Title: Let's see your To Be Read pile... show us!
Description: been a while since we did this...

candieb - July 7, 2007 04:39 AM (GMT)
C'mon... let's see it...

Ignore the messy kid's games stacked around there... I'm trying to keep that lower left shelf for books that I need to "read soon" -- I'd like to open up a whole other shelf, but well... LOL. None are double stacked, so I think I'm doing okay. And I just realized today that what I thought was a "thick shelf" is actually 3 shelves stacked together so now I just gotta find some shelf clips and I can organize those MMP better over there. I'm doing a pretty good job of keeping them looking okay. DH's side is a HUGE freaking mess. I'll take a picture of his tomorrow.

Candy has Cooties! :lmao: I couldn't resist sorry. :giggle: Or am I hallucinating? I thought one of the kids' games was Cooties.
I don't have a working camera right now. My books here are all in my closet except all of my Agatha Christie's which are in a BIG storage box. The rest are still on shelves at the old place.

freelunch - July 7, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
mine are catalogued here at librarything.com (currently totaling 1611) but I can't easily take a photo as they're in stacks all over the house since my bookshelves overflowed many moons ago.

cheesygiraffe - July 7, 2007 05:15 AM (GMT)
You can take several pictures Free. I know SandDanz has more that and took several pictures herself. :giggle:

candieb - July 7, 2007 05:53 AM (GMT)
But that's the best part, freelunch! I get to feel better about my pile when I see the photos! Hehehe...

And here's Tom's (can't sleep)

user posted image

The bottom 2 shelves are kid's books. The 2nd from the bottom left are mostly photo albums. He has a small 2 shelf thing in his "man cave", which I'm scared to go in, I'm pretty sure it's growing things at this point. He cleaned it up a bit, usually it's really messy. And the kid's books... they are constantly pulling books down, all day long. They never get put away properly.

CheriePie - July 7, 2007 06:29 AM (GMT)
I don't have a pic of mine currently cuz like free, they're scattered in boxes around the house. there are some cases too, but those are all full... and many with like my witchy and techie texts, stuff that isn't even registered on BC, a box of to-be-registered books that's next to the couch here that I do a few whenever I can (and a bigger box of TBReg in the living room), this where i'm usually computer-ing being the "family room"... smaller, less formal, and is the official home of the rest of my furry family. :P user posted image

Oh, but as I meant to say this in the "I Might Be the Wiener" thread anyway, if it turns out I am the Wiener, then Mike already admitted that getting all those books in would be just the "kick in the pants" :booty: he needs to finish my bookshelf he once started to build.

freelunch - July 7, 2007 12:54 PM (GMT)
OK, here's a stack beside my computer desk (plastic crate beneath stack is also full of books):

99.9% TBR

and here's most of my bookshelf overflow:
user posted image
100% TBR

and the bookshelf itself (is pictured below, I went back for a better picture)

mostly double-stacked & 80% TBR

both images are clickable links to larger versions, thanks ImageShack :)

callista83 - July 7, 2007 01:59 PM (GMT)
I don't have all my TBR books in one spot. They are on my bookshelf in and amongst the rest of my books. However I don't have nearly as much as you all. I don't use Bookcrossing and I don't buy books unless I plan on reareading them many times. So most of mine are nonfiction.

I do have a list of books recommended by others (mostly on blogs) that I want to read (probably from library) which has over 100.

caseyw - July 7, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)
Mine are stored in my two upstairs bedrooms. If I get everything done today that I need to, I'll pull them out of their bags and off the shelves and take pictures.

I'm envious of your book shelves.

SimplyCee - July 7, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
Wow. I'm big on library books so I go, read, take them back and get more. My BC TBR pile is usually no more than 5 books or so. I usually register the book after I read it. I wish I had a stack of books ot choose from.

EllyMae58 - July 7, 2007 04:22 PM (GMT)
I wasn't going to do this, but after seeing freelunch's pictures, I don't feel so bad!!
(ETA: Don't mind the date on the photos, I just took these this morning.)

This is the big section of TBRs. The shelving with the glass door are my PC books; there are some TBRs in there, but I don't really count them since I am keeping all those books and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The middle section is all trade paperbacks: chick lit, fiction, etc. The big shelf on the right (egads!) is all teen books. I seriously have an addiction to those!
user posted image

This little shelf sits right next to the big teen shelf. This is where I keep my hardcover TBRs (not counting hardcover teen books, they are on the top shelf of the teen section), which are the ones on the first two shelves standing upright. The other piles are AVLs, or books that have been offered in VBBs, or books I need to get mailed out. The doors on this shelf are kept closed, that is why I hide those other books in there. LOL
user posted image

And last but not least, my mass market paperbacks, obviously! :)
user posted image

But that's it. No more hidden books in the closet. I got them all out in the open on these new shelves, so I can always see exactly what I have. Has it made me cut down on what I buy? Not really.

caseyw - July 8, 2007 01:11 AM (GMT)
Okay after taking these, I really shouldn't be swapping. I have way too many books.

The first three pics are what I have in my bedroom.

The front door opens to the foyer and if you look left as you are coming in, you see that wall with the shelves (they flank the fireplace). When we looked at this house, Tom walked ahead of me, I was looking in the closet and he said "Well, that's settled then, we'll be signing on this one" *laugh* I walked in and thought I had died and went to heaven. I absolutely love those built-in bookshelves. Love them. Love them! There's something to be said about 70s houses - they believed in cabinets and storage space!

Mine was too until I got rid of a bunch of books on PBS and traded some here and did a few swaps. Mine is still around 200? I'm not sure. That's peanuts compared to some people though. But that's my own comfort level. If I had books in bags and boxes and stacked on walls, I'd go crazy. I couldn't handle it.

To everyone, thanks for sharing so far! I always feel better about how much I have to read when we do this thread *laugh* ;) Nah, I secretly like seeing these big piles of books!

candieb - July 8, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
Well, I found shelf clips yesterday at Lowe's and Tom helped me rearrange a few things on my shelves and get the MMP straightened out. I like it SO much better now! Those in the lower left are books that are bookcrossing books registered by others that I want to try to move out of here by the end of the year or so or some that I've had for forever that I want to decide on what to do with them. And see! I gained 3/4 of a shelf! Hehehe...

So much neater. I hate when my books get all messy. I wish DH would straighten his side up though!

Cee, I don't think I like you anymore.

 :j/k:

Oooh, fun. I'm going to borrow a camera from work tomorrow and get some shots.

Tribefan - July 8, 2007 11:24 PM (GMT)
Too make others feel better about their own TBR Mountains I will take up dated picks of my 7 bookshelves and post them tomorrow sometime...

karendawn - July 9, 2007 02:46 PM (GMT)
I've been working really hard to get my TBR stack to a manageable level. I'm at right over 200, so I'm happy about that. Of course, that's 200 fiction books - I haven't counted my dissertation books!

Speaking of, here they are. This shelf is full of books for my dissertation - most still needing to be read:

user posted image

And here's another bookcase with the top two shelves also containing the dissertation books. The bottom shelf contains my hardback/trade paperback TBR books (though there are three hardbacks sitting in my closet):

user posted image

And this shelf contains my MMP TBR books - stacked three deep (the very back stack are the Discworld books - I've read a few but most are still TBR):

user posted image

And then here's my Marion Zimmer Bradley collection (all PC), the MMPs stacked two deep, with about half TBR:

user posted image

And finally my PC bookcase, with about 40 or so books still TBR:

user posted image

I've got a list of all my TBR books, both BC books and PC books: TBR Stack

blackteiwaz - July 10, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
All your bookshelves look so nice and tidy. Our library is a mess, but the pictures came out awful, I need lots of daylight to get a decent picture with my camera.
The TBRs in my room can be seen, a bit out of focus though...
I'm aiming to read all the books on the lower shelf, the others I keep for reference mostly, they are from my PC, but I haven't registered any of them.
Will see if I can get a picture of the rest of the books one of this days, if its sunny

freelunch - July 10, 2007 03:04 AM (GMT)
all these clear bookshelf shots are putting mine to shame so I tried to get a better one than the two half-shelf shots I posted above.

the result isn't as good as I hoped, but since I went to the trouble of moving furniture I'm posting it anyway :P

Candie, I want to put my vote in for loving your built-in bookshelves also!

My husband bought us some lovely bookshelves when we first moved in together; I immediately filled them right up!

user posted image

The top three shelves on the center bookshelf are PC. The bottom two shelves on the left are mosly made up of reference sort of things; books on writing, homebuying/decorating/maintainance, and my sewing and crafting books. The remaining are pretty much TBR, but my availables are mixed in if they aren't going to a new home.
I also have a separate shelf in this house for my audiobooks. It's this funny little built in, probably before the house was added onto this was a window or something. (The oldest part of the house is from the late 1700s--I don't even want to show you my DVD racks that are nearly falling over because the floors are so crooked!)
user posted image
our cookbooks are on the top two shelves, and the next two are mostly audios, 90% TBR. Below that are our TV show DVD sets.

We really need Sand here

Daelith - July 10, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
Yes, seeing Sand's stash makes me feel much better about my TBRs.

candieb - July 10, 2007 08:57 PM (GMT)
Lizzi, I think that little built in niche is pretty cute! I wish my house had more cubby holes and stuff! I've got the built in bookshelves/cabinets, but I love those open cut ins like that!

And yes, where is Sand? hehehe... although I think someone beat her out last time by just a bit...

needmorezoloft - July 10, 2007 09:26 PM (GMT)
Mine are all over the place... might get some pics in this week tho.

wss4 - July 11, 2007 06:42 PM (GMT)
Okay here are mine. Sorry about the size, no clue how to make it smaller. The bookcase on the right, where you can only see part of it, does not count. Those are my availables for trading on PBS and BookMooch. The other 3 bookcases are my TBRs. I even straightened them out this weekend so they are nice and neat. :giggle: And yes, all of the shelves are double shelved.

I love it how you people are all so damn organized with your TBRs. Mine are all mixed up with availables and PC books. Then again, I have more TBRs than AVL and PC combined!

freelunch - July 12, 2007 09:53 AM (GMT)
mine are easy to keep sorted - I have no shelf space available for TBRs so once I read a book it gets released or I de-shelve a TBR to make room for it.
