Description: Starting a new thread here

I started Kay Hooper's Once A Thief today on my lunch hour.
I finished off Beneath A Blood Red Moon by Shannon Drake this weekend. Some one loaned me this and When Darkness Falls so I thought I'd give her a try again. I had read Realm of Shadows a few years ago, but I can't recall anything memorable about it. I was not overly enthused with BBRM either. The prologue alone was almost enough to make me want to ditch the book. Very melodramatic to the point of being cheesy (no offense toward our fav cheesygiraffe here :P ). As I read on, the action moved along to keep my attention but was very predictable. I was disappointed in the ending. No real explanation behind the sudden "miracle cure." I think one Amazon reviewer summed her up nicely..."When the writing skills of Danielle Steel meet a pale imitation of Anne Rice universe." I doubt I will bother with WDF. Too many other books in Mt. TBR.

I've just finished The Water's Lovely by Ruth Rendell and I'm halfway through Three to get Deadly by Janet Evanovich.
With the Stephanie Plum ones, is it me or do they get better? Cos this one seems much funnier..... I know I'm late to the game with these but I read the first one years ago and didn't think much of it, so I left them. And I've seen so many of you guys say how good they are..... so I started again with them.
Sunlightbub - January 15, 2007 10:43 PM (GMT)
I've not read the Plum books yet, but I'm sure a few people have said the first one is the least good.
I'm reading about 5 different books at the moment as Ijust don't seem to be able to settle on one, and I keep falling asleep all the time!!

Yeah, I wasn't all that impressed with One or Two either. I would have stopped there, but the third was already in the mail to me for a bookring, so I read it and thought it was a big improvement!
Since then I've switched over to listening to them as audios, and I have to say it's like they were made to be read aloud! I think Four and Eight have been my favorites overall (I've read through Nine at this point), but they're always fun to listen to!
KarinAlyssa - January 16, 2007 12:33 AM (GMT)
I started Fight Club yesterday and I should be done with it tonight but I really don't know what to think about it!

Three was one of my favorites. I love that series myself.
Candy - January 16, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
I'm reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan... it's okay so far, not something I'd usually read (it's for a book club), but it's good :)
I finished Dancing In My Nuddy Pants for Geegal's M-bag :)
fantasy221 - January 16, 2007 02:31 AM (GMT)
I finished Getting Warmer by Carol Snow that I was reading for review and I've just started Boys that Bite by Mari Mancusi while I'm waiting for some other review books to arrive.
Lizabeth86 - January 16, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
I am now reading the third and final book of Nora Robert's Three Sister Island Trilogy FACE THE FIRE. I think this one might end up being the best of the three but to soon to really know yet.

I didn't care for those too much. I listened to them, which made it ok, but I don't think I could try reading them.
EllyMae58 - January 16, 2007 03:33 AM (GMT)
I just finished Do They Wear High Heels in Heaven? which I thought was really good.
Not sure what I am going to pick up next.

Not late. I've finished 2 and yet to start 3 :P
I am reading Practical Deamonkeeping by Christopher Moore. It's quite different from my usual reading material.
ramson - January 16, 2007 04:00 AM (GMT)
I am reading White Bikini Panties. I am about 80 pages in and it feels very "this is how to write a chicklit book" to me. I am hoping it picks up abit.
Antheras - January 16, 2007 04:25 AM (GMT)
I'm working on two:
The Oxford Murders by Guillermo Martinez
The Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier
Really enjoying both of them!
giz-angel - January 16, 2007 08:06 AM (GMT)
OK thanks for the Plum comments - I'm just starting 4, then I will have a break from Evanovich and read something else....
camis - January 16, 2007 11:09 AM (GMT)
I'm reading Baggage by Emily Barr which will be heading to Morsie from a swap. Also dipping in and out of Don't Sweat The Small Stuff.
Not sure what will be next - something quick
TwiggySC1973 - January 16, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
I started The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters by Gordon Dahlquist
Set in a world vaguely reminiscent of 19th-century Europe, the novel begins with a naïve would-be socialite named Celeste Temple receiving a letter from her fiancé, who informs her that their engagement is over. With no explanation whatsoever, her beau -- an up-and-coming figure in the Foreign Ministry named Roger Bascombe -- has regretfully ended the relationship and asked Miss Temple to never contact him again. The irrepressibly inquisitive Temple, however, decides to follow Bascombe after-hours and tails him to a remote country mansion, where she sneaks into a masquerade ball and witnesses young women -- apparently under the influence of a mysterious mind control device -- being violently assaulted and sexually brutalized. After barely escaping with her life, Temple eventually joins forces with a philosophical assassin and a royal doctor to try and somehow make sense of it all…
It's a little slow right now, but I'm getting there.
alsgal - January 16, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)

I thought the book was okay too. The writing was kinda good but I really had a problem liking Lily. I thought her head grew too big for her shoulders as she got older and kept on hoping something tragic would befall her...
And I'm reading "The Windflower', the classic 80's romance. I like the epic feel, but my god the purple prose! How many times and ways can an author describe a womans pale skin and beautiful brxxxts?

I had that series on Mount TBR but I decided to cut it in one of my recent purges. Now I'm glad that I did. Thanks for reading it and posting - now I know I'm not really missing anything.

I'm on book 7 -Darkest Fear - Harlan Coben, part of the Myron Bolitar Series. I've already send some of this series on and at the moment I'm holding #4,5,6 to send along with this one. *save some postage*
I figure this way the series can be read in order by the next person.
Not to mention knowing they are heading out of here once I'm done, will help clear room. Something I really want to concentrate on in 2007.
EllyMae58 - January 17, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
Today I started reading On Fire, which is a mystery/suspense, and is probably one of the oldest books on my shelf (registered 11/02 ). When I finish it, it will be #13 for the year.

Dang Kel! You read fast. You already read #12 today? :o
Is the book good? Why did you wait 5 years to read it?

#12 I started Monday night and finished yesterday, only because I was not at work and could read all day.
No particular reason why I haven't read this 5 year old old. Just one of those that I knew I wanted to read (one of my fave romantic suspense authors) and it just kept getting pushed to the bottom of the TBR. I'm making a conscious effort to work on my oldest registered, and my hardcovers this year.

I just finished #5 Death by Darjeeling by Laura Childs. It is the first of the Tea Shop Mystery series. It was just ok. It seemed a bit formulaic. However, it is set in Charleston, SC and made me really wish I were going to the convention there!! It also (as seen in another thread) has made me crave scones and lemon muffins...
caseyw - January 17, 2007 08:27 PM (GMT)
Reading Eleven On Top by Janet Evanovich. Gotta love that Ranger!

Yes I thought they were a little fomulaic also but I love the tea shop setting.
Lemon muffins would be heavenly right now! :P
I'm reading book #8 for this year - The Merchant of Death (Pendragon) by D. J. MacHale. I have trouble finding sci fi/fantasy I like but I do like to read them once in a while. This one will be quick & easy reading since I think it's geared for grades 5-8! lol.
