Title: Hunting for Released Books

noumena12 - May 4, 2007 02:09 PM (GMT)
It's not often that I go hunting for a released book...but I wanted this one. Unfortunately, it took me 4 months to find! I'm guessing someone picked it up before I found it then I stumbled upon it the other day! Woo Hoo! :bananacheer:

That's cool Noum :bananacheer:

Awesome!
I went hunting for one last week and it was gone by the time I got there

Unfortunately there are only 3 people who wild release books in the area and I'm one of them

Way to go Nou! :bananacheer:
I've never hunted for released books because no one releases here. :erm:

How awesome! I've never had anything caught that I've left at Therapy, but your catch just goes to show you never know when it might be journaled!

We have quite a few releasers but I never seem to notice the release alerts in time.

Although I have inadvertantly come across books in the wild (other than my own) twice - one I caught on the library FOL shelf (had to pay 25 cents to rescue it) and the other was at the Southern Festival of Books released by mississippimom about an hour earlier - that one I left for someone else.

No one releases in my area, although it's not an issue. I wouldn't bother hunting for a book; if I wanted it bad enough to take the time to hunt for it, I'd just go buy it.

Like dancing-dog, I never get the release notice until too late. Usually I get them when I'm at work and it's not like I can take off and go book hunting.

I'm the ONLY one in my area... mater of fact I'm the only active BC'r in my area that I know of.

I've NEVER caught a true live wild release, and I REALLY want to.

I did once, and I was very excited. It was at the library, of all places!

There's another BCer, bookrabbit, who releases at the library in my town. (They have a bookshelf for the free books called the Friends of the Library bookshelf.) Matter of fact, that's what first prompted me to email her. She had released a book I wanted at the library. Of course, when I went to retrieve it, it was no longer there. :(

But email her I did, and now we get together from time to time to have coffee, trade books, or reserve things for one another in exchange for BookMooch points. (I turned her on to BookMooch too.) She's a great person, though unfortunately not as social and very busy with family commitments so I haven't been able to entice her into playing over here yet.

I caught one once!! :bananadance: I've hunted 6 madly, and it was the third I caught. It was such a rush to actually get a release notice -- I'd have gone after anything!

There aren't really any active BCers in my area, but 3 I hunted were released by someone who lives a little over an hour away and just happened to be in town to shop and visit a doctor. It was the third one of hers I caught, which was released at the local video rental place. :D

The other 3 were released by tourists passing through. Let's see, I've stormed into 2 restaurants, a doctor's waiting room I don't go to, the video place, a car wash 3 towns away, and a hotel lobby. :P

Cool Nou!! :)

I'm pretty spoiled here. We have a LOT of active releasers. Although it does make it a bit harder to find themed challenge books at the thrift stores.

I used to get a ton of release alerts in my email.

Then I turned them off.

They were never books I cared enough about to go look for.

I've had quite a few of my wild releases caught. There aren't alot of releasers around here, but there is atleast one. She, like me, releases at our local freestore from time to time. In fact it was one of her books that lead me to this site in the first place. Sooooo many thanks I owe her. :)
