Title: Bookobsessed not loading...

Ri - April 24, 2007 08:16 PM (GMT)
Hmmm...I seem to be getting a loading error more and more frequently. Several oters have commented on this happening as well. Just wondering where the error lies and if there is anything I can do to avoid it. Thanks, gurus!

Too many people on here at once? LOL

I wondered about that too. Sometimes at work I have problems getting in, and just figured it was my work, but I could get into yahoo or something else just fine. I would just end up waiting and going in later.

I have been having the same problem more and more frequently. It is getting rather annoying.

Well it is a free site and there are quite a few of us especially in a big swap like the Fort Holder's so them's the brakes people. :P

Well, when we first migrated over here, there was some talk about possibly upgrading at some point and about maybe moving it over to Cherie's server at some point... what's the status on that?

What do we need to do to make it happen?

Reposting from NMZ's search thread, and slightly modified to apply here:

Yeah... I would say things are definitely in a transitional state here at the moment. And last I heard, there weren't any plans for InvisionFree to reenable the regular forum search.

On the one hand, InvisionFree wants to eventually transition everyone over to their new ZetaBoards software since Invision wouldn't allow them to upgrade to v2 without paying through the nose! Then there was also some talk with a few of the higher-ups about BC possibly backing us in some fashion... though I don't have specifics yet and I'd really like Rhonda to be here to go over this with me. Though hopefully with the mods, we could come to any kind of decisions needed together.

And then there's always the "my server" option, which again, is a mess, and definitely not in a good enough state to house our forum. It barely runs my own site without having to be restarted every day. I haven't had the time, nor the inclination, to fix it, and now that I'm saddled with doing this whole InvisionFree site by myself (with Sand kind of being out of commission at the moment), the fact that spring/summer is here and my social schedule is filling up, and I haven't had time for any "labors of love" that aren't otherwise netting me $$ in my pocket... well, you can see that the "my server" option isn't happening too soon unless someone wants to throw me between $300 to $500 so I can get the co-lo people to do all the upgrades it needs for me.

So for the time being, we're stuck with the lousy Google search capabilities of this forum, and the sometimes inconsistent connection problems since I think we can tend to overload it at times... but AT LEAST, now that we've got our own domain name, no matter what happens, the URL to get here won't have to change.

If you need any help I'm here for you.

If there's anything I can do to help run things, Cherie, let me know.

And while I certainly don't have a few hundred to give you, if at some point we do get together a pot to upgrade or move the server, I'll certainly throw something in.

If there is anything I can do, just tell me

Thanks for the offers. Y'all are wonderful! For now, I've taken cheesy up on her offer and upgraded her to admin so she can assist in approving new members and maybe more...

In the next week, I'll try to get an email off to the techs at my co-lo to get an idea from them what they say needs to be upgraded to get everything stable. I know I've got my own list, but I also know that what will take me a couple weeks to accomplish (because of having to look up references, instructions, etc.), they could probably accomplish in 2 hours. Thereby forcing me to find a place to move my sexygeekchick site to in the meantime, plus any sites my friend Yo is still running on it...

Because I was planning to actually start with an upgrade of the underlying OS, FreeBSD UNIX, instead of just patches, and I'm not sure how complex that kind of thing can be doing it remotely. :yuck:

So at the very least, I'll start by seeing what's involved. Maybe if I can get them to do some of the base stuff for an hours worth of their time, I can get Yo to kick in half of the $150 cost with me (since that's what the techs charge per hour). But this is all just speculation at this point. Suffice to say, I'll at least get the contact going and start putting together the list of what needs to be upgraded and figure things from there...

In the meantime, like I mentioned, it might be awhile, but I certainly wouldn't mind hearing what kind of support BC would like to offer us too, assuming we could remain an independent entity at the same time...

Thanks again, cheesy, Pepper, and Ace. And I may just call you on your offer for assistance if I need it in the future!
