Title: To all... please read
SandDanz - January 19, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
Okay, so it was mentioned in the "just in case" thread about what to do if in fact Book Relay is no more. With the latest change to the site, I'm pretty darn sure it's gone at this point, but I guess there is still a possibility something could change. I know that some people are not happy with just transitioning to Missy's BSL forum so I had offered to step up and keep an Invision Board (of course it's going to not be like the old relay forum because I can't afford to pay for the forum, but maybe down the road a bit something can be worked out... we'll see!) At any rate, I had created a new forum and was playing around with it a bit... I had Cheesy helping me make some suggestions and stuff. Anyway, she just suggested that maybe I could get MissyZ to give me the Admin rights to this forum and I could just modify it instead. I wanted to see if anyone had a problem with that? I've got a lot of ideas for the forum and want to make changes accordingly. I will be asking for input on various things as I go along and will probably recruit some helpers along the way as needed. One thing in particular we need to start thinking of is a name for the forum. Since BookRelay is most likely no more I don't want to call it "Temp BookRelay". So... feel free to post here with any complaints of my suggestion of taking control of this forum (assuming it's possible) and as far as the name goes... please PM me here instead of posting with suggestions. I'll sort through the suggestions and take what I think are the best of the bunch and let you all vote on the remainders. I might end up just posting them all, but if I get too many I might not be able to use the poll feature to let you all vote for them.
At any rate... feel free to beat me down! :P

Sounds good Sand. If you need help, yell although I admit I don't know a lot of coding.

Duh, I didn't even realize I wasn't signed in. It's the LIMB SLASHER!!!!
(ok, at least you guys already know I'm a bit off)
Kyrissaean - January 19, 2007 01:22 AM (GMT)
Just modifying this place sounds like a good thought -- most of us have already found it and everything. :P That's awfully nice of you Sand, to offer to take up the reigns. :)
I'm still not sure why BR might be totally gone, though. But then I've been more than a little spacy lately so I could have missed a lot!
TITurtle1 - January 19, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
Sounds Good Sand. :) You know you have me if you need help. ;)
mellonhead - January 19, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
Sounds ok with me. I agree that we should keep this site and modify it. I have no problems with you having admin rights. I think we should have several people with admin rights so if someone needs time off, we don't lose the board. I'm still stunned with what happened at bookrelay and we need to build in some controls for when someone's life gets nutso. Everyone's does at one time or another and it's wrong to have them bear the full weight of the forum that we all enjoy.
CdnBlueRose - January 19, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
You go, girl!! :bananadance:
HoserLauren - January 19, 2007 02:57 AM (GMT)
I agree with Cheesy. It makes more sense to modify this place than start a whole new place.

Yeah... I can give admin rights to others if I have access I believe, doesn't have to be 1 person. We'll work all that out though in time. :) I've emailed Missy to see if she can go ahead and give me rights to the site though.
Fireflywishes - January 19, 2007 03:03 AM (GMT)
Sounds great to me, thanks for stepping up Sand :)
Looks like I need to catch up on my reading to find out more about what is going on though..

I am all for using this site, only... is there any way we can get an easier to remember web address?
I'll never be able to check from any other computer but my home one if the current URL stays...'cause I'll never remember it.
And I am, of course, happy to help out.

I know forumer lets you set up free invision boards and you can choose your own url, it just has to have forumer in it, like replacementrelay.forumer.com or something. Only bad thing is that it would involve moving to a new board...

Well, thinking about it, if we're going to change the name of the forum, we probably want to change the URL anyway...as it has Temporary_bookrelay in it.
cheesygiraffe - January 19, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
But moving to a new board isn't the same as changing the name of the board is it? The address changes of course but you don't lose anything here.
HoserLauren - January 19, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)
Generally if you want an address that's easy to remember (www.newbookrelay.com as an example), you need to shell out the $$ for it.
It should be fairly simple to put this board on that url though, without getting a brand new board.
SciFisstrs - January 19, 2007 06:51 AM (GMT)
Sounds good to me Rhonda. I'm sure Zoe will have no problem with you having the rights.
You know Turtle and I are here for you when you need help. I never helped out on a website before. But I'm always willing to learn.
Do you really think that's it for relay? What a pity :(
Sunlightbub - January 19, 2007 08:51 AM (GMT)
Seems sensible to me Sandy
I agree that it is a good idea to give a couple of people admin rights, so that one person doesn't get too battered by problems though!
giz-angel - January 19, 2007 09:39 AM (GMT)
All sounds good to me! Well done the Sandy Dandy

I'm happy with whatever is decided - as long as we all end up in the same place!
butterfly-noir - January 19, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
i dont know nothing about coding, but if I can help in any way u can count on me :D
I think that changing the url for un easy one if posible is really important...I can never remeber the site out of my personal pc
freelunch - January 19, 2007 10:56 AM (GMT)
forgive me if this is out of line but...
I came to bookrelay.com for the relays - is there any chance they'll resume in some form? I understand they used to be run on the BC forums before bookrelay.com was created so could they be continued here?
I realise there is more to this community than book relays, and I think I'd like to hang out here regardless of what happens, but I'll be disappointed if I can't take part in book relays in the future.
Marlene - January 19, 2007 11:11 AM (GMT)
:bananadance: Hi freelunch. I noticed your name on the board. Glad you are posting.
I can't give you an answer to thsi question though.
There are a lot of people I assume who will be sad without the relay index.
Marlene - January 19, 2007 11:15 AM (GMT)
I see you are working on it right now.
Bookswappers huh? :D

I too miss the relays, and maybe at some point we would could work something out! I hope so anyway!

Thanks for stepping up, I was really sad about the thought of not having swaps and such :bananadance:
Marlene - January 19, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
Hey I see Missy :)
I like this site actually.
Ok It sucks that you are not able to see the latest posts of someone, only there topics, but that Is the only thing I found annoying so far.

Well it all seems good - apart from the actual relay bit obv. But then I hardly ever actually DID relays lately. But I know some people will miss that part.
SandDanz - January 19, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
I'm sure everyone has noticed the changes I've started to make... if you have any suggestions/problems, please post them here:
