CheriePie - May 7, 2007 10:49 PM (GMT)
Add me to the list. :)
I'm gonna look it up, but if you've got info on any RV parks there, that'd be good. I'm not sure whether or not I'll RV it or fly. I prefer RVing since you don't have to try to shove everything into little square boxes and get all your liquids in a dinky little bag to get on a damn airplane. But it might be too expensive. So I'll find an address to throw into mapquest to figure mileage, and then figure out how much gas would cost, if anyone is going to drive with me to share the cost, etc.
chronicbooker3 - May 8, 2007 12:28 AM (GMT)
I will be looking for hotels near where ever we decide to meet and local bookcrossers etc... that want to hit bargain bookstores on Sat. :bananadance: :bananadance:

karendawn - May 8, 2007 12:46 AM (GMT)
I should be able to make it unless something unexpected comes up. I'd like to stay overnight (either the Saturday or Sunday night) as it's a 4-hour drive for me and I don't relish doing that there and back in one day. So if anyone wants to split a hotel room with someone, please keep me in mind.
noumena12 - May 8, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
I'm planning on being there!
PepperVL - May 8, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Depending on a lot of different factors (price being the main one) I might be open to sharing a hotel room with someone Sunday night and going home on Monday.
I know I'd rather not take Saturday off Target... and I'd rather not take Monday off Target either, but I could probably take it off my main job and that would give me until 3 PM or so on Monday...

Why are you assuming that bookstores won't be part of what we want to do on Sunday?
chronicbooker3 - May 8, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
 oops I guess I just got ahead of myself :waves:

Yup, and I'll get Ann working on you from the other side too. *heh*
So ummm Pepper, so that we're all staying at the same place, are you gonna post hotel info and such, perhaps try to get a group rate if enough of us are going?
I did a prelim set of numbers for taking the RV, which of course would save me on hotel since RV parks are usually only $30 a night. And it'd be $240 one way in gas!! Assuming it's still at $3.00 a gallon! :whip:
I used an addy of 800 E. Main Street in Columbus to figure the mileage, which came out to 788 miles (12.5 hours) from Wilmington, MA. At 10 mpg and $3.00/gallon, it's $236.40 one way. Definitely NOT worth it unless I had a few other people traveling with me.
PepperVL - May 8, 2007 05:06 AM (GMT)
Well... I can...
If people want to give me hotel info. I'd stay for one night at most. I'm only an hour to an hour and a half away from C-bus, depending on where in C-bus we're going and if there are stupid people on 71 who decide that they should drive 2 mph faster than the cars in the slow lane and then we can't pass anyone for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and...
Sorry.
Anyway... I would so not know where to start looking for good hotel rates, but if someone finds some, I'm certainly amenable to editing my post and putting that in there.

Heh, I was those thumbscrews she was referring to since I was all over her on IM trying to make sure she goes!

:P
And yeah, if anyone who's from the area can pitch in with the names of some hotels that are central to where we'll all be meeting, that'd be ideal. So that some of us aren't on one side of the city, others on the other, etc. Then people who are driving in can find all of us hotel-ites at the bar drinking martinis!

Actually, what would be ideal is if Ri could give us hotels close to her house. :D
Then we could stay nearby... and check into group rates, etc. for those hotels and stay wherever we can get the best deal.
chronicbooker3 - May 8, 2007 06:15 AM (GMT)
Just did a quick search using the same address that Cherie did and found out that it is 397 miles from my house and 6.5 hours of driving. That is very doable :bananadance: Now to hook some people into coming with me
shaunesay - May 8, 2007 12:32 PM (GMT)
I'm still a big maybe at this point, it's a 13 hour drive for me, and I'll have to come by myself, because if the hubby goes, we'd have to spend like a week just visiting his famiy and that wasn't really what I had in mind! LOL! They're nice people, but we just did the family thing last year! And if he went, he'd feel obligated to go visit. So if I do come, it would probably have to be the skybus thingie, and I haven't flown since before 9/11. I'm still thinking about it, I'm just still a maybe. :)

Ri - May 8, 2007 02:02 PM (GMT)
There are several hotels just off 71 near the Hudson exit (near Ohio State University) or Cooke exit or Morse Rd exit. Those are all quite close to our house (a couple blocks off 71 between N. Broadway exit and Cooke exit). I'll do a little searching around while the baby is sleeping...
chronicbooker3 - May 8, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
Of course we want ya to come Karendawn but a little whippin is fun too
SandDanz - May 8, 2007 02:47 PM (GMT)
I shouldn't have a problem getting there as we usually don't have performances on Sunday, but I'll also get with CTGMOM and see what she says. :) Go ahead and add me to the list though!
ETA: IF possible I would like to come up on Saturday and stay over, but not sure how that'll work at this point since I'd need to either get a hotel room or beg Nou to let me crash on her couch or something  and also due to dance season.
morsecode - May 8, 2007 02:49 PM (GMT)
maybe... it's 5 hours or so away, but I'll talk to hubby about going out for the weekend ;)
Ri - May 8, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
Well, it looks like there are hotel rooms available at several hotels within 3-4 miles of our house that are less than $50 a night, taxes included, without any kind of group discount. If we had several rooms, this may get cheaper still. Uh, I guess that Columbus doesn't really have the $$ of a "real" vacation destination!

actually, I just remembered... we do have a dance performance on Saturday evening in Madison, IN so I'll probably have to come up Sunday morning. :(
SandDanz - May 8, 2007 03:14 PM (GMT)
I just updated the attendance list.

Planes aren't any scarier than they were before 9/11.

shaunesay - May 8, 2007 04:10 PM (GMT)
I'm talking to another close friend of mine who I corrupted into being a BC'er to see if she can swing coming with me to meet ya'll. We've got another friend up there in OH we'd probably see on Friday, then hook up with you guys who are there so far, on Saturday. IF we come, still tentative, 'kay? Trying, but still tentative!
And of course you will want to have live swaps, for the activity list, yes? :pirate:
morsecode - May 8, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
would shaunie want to play board games with morsie and mr. morsie (if we manage to get ourselves un-tenativized  )?
Ri - May 8, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
Yea! This is really shaping up into something great! I can't wait for some live swaps! I'm going to start reading some goodies now especially for them!

And, I just got approval to take that Monday off work
so now I just need to figure out hotel details
maybe a nice B&B so it could be a romantic trip for us and a fun trip for me
shaunesay - May 8, 2007 06:14 PM (GMT)
I have work approval as well... still waiting to find out on the friend, that might not be so quick lol!
And how exactly would you get me there Sand? Kansas is a bit out of your way isn't it? LOL!
noumena12 - May 8, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
Okay...I ran a hotels.com search for hotels near Ri. Since Ri lives fairly close to OSU, the good news is that it IS NOT the middle of football season!
I've put togther the list 2 ways: Pages 1-4 are sorted by distance to Ri and pages 4-8 are sorted by price.
Link to Hotel Info (PDF)
morsecode - May 8, 2007 08:27 PM (GMT)
Is the meet-up going to be at Ri's house?
I'm so confused
