Library book sales are dangerous.
They make Mount TBR turn into Mountain Range TBR. :giggle:

Oooh, you lucky duck! :bananadance: I've only been to one library sale ever!
Needless to say, it was practically a religious experience. :P

Awwwwwwww wish we had them here. Our library doesn`t have sales like that. They sell every book soft covers $1.00 and hardcovers$2.00.They are just put on a shelf and you can go inwhenever. So they sit there all year round as its too expensive:(
Danesnboxers - April 8, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
The library in my Mom's town that is only about 20 minutes from me always has a table and shelves of books for 25 or 50 cents
caseyw - April 8, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
The Memphis libraries usually have a shelf with donated or discarded books. PB 50 cents and hb $1. Some branches hold a sale at least once a year. Sometimes more. The main branch holds one big sale in late May or early June. The last day they usually do a bag sale. Fill a bag for $5. I love those.

I love the spring and the summer cause that's when all the library sales are! The town I live in now doesn't do one but there's about 10 towns nearby that usually have a sale at some point during the season, so on the weekends I just make my rounds picking up stuff to use in the vbbs and swaps or whatever! lol
Yesterday I went to a booksale that I'm pretty sure gets the local Barnes & Noble to donate books...there were too many books there that looked brand spankin new! Plus it was half price day so I got 11 books for $9! Many of you will be seeing them in the future

Our library used to just have individual branches have a small library sale cart/shelf. But then apparently the main library thinks that the branches are not forwarding the proceeds as they should, so no more branch sales, and just one major weekend annual sale at the library instead.
However, as some of my friends/BCers said, for a lot of people they don't like traveling to downtown, to pay parking to go to the sale. And there's pnly so much a person would buy on one trip. But then with the annual sale, they have buyers from out of town coming to buy tons of books, so I guess it works out better for them.
momx3lovesbooks - April 8, 2007 06:27 PM (GMT)
My library also has 1 shelf where there are always books for sale, but it's a free will donation. I usually kick in .50 or so a book (or whatever I happen to have in my pocket at the time). I think they are left over books from the semi-annual sales but I am not sure. Most of the time they have just old romances there, but a couple weeks ago I was shocked to find "A Million Little Pieces" (in hard cover) there. I grabbed it and threw two dollars in the donation tin.
buffy25 - April 8, 2007 09:39 PM (GMT)
yeah i think it should be free will here too.I mean most of the books are bearup, from many people checking them out. Most librarys out of the city have free will but not my city.I think thats just greedy
nimrodiel - April 9, 2007 01:42 PM (GMT)
the small branches have book sale shelves year round with paperbacks $.10 or $.25/book and hardcovers $.50 per book or 3 for $1. The branch closest to me has started a sale cart with newer nicer books priced at a higher price but I've never seen anything higher than $5 (and that was a huge hardcover that was brand new looking). The main branch regularily has $1/item carts out in the lobby, and does a big sale twice a year in December and May (I think) with books priced at the same rates as a local used book store (as they are usually very new looking donations, and academic texts) that is great fun to go to on the half price day.
cowgirl-up - April 9, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
Our library has sale shelves year round and a sidewalk sale during the summer. I usually come away with about 2 boxes for less than $15 each time. I think it was 25 cents for pb and 50 cents for hc. They also have audio/visual stuff, but I've never found anything in there that I was interested in.
The Dayton, Ohio library is having a big book sale at Hara Arena the first weekend in May. My friend and I are getting a hotel room nearby the night before and I'm planning for a large number of purchases. ;)

what a bargain! Mine is $1 paperback and $2 hard cover. Except for the last day of the annual sale than it's half off. So I usually do my shopping on the last day. (and I admit I had tried to hide away books I want in the bottom of the box, hoping that it would stay there till the last day...)

Here's a site that tracks library book sales all over the US and Canada. Just click on your state/providence and it gives you a list of dates and locations. It will even email you reminders. :)

You just reminded me of a similar site I have.
But can you post this over in the Book Enabling resources thread too brat... I'll look up the similar site I have (though I don't think it emails you reminders... that's neat!) and post it there as well. :)

Posted :) I didn't even know that thread existed. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction ... Again :D

You're welcome... it makes it easier to find things in there! And now that I've effectively been reminded again, I'm a goin' to follow you over there and find that other link I had to the similar site. :)
AlterEgoZoe - April 11, 2007 12:14 AM (GMT)
My library is doing theirs the week of June 9th. The first 2 days is whatever the price is listed (ie PB=$1, HB=$2, or as marked). The third day is like 1/2 off, the 4th day is $1, and $2 bags and the last day is whatever you can grab is free.
Also I have 2 church sales I go to. St. Lukes is around the last week of July (around the 28th), and usually for PB is $1 and HB $2-3 (but last day is everything free). St. Matthews is the 1st or 2nd week in August. Usually if you find the right person they'll tell you about $1-2 for 5 books and the last day is also free.
Usually some scholarship fund for ESU students do a huge book sale, but for the last year or so, I haven't seen anything from them. (I will have to ask Student Activites or something)
I do know of 2(!) BCers/BOers that live near me. (yourotherleft :whip: turtle :whip: )  I need a book buddy.

eta: ha! nevermind! I see this link leads to booksalefinder!

That website was great. I just found 2 coming up within the next 2 weeks. I'm gonna try and hit em if I can before I go back to FL to graduate (woohoo). The library near my house usually has a big one every year. My sister loved it because I think they had the fill the bag up for a certain price too. I remember we went to it one day and we were SO excited and we got to the library AND IT WAS ON FIRE!
Ok, not literally on fire. But it had been on fire that day and the firemen, etc were there. Obviously the sale did not happen that year, and they spent a while building the library back up and getting books again. I haven't been to the sale since. I'm not even sure if they still have it.

Yeah, I realized the same thing after Brat posted it over in the Book Enabling Resources forum too. I actually like the URL you and I have better, booksalefinder.com, it's easier to remember, actually matches with the name of the site, and doesn't have all those dashes in it. :whip:

 Cee wins the prize for worst luck on this thread! Hee hee - what's worse than having to pay $2 for a book? The whole sale burning down. Ok, maybe it shouldn't be funny... but I'm laughing
SimplyCee - April 12, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
It wasn't funny at the time (though I can see how it cracks you up now, my sister and I laugh about it now too). I was so heartbroken about the sale. It wasn't "oh no what about the library!" it was "OH NO! THERE'S NO SALE!" Which is just as bad as cracking up :)

I went to my library booksale on Wednesday night. It was good, but not nearly as good as it's been in the past. The books were literally thrown this way and that way in boxes and I spent 1 1/2 hours digging through box after box trying to find hidden treasures. I didn't find many. :( I was sickened with how the books were treated. I don't think I'll go again (GASP! lol). What am I saying? Of course I'll go back, but next time I'll MAKE SURE to make time to volunteer to help set up. I almost collapsed in horror at the site.
ETA: It was also stunned to a state of silence when I realized it was a free will donation.
