Title: Newbie question
Description: help please
blackteiwaz - April 15, 2007 02:17 AM (GMT)
This is my first post, I have been lurking for a few days, I have read the FAQs, at least the ones I could find... and I think with the poor amount of books that I have available, the only thing I could take part in are old-school relays.
My question is this:
Can I offer books in spanish or would that be a relay killer? (my guess is I can't, unless the forum says I can). Just confirm this for me, please
Thanks!

Welcome to Book Obsessed!! :bananadance:
I think you could try offering a book in Spanish, but I am not sure how many folks on here can read Spanish so it may be a quite limited audience... It is good relay etiquette to offer a different book if the first one doesn't have a taker after a week or so. You could try it and then just replace it if needed.
You could also start your own all Spanish books relay! There have been lots of relays in other languages in the past. You'll never know unless you try!

:ditto2: Like Ri says, in the old version of the relay site there were several relays for foreign language books. Some were for only one language, but others were "offer a book in a different language than the one you accept" or "French, Spanish and Italian only"... etc.
You could try offering Spanish books on regular relays, but one bookcrosser in the past created a lot of bad feeling by grabbing up popular English titles and offering obscure German books which nobody wanted. So be careful and replace books, like Ri said. You're off to a good start by asking here first! :goodjob:
There ARE other places you can play here even if you only have a few books. I haven't done any "swaps" yet myself, but I'm going to try next weekend. It looks like you only need one good book for a swap!
Welcome, blackteiwaz!

Yep! You only need one good book for a swap... and people really don't mind if you offer a TBR either. It's not like we're hurting for things to read.
Some of the VBBs don't mind TBRs either. I can tell you for certain that the Science Fiction & Fantasy one does not as I'm in charge of that one... but I'm pretty sure it's okay to offer them in others too, you just mention that it's TBR when you put it in. Check with the box organizer if there's a box you're interested in.
It's a fine, long-standing tradition around here to have a large list/pile/whatever of Owed TBRs. :giggle:

Thank you all for the suggestions!
I will start carefully and will probably wait until I have more books in english to start swaping (turns out my TBR are mostly The cat who books and I know you don't like those :erm: )
I have my eye in one of those all language relays, I'm waiting for a book that is not in french though.
Thank you all for the time you spent answering my question

Don't apologize, please.

Like your avatar! Welcome to the forum, and indeed, you just need one book for swap!! It's the most fun you can have with one little book. And often the swap goes on for a week or so, and with luck you will finish reading it by then!
And since you like them so much (read your other post on BC) here you go:
:welcome: :woot:  :read: ;) :P

Thanks azuki!! :) I took me a long time to find that avatar, cute isn't it?
Sure, I like emoticons, but I am not getting much support at BC...
I guess I'll have to overuse them in here to compensate :P
