| Top o' the March blarney to you! Yeah, I'm a few days past St. Patrick's Day, but as someone with a bit of Irish blood coursing through her veins, I'm still celebrating. And I'm also tickled three different shades of pink about the couple of exciting happenings in my normally mundane life. The first is that we are growing ever closer to the release date of The Last of the Red-Hot Vampires — April 3rd, to be exact — and my editor tells me that several stores have committed to standing firm by that sale date. This pleases me innordinately because it means the first few weeks of sales will have much more of an impact than if the book was available early. I'm sure you're wondering what this has to do with you. Well, I'm asking everyone who plans on buying a copy of LRHV to make sure they don't do so before April 3rd...with one exception! Preorders taken at either Author, Author! or Rosemary's Romance Books in Australia won't count against those ever-so-important first weeks' sales, so feel free to participate in the big goody-bag-athon at those two stores. More details about that can be had at Author, Author! and Rosemary's Romance Books. My second bit of exciting news is a website redesign. With the darker humor of the paranormals, I felt it was time to give my website a bit of a brushup...oh, who am I kidding? I just wanted to get Jim on my site. A Jim with glowy eyes! The new site has a bit of flash in order to view the spiffy animation (including Jim's glowing eyes), but I think it's worth it. You can see the result at katiemacalister.com The third bit of news concern some recent awards nominations. The Reviewers International Organization (RIO) has picked Light My Fire as one of their Award of Excellence nominees. Light My Fire and Even Vampires Get the Blues are both Reviewers' Choice nominees for Romantic Times Book magazine. And finally, my last tidbit: My editor asked if I was going to make a book video for Last of the Red-Hot Vampires. I hadn't intended to do one--I'm not really that comfortable making them, since I have a limited knowledge of software and a voice that makes me flinch whenever I hear it--but I gave in and whipped one together. You can find the video and info about LRHV at www.katiemacalister.com I hope to have some news soon about a project that will affect the dragonsepts.com site. Until then, happy March! Last of the Red-Hot Vampires is here! I know how patiently many of you have been waiting for today, and at last, it's officially publication day! I much appreciate the restraint shown by those of you who fought temptation and did not rush out to snag a copy of this book before today. It means a great deal to me, and I'm truly grateful to everyone for their support. Enough of the warm fuzzies--let's get to the good stuff! Last of the Red-Hot Vampires Physicist Portia Harding's life is grounded in facts. There's nothing that can't be explained by logic and science...until she travels with her best friend to England and accidentally summons an ethereal virtue who bequeaths her gift of weather control to Portia. Now Portia is walking around with a literal cloud over her head, and a heart stoppingly handsome maniac trying to kidnap her. But Theo North is no run-of-the-mill lunatic. He's a nephilim - the son of an angel - who needs Portia's help to change his fate. Problem is, Portia's down-to-earth attitude frustrates beings from both heavenly and hellish realms, and gets Theo turned into a vampire. But at least he has Portia to satisfy his newfound hungers...and possibly save his soul. As I mentioned in a recent Barnes and Noble interview the Dark Ones books aren't actually a series where you have to read each book in order - the books are loosely connected, sometimes with overlapping characters, sometimes not. In the case of Last of the Red-Hot Vampires , you can read this book before having read the others (although Christian does make a very brief cameo appearance). Noelle the Guardian also has a small role to play in this story, although you don't really need to know her background before reading this book. Other Dark Ones books (in order of publication date): A Girl's Guide to Vampires Sex and the Single Vampire Sex, Lies, and Vampires Even Vampires Get the Blues Bring Out Your Dead in Just One Sip anthology As I mentioned in the B&N interview, I'm trying to bring some new elements of the Otherworld into my Dark Ones books. Last of the Red-Hot Vampires introduces the Court of Divine Blood, which is pretty much the counterpart to Abaddon...but just as Abaddon isn't exactly hell, so the Court isn't quite heaven. I hope to have some information about the hierarchy of the Court available on my website soon; until then, tidbits of information about it can be found in Last of the Red-Hot Vampires. Future Projects and Other News I will be participating in a Last of the Red-Hot Vampires chat on Sunday, April 29th at 3pm Pacific (that's 5pm Central, 6pm Eastern, and 11pm Greenwich Mean Time). If you'd like to join the chat (and I'd love to talk to you!) you will need to register at my message forum. The chat room is accessed at the top of the message forum navigation bar - simply click on Flash Chat and you will be taken to the chat room. Currently, I'm hard at work on two projects: the first is a short story for an anthology which will be titled My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon (to be published by St. Martin's sometime in early 2007), and the second is a new, as yet untitled Dark Ones book. I'm just diving into the research on that, so I can't say much about it, but I will spill with details as I have them. Coming up in October is an anthology titled Ain't Myth-Behaving, which contains two novellas featuring Viking ghosts and a sexy Irish god. I just saw the cover for the book, and will post it on my website (along with info about the anthology) as soon as I get the word it's final. November is dragon month at Rancho Katie, and that means the next Aisling Grey book will be out! Holy Smokes is the fourth Aisling Grey book, and I'm very excited about it since there are some Big Happenings in it. You can check out the cover and information on my website; an excerpt will be coming soon. Contest! My editor tells me that there should be an increased number of Katie Mac cardboard book displays at bookstores and other stores. Friends and family have seen these displays, but they seem to elude me. And since I'm stuck at home writing the next book, I won't be able to tour the area in search for one of these displays. Since I'm dying to see one, I figured I'd run a contest to reward vigilant readers! Yes, it's the Hunt For a Katie Mac Display Contest! If you spot a cardboard Katie Mac book display (commonly called a "dump") in a store, send an e-mail to me at katie@katiemacalister.com with the subject line Contest Entry, and containing the following information: Your name Your e-mail address The name and city of the store where you saw the display If you want to go wild and crazy, you can include a digital photo of yourself next to the display (no bonus points will be awarded to pictures, but they will entertain me greatly). Please note that the display must be one of the cardboard displays dedicated to my books, not just books on a shelf, or books in display with other authors. I'm interested to see how many stores actually have just the Katie Mac displays. The contest ends on April 30th at midnight. Five winners will be randomly chosen from the pool of entries, and sent a signed copy of one of my books (winners will be able to pick which book, assuming I have it) and a really spiffy pearl beaded double knot Celtic heart bookmark, as pictured. www.katiemacalister.com |

Many thanks to everyone! Happy April showers (can you tell I live in the Pacific Northwest?)! A quick (but sincere) thank you to everyone who trotted out and purchased a copy of Last of the Red-Hot Vampires. The book made all the bestseller lists in style, sending everyone here at Rancho Doghair - and the folks at Penguin Putnam - into paroxysms of joy. So, a big thank you for the support from Team Katie. Chat Reminder I wanted to remind everyone that I have a chat coming up this Sunday, in which Last of the Red-Hot Vampires will be discussed. In addition to that, I'll be unveiling a very exciting piece of news during the chat. Nope, no hints ahead of time - if you want to be one of the first to hear it, you'll just have to be at the chat. We will try to log the chat for those of you who can't attend; a link and/or transcripts will be posted on the message forum shortly after the chat. Chat time: Sunday, April 29th at 3pm Pacific (5pm Central, 6pm Eastern, and 11pm Greenwich Mean Time) Where: The chat room is accessed at the top of the message forum navigation bar - simply click on Flash Chat and you will be taken to the chat room. What: A discussion of Last of the Red-Hot Vampires, the secret big news, and just about anything else that people want to talk about. Contest Update Last but not least is the Hunt For a Katie Mac Display Contest update! I received several plaintive e-mails from people who were either in countries where displays weren't carried, or who lived near stores which shockingly did not buy into a cardboard display (what were they thinking?). I have decided to modify the contest so that people who spot Last of the Red-Hot Vampires in a store can enter. So if you want to enter the contest to have a chance at winning a signed copy of one of my books (winners will be able to pick which book, assuming I have it) and spiffy pearl beaded double knot Celtic heart bookmark, send an e-mail to me at katie@katiemacalister.com with the subject line Contest Entry, and containing the following information: * Your name * Your e-mail address * The name and city of the store where you saw the books displayed The contest ends on April 30th at midnight. I hope everyone has a fabulous spring! Best, Katie www.katiemacalister.com |
