Title: Audios on burned CD's
Description: How is everyone mailing them?

Kyrissaean - May 10, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
This is probably a stupid question, but how are you guys packaging home-burned audios?

I'm sitting here getting ready to mail one, and it just occurred to me that not buying the kind of blank CD's that come with jewel cases might be a problem. :duh:

I usually just buy the kind that come in a big economy-priced stack of "naked" disks. How the heck should I package these guys up?

Well, usually when I'm planning on giving the CDs to someone else I splurge and get the kind that come with jewel cases... or at least in envelopes.

Umm... I don't know. I'll have to think. Do you have any CDs you can sacrifice the jewel cases of?

If there are a number of CDs in the set, then the thickness of them makes them sturdy. I believe alsgal mailed some to me in a sandwich bag inside a bubble envelope, and they made it safe and sound.

Take a box (like a cereal box) and cut two pieces of cardboard to put in the envelope with the cds. Mark it fragile and hope for the best. ;)

You can usually buy CD sleeves in the electronics section. The kind I bought for my burned CDs are poly. They hold two CDs each and they're really not too expensive. I think the ones I bought are Fellowe's (sp?) brand. The box was yellow and black.

I too buy CDs and DVDs in bulk, and like to get a lot of my cases and such from Mindy's Recording Supplies on eBay. I actually found this seller first in person at one of the computer shows up in Salem, NH. And was pleased to find out later that they also sell their stuff on eBay since I don't make it to the computer shows as often as I'd like.

I particularly like their Slim jewel cases that hold 2 CDs (hmmm can't find them there right now... they nice and slim and hold a CD on each piece, without the separate tray part that's inside. Doesn't leave room to insert a cover, but I usually don't use them and write directly on the CD anyway.

I also like these poly envelopes which hold a CD on each side.... damn can't find those either! :angry2:

Okay so I wonder if they just discontinued those items or if it's just my Vicodin-addled brain confusing me!

I found a box of Laserline CD/DVD sleeves at a local discount store. Its like some other people have described. Fabric double-sided sleeves, comes in a variety of colors. Here's a link on Amazon

yup, those are similar to the 2nd one I was trying to find. I called em envelopes, but they're really more sleeves is what they were called. (I've just been kinda doped up today and cant remember the names of anything)
so yeah, i'll 2nd the recommend for these. :) the nice thing is they take up very little space too.

If you've got a bubble mailer then don't worry about the CDs being in anything, except maybe a plastic sandwich bag to protect from any potential moisture. I've gotten stacks of CDs in a baggie in a regular manila envelope before, no padding, and they had no trouble coming through. The thing about jewel cases is that they add to the weight; one of the cool thing about CDs is they're so light you can often send them first class, but the jewel cases would bump them up.

Yep.. and I HATE jewel cases. I don't mind like if I get them from someone else or something, but for mine at home, they make me nuts... too bulky (even the slim ones drive me crazy) I have a few huge notebook type zipper deals that hold 100s of cds.

When I mail them tho, I get those little paper envies, like cowgirl said. I get them at wal-mart, and they are pretty cheap. I mainly use them to avoid scratches.. I do have a two year old who loves to play with the shiney cds

I put them in a sndwich bag and sent in a padded mailer. I have had no problems at all

I believe that's because that is the way they were mailed to me

Well, they've made it at least twice that way, then, so something must be working!

OK, I'm glad this wasn't such a stupid question after all!

Thanks for the ideas! I'm too lazy to run to the store tonight, so I think I may try the old sandwich baggie in the well-padded envelope trick and sneak this baby in morning's mail. Last cheap-o day -- hard to resist! :P If I end up mailing a lot of these I might need to get some of those little sleevey things too -- they sound like a good idea.

I was thinking that maybe all those jewel cases would be a lot of mailing weight for nothing, but then again if they were needed for protection...
