Title: guest posting moderated
Description: in case anyone else is as clueless as me

Potok-fan - April 16, 2007 02:18 PM (GMT)
I recently tried to post as a guest in the Exchanges forum (the only place it's allowed), and it didn't go through. For a moment I suspected a computer glitch, but then vaguely remembered that maybe there'd been a message about moderating those posts.

This was the place I thought to look (specifically in the now-closed thread about polling whether we should allow guest posting at all)... and I couldn't find anything. Well, now I see that CheriePie has pinned an explanation at the top of the Exchanges forum. :duh:

So I just thought I'd cross-post here, in case anybody else was as blind or clueless as me about where to look for the info. [This is NOT a complaint - just laughing at myself mostly!]

there will be a short wait before your message appears here until it is approved by an admin or moderator

Yeah, we've been trying it out due to the amount of spam coming in, so far it's only been a couple a day, but I was also afraid that once the spammers realized it wasn't moderated even, that number would pick up even more! :o

So far there have been no complaints fortunately. My only complaint is that though us mods are notified of new topics attempting to be posted by Guests, we're not automatically notified of Guest replies to existing threads. :( Though as soon as a Mod enters the Exchanges forum, there is a message at the top indicating that messages are waiting in the queue... So sometimes those take a little longer before a mod wanders in and approves it. But in most cases, we're hoping the slight delay will outweigh the inconvenience of the spam.

Don't forget too, that when you post as a guest, you get a message that tells you that the message will be sent to a moderator before being posted.

I don't get that message on the top of the exchange forum. :erm: If I've made a guest post, not that I have  , I just go to the mod CP in the exchange forum and then click on the post queue. Then approve it there. I wish we could get a email sent with the new post too not just the new topic.
