is on the way

And I've learned to mark books as pending when I have ordered them from Amazon, when I bought them at the store, when I join a ring/ray. :)
meshe - July 24, 2007 10:43 PM (GMT)
I update real regularly also. Of course, sometimes I miss things, but I like to keep my Cliff's wishlist as up to date as possible.
CdnBlueRose - July 24, 2007 10:51 PM (GMT)
I keep mine fairly up-to-date too.

Yup, that'd be me and my OCD.
Everytime I receive something in, I remove it from my wishlists at Cliffs, BM, PBS, TT, and FR, as well as add it to my (local) inventory on BookCollector.
I used to also add it to my LibraryThing inventory as well, but I haven't been as good at keeping that one up-to-date as it's just too much work with all the stuff coming in lately. :(
PepperVL - July 24, 2007 11:39 PM (GMT)
I keep mine pretty up to date, though sometimes my Amazon one lags behind. However, I ALWAYS delete the PC books of there as soon as I get it for my PC... and sometimes books are on the Amazon list and not Cliff's 'cause I want them for my PC, not through BookCrossing. (Meaning that I don't want them stamped and stickered up and I want people to be aware that I will be keeping the book... not that I don't want it from another BC'er.)
krin511 - July 24, 2007 11:57 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty good about keeping my wishlist current on Cliff's. Every so often I clean out the wishlists on other sites (PBS, TT, FR, BM) but since none of them are on autorequest, I'm in no hurry to keep them up to date.
caligula03 - July 25, 2007 12:28 AM (GMT)
I update it almost daily.
Breeze - July 25, 2007 12:37 AM (GMT)
I try to do it regularly....Often I scan through and find a couple I need to delete or make a note beside. I'm the September Inkling so maybe I should be more vigilant until then! :D

Boy do I feel like a slacker. I did update my BookMooch wish list yesterday when I did Cliff's. PBS is usually pretty up to date. Amazon is so NOT up to date. I don't know why I keep it. TT and FR I hardly ever use so they aren't up to date either.

I have considered dropping TT from my list simply because (1) they're a pain in the ass to keep up to date. After you delete something, it goes back to the 1st page all the time, and you can't easily get back to like page 15 without a bunch of clicks unless you first copy the URL to your clipboard. (2) you only get 1 point for International trades instead of more like you do on BM.
FrugalReader on the other hand, with it's smaller membership, has sometimes been great for some harder to find stuff, and my books are sometimes requested there if I list them if they've sit for months on BM and PBS (I don't find myself listing on TT anymore really).
Anyway, I know you didn't ask, but I just figured I'd update ya with my own impressions on those 2 trading sites.
camis - July 25, 2007 07:16 AM (GMT)
I've never bothered putting a wishlist on BoookMooch - I just use Cliffs.
KathyB - July 25, 2007 11:47 AM (GMT)
I just use Bookmooch and add books to it when I find new things I want. My list there is around 400 books, lol. A lot are unabridged audios I will probably never get, but it's worth a shot. I might get lucky. I have a list on Cliffs but it seems rather overkill to have two lists so I've been thinking about deleting it. I have one on PBS but only because I have so many points over there to use. I've been sending a lot of those points over to SwapaCD to get music with.
azuki - July 25, 2007 12:34 PM (GMT)
For me, the Cliff list is the most up-to-date and most complete. BM and PBS are for books I want enough to trade for. I don't know how you guys have so many credits but I feel rich when I have over 10 points. So for books I want to read but I know I can likely trade on BC or borrow from library, it's only on Cliff.
CongestedChi - July 25, 2007 02:08 PM (GMT)
I have been keeping my Cliff's caught up - but I do add more than I take off.
I don't always mark pending titles, but have been thinking I should...
I dont keep Amazon as up to date, but since my lists are not identical, I don't think I have gotten any books that are still on my Amazon list yet.. It is just so easy when I am browsing through books to add ones that look good to that one :D
lexilewords - July 26, 2007 01:14 AM (GMT)
let's see...since my wishlist is my amazon list, I tend to weed through it at least once a week if not more often. pretty much if I buy a book, receive a book or decide to skip a book that looked interesting 6 months ago I go to amazon.
then also when I have a spare moment I tend to ADD to the wishlist as well. pretty much the formula is this: x-y+z=xx (x= current total, y=amount of books i am taking off, z=the books I am adding, xx=the new total).
also for me Cliff's just won't work. I thought at first it was going to spam, but even though it says i'm registered...i never received a confirmation email. i've tried to have it resent twice. but it would only list the same books as those I want on my Amazon wishlist anyhow...

I keep Cliff's pretty up to date. I have really curtailed my book buying other than the 2x a year library sale and an occassional bookcloseouts purchase when I am buying something for an exchange partner. Because I do participate in just about every exchange that comes along and belong to Reading Divas and Chapters groups I try to keep Cliff as up to date as possible. I think I add something to it just about every week. (Why are there so many good books out there? I will never get to read them all.)
I also keep an Amazon list with has lot of other stuff besides books. I am constantly adding things over there too but only scan it to remove items once every couple of months.
alsgal - July 26, 2007 02:57 PM (GMT)
I just keep a list on Cliff's site and I try to keep it pretty up to date. However, I do occassionally find something on there I should have deleted.
kislany - July 31, 2007 11:01 AM (GMT)
I stopped updating the Cliff's one, too tedious after the Bookmooch one is SOOO very easy to update! I merely added a note on the Cliff's pointing to my wishlist at BM.
Daelith - July 31, 2007 02:18 PM (GMT)
I've only got the one with Cliff and I keep it pretty much up-to-date.
