Description: Question for you....

Do your public/high schools have March Break mid-March like we do?
TITurtle1 - April 2, 2007 11:36 PM (GMT)
Not really... at least not at my school... But then again, its a catholic school so *shurgs* April (Easter is a big time off for us (about 3 days plus the weekend.)
I know that colleges have 'spring break' around here for a week during March...
:)
HoserLauren - April 2, 2007 11:38 PM (GMT)
They have "spring break" don't they??
I'm pretty sure the schools in Virginia are on it right now.
cheesygiraffe - April 2, 2007 11:40 PM (GMT)
We used to have Spring Break in March now they have it mid April. Go figure because they get out last day of May.
nvangel2073 - April 2, 2007 11:42 PM (GMT)
My little brother and sister in Colorado had spreak break in March. But our kids in town have it this week.
Kyrissaean - April 2, 2007 11:45 PM (GMT)
Most of the ones around here (northern New England) have 3 one-week breaks at the end of December, mid-to-late Feb, and mid-to-late April. Actually, I know our local school system times their Feb break to be the week following the normal one in Mass., so the local kids can ski without having to wait in lift lines with all the vacationers!
That's probably a bit different than places further south though, since our school season tends to go Sept-June, and in warmer places they seem to go August-May. March would make more sense for them.
My college had spring break mid-March.

The schools around here have a spring break. The local school district was off last week. My cousin is off this week. My mom's school was off 2 weeks ago.
I went to a Catholic school and we usually had Holy Week (week before Easter) off as our spring break, unless it was pretty late in April.

The times Kyri quoted sound more like what I recall. I don't have kids so I don't know for sure, but they sound like what I'm used to here in New England.
Now once I move to Cali, it'll be way different! My sister's a teacher there and they go year round but have track breaks like once a month. Weird!!

When I was teaching I would have MUCH rathered to have year round school!! I was always trying to convince my principal to make the switch. From an educational point of view, it makes so much more sense!

They're Spring breaking this week around here.
chambejd - April 3, 2007 12:16 AM (GMT)
I went to public high school in Georgia and our spring break was the first week in April.
caseyw - April 3, 2007 12:22 AM (GMT)
A friend of mine is a teacher here and she was out for spring break in mid March.
lizziwhizz - April 3, 2007 12:25 AM (GMT)
here in maine public schools have february break and april break (one week each). february was the second week of the month and april is the third. the colleges have march break except for a couple of the "teachers" colleges which have breaks to match the public schools.
and as crazy as teaching is, i relish the summers off! i feel bad for a lot of the kids though, who just don't have anything to do (read: don't have parents who care), for whom school in the summer would probably be a treat and keep them out of trouble.
noumena12 - April 3, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
My nephew is on spring break now. It really varies by district as to when Spring Break occurs. I always had a spring break when I was growing up. However, it does always move around and is seemingly dependent on when Easter occurs.
PepperVL - April 3, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
My experience is that you can ask two people when they/their kids have spring break, and unless they're going to the same school district, it'll be different weeks.
But yes, there is a spring break, usually.
meshe - April 3, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
I'm out on Spring Break now. Our system starts in August. We have a week off (Fall Break) in October. A week off for Thanksgiving in November. Two weeks off in December for Christmas. A week off in February for Mid-Winter Break. And finally a week off in April for Spring Break. Last day of school is June 1st. I love all the little breaks plus the 8 or 9 weeks during the summer.
wss4 - April 3, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
We are on spring break this week. The kids (and I ) will go back to school next Monday.
SciFisstrs - April 3, 2007 05:51 AM (GMT)
I think the public schools around here are on their break now. They were off last week, this week, and I'm not sure but I think they go back after Easter. I hope they do these kids next door to me are driving me nuts. They're animals
Breeze - April 3, 2007 10:31 AM (GMT)
Thanks for all the info! I suspected that it varied by school board, but here in Ontario its the same week all around, so I wanted to be sure.
This will further strengthen my case that Vegas won't be 'all crazy' with other March Break-ers next year around wedding time! ;)
meshe - April 3, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
I'm certainly not an expert, but I don't think Vegas is a Spring Break destination in the US. Seems to me most college and high school kids want to go to a beach and more families think Disney. Others may know more than I do, but I think that's one thing you needn't worry about.
cowgirl-up - April 3, 2007 01:00 PM (GMT)
Most of the public school districts near me are on spring break right now and then some will be next week. It usually falls the week before/after Easter so it's not always the same week every year.
caligula03 - April 3, 2007 04:43 PM (GMT)
Yes but when the break is varies from school to school.

Vegas isn't a Spring break destination but nearby Lake Havassu is.
Breeni - April 3, 2007 04:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah, the Florida coast is the destination around here.
Breeze - April 5, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
Oh I wasn't worried about the kids! I have seen some families when I was there, but I know its not a kid-hotspot. I was more thinking about other teachers.... ;)
So it looks like we all agree....Vagas in March 2008! Now to book a venue....
mysterious - April 6, 2007 11:27 AM (GMT)
Starting our break next week
ladyjanet - April 6, 2007 02:10 PM (GMT)
Our college was on break around St. Pat's in March. The public schools here were out anywhere from mid march to last week. We have two school districts here and they don't take the same time off. It means that there are kids everywhere for about a month if you want to go out for lunch.
