You should get a lot of people to come being in California.

We're hoping to.

LOL. I have to laugh... I've only been to SF once, this past April and I absolutely LOVED it there. I said $200 per night because I didn't see any hotels that weren't around that cost that were in the downtown area. We stayed at the Sir Francis Drake (awesomest awesome hotel) and the train stopped right there. It was so great to ride it down to the wharf.
Sigh, just from that one visit, I want to move there. It's totally a place I could see myself living.

*bumping this back up, since it's kinda scrolled off the radar. Any updates on this? Also, is it still planned for August 2008 or a different month?
Amberkatze - November 4, 2007 08:24 PM (GMT)
I wish!!!
I still dream of visiting the States but I can't afford it! Also it would take me ages to decide where exactly to go ;)

I was wondering the same thing...

Not that I'm aware... Caligula was part of the BC group involved in the planning so I was hoping she'd check back in here and let us know of any new news.
99% sure that I'll already be living in that area by then so I'll definitely be there. But because of the move and all I didn't want to write to anyone and offer my time to help set this up and make sure it happens either since I know I'll need all the time I can get setting up house from one coast to the other...

I contacted her about that. And she said she had to drop out but gave me a link to a woman that is involved.

I sent a pm asking for info...
apolonia - November 19, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
Here is the response:
Hello Apolonia,
Yes, it's true that we are trying to put together an event for next
summer.
We've had conversations among the San Francisco and East Bay
(TriValley) BC
groups, as well as with Scott Sorochak, and we're confident that there
will
be an event. There is a strong possibility that we'll have to
headquarter
the event outside of SF, because of costs, but we'll work out something
that will be a good mix of convenience and accessibility to public
transportation that can take participants into SF for touristic
activities,
while allowing BCers to have a great time with good speakers and the
usual
BC fun.
From preliminary discussions, it looks like late July or early August
is
most likely, though that is absolutely not final.
Please continue to watch the forum and when we get our plans together,
they'll be posted.

yes thank you. I tried so hard to find info on the BC site with no luck. If anyone sees anything let us know. Turtle and I would sure like to go :)

Thanks Apolonia for the update!! I can't really say if I can make it or not, as I just started a new job so vacation is not as easily arranged as before. I sure hope to be able to make it out there!!
SciFisstrs - April 5, 2008 08:05 AM (GMT)
Does anyone know if they are going to have an unconvention this year in Aug? I know Appolina has found some info. I thought maybe they had an update now.
My feelings are I hope they postpone it till next year. With all the whirlwind of bad things happening to us this year I will be sure even if I have to beg, borrow or steal money to get to SF next year. Turtle and I need something fun.
I sure would like to surprise my brother :giggle:

No San Francisco Convention This Year
With great regret, I must advise that we are not going to be able to hold a convention in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2008. The bottom line is that we just weren't able to get it together to handle all of the complex logistics, especially as all of us who were interested in hosting the convention, have a lot of other obligations and demands on our time. It's too bad, as there were some great ideas and it looked like we were going to be able to bring together an all-star cast of authors and some really fun events. Perhaps we'll manage to make it happen in the future... so watch the forum for announcements.
Thanks to all those who expressed interest, and sorry if this has caused inconvenience to any of you.

That's a shame :(
Thank you for giving us the info.

Awwww.... :( Oh well... :sigh:
I promise that once I get settled in out there, I'll attempt to contact the other people who were involved and throw my services into the hat and see if I can't help get something going for sometime in the future. I'd like to see it happen too, and if I can do anything to help it to, then I will.
